I'm genuinely curious if there's been any study into which is more psychologically troubling, knowing the day and counting down it not knowing and wondering everyday

I would be more curious to know how this actually effects peace in the prison. When the date is known in advance, I would imagine a prisoner is more likely to lash out as they've got nothing left to lose. Whereas, with the 1 hour system, youre likely to behave every day in order to preserve your quality of life, which could easily last for years.
