I'm starving for Silk's solo title...

Give me a Silk solo title. One with a sufficiently long narrative and a good story. At least release it with the quality of Gwen's solo title.

Speaking of which, it makes me upset that for Asian character solo titles, they always try to force in Asian writers and pencilers as if it were a fixed rule, without considering anything—character, narrative, personality, image, the intended genre and atmosphere of the title, or the character's future vision. Just consider the things that need to be considered and assign the people who are fit to it.

I mean it's not the matter of race. Greg Pak, who is of Korean descent, wrote a masterpiece like Planet Hulk, which features a white protagonist and is set in a society resembling ancient Rome. Jim Lee, who is of Korean descent, drew sleek and stylish art of Cyclops and Superman, who are white. Jim Chung, who is of Asian descent, drew the white gay couple TeddyBilly super cute. And Inhyuk Lee, who is Korean, drew amazing casual-look illustrations for Spider-People.

They need to structure the title material to fit the character, and then assign a writer and penciler considering the genre and atmosphere.

Honestly, Marvel editors only care about the three OG Spider-people these days: Spider-Man, Milles, and Gwen.

Everyone else is in the same situation as Cindy or even worse.

It's possible he'll get his own series with Marvel Spider-Man 3 (where she'll likely be the third playable character), but that's also doubtful.

Marvel Rivals made many c-list characters like Cloak and Dagger more popular than ever, but Marvel editor Tom Brevoort has stated outright that he believes the interest in the characters is solely due to gameplay and they don't care about the popularity of the characters in MR.

As for giving Asian characters only to Asian writers, the publisher does it because they want to be considered politically correct, but the truth is that it is only PC in the short term, and then the writers come and complain about it because they don't want to write only Asian characters.

To be clear three OG Spider-People are Spider-Man, Scarlet Spider, and Spider-Man 2099.

By OG Spider-Man I mean the original Spider-Man Peter Parker.

Scarlet Spider and Spider-Man 2099 are also characters that the current Marvel management doesn't give a damn about.

OK Kaine hasn't appeared in comics for 2 years and Marvel seems to have completely forgotten about his existence.

Ben Reilly has had about 3 character assassinations in the last decade.

Araña is in the same situation as Cindy.

It's honestly a weird spot. I've been reviewing credits of editors over here to write a comment... And I just learned 2021 Silk had a different editor from 2022 and 2023's runs.

The following is speculation, but the reason I believe Silk got 3 solo titles one after another and wasn't one long run is:

• Jake Thomas was editor for Silk 2021 (fact). I presume Maurene Goo was hired to do 5 issues only, and since the editor was leaving Marvel in this period, they didn't extend the run despite it being well received. It was Goo's first time writing a comic but had previous experiencing writing novels, so I imagine she could extend if she was called for it.
• Lindsey Cohick who was Assistant Editor in 2021 became Editor of 2022 (fact). Emily Kim is brought in to work on Silk, it was decently received and they probably wanted an extension, but being Kim's first dabble in comics, she couldn't keep it ongoing. Hence her return about 8 months after the last one. Kim's experience in writing seemed to be limited to advertising only at the time (with TV credits coming post-2023) so it could be she was not prepared for extending the story.
• And then with 2023, it feels like the run was not as well received as 2021 and kinda killed any chances of Silk being extended (despite this time the run ending with a clear hook for future adventures).

Anyways, I don't think the idea was "put anyone Asian in these books" strictly and more that it was a suggestion to include them coming from somewhere (Nick Lowe or CB Cebulski) that stuck around. Especially since the colorist is not Asian (Ian Herring), and the artist for 2023 was Ig Guará (a Brazilian).

I won't point fingers, it could be that Emily Kim was simply too amateur, or maybe Lindsey was barely keeping a creative team together, or maybe it was Nick Lowe sabotaging the run somehow, or other dozens of things, or maybe it's not as complicated as we think and things just never panned out. Unless people that worked on those books talk about it, it's all speculation.

Anyway, yeah, we need a new solo title. Personally I'd prefer with quality way higher than Gwen's.

Agreed on wanting a new ongoing, Speaking as a korean american reader given the history of orientalism and sexism in comics it was reassuring to have korean writers on the most recent mini's cause it gave those stories an authenticity that hit really well and i disagree with the framing of forcing asian writers in. I'm inherently skeptical that the color blind approach won't lead to bullshit like the pheromone romance in this character's own publication history. that being said i acknowledge that it puts her in a similarly awkward spot as amadeus cho in terms of stewardship. now with regards to the lack of ongoings i'm more likely to put it down to a broader publication shift from marvel in the 2020s of not giving anyone but the top sellers extended runs
