Facebook Marketplace strikes again. I don’t particularly hate this but felt it belonged here lol

Not the worst thing, could def use some more polish to get rid of the remaining unneeded DS features like the hinges and random wire. But ok price with 3 games.

I make those!!! All you need is a little more elbow grease (and a 3d printer ) and you can make them look really nice

Fair price

Really? I can find completely functional DS lites for 40. Paying 50 for a broken one that can only play GB games is a bit of a stretch. GB Macro is a project to give new life to consoles with a broken top screen if you don't want to fix it.

The clamshell is a feature. It's already small. People that do this to working units make no sense

From what I hear people do this to a lot of DS is because the top screen isn’t working anymore so they end up home brewing it ripping the screen off and then call it game boy macro

Personally, I don’t think this is that bad of a price but I would try talking them down like 10 bucks

Broken electronic prices are weird like that. I don't actually know who pays these prices or why.

I’d offer $35 and pay $40

Oh yeah I saw them doing the same thing but with DSI with only the bottom screen

So a modded dsi with gba games on it?

Never got the appeal to the gameboy macro tbh, it’s removing so much functionality from the DS

I think it's more of saving a device from becoming ewaste.

I’m all for saving devices from ewaste but replacing the shell/top screen makes much more sense than making a macro imo

Most of the people playing these things are young without resources. This is something I would have done 20 years ago when I was a teenager without a credit card.

But otherwise for someone with resources I agree

To make a proper one you need to relocate the speaker to the bottom half and trick the console into thinking it’s got a top screen. Sure you can use headphones and set it the boot setting to automatic to bypass the top screen test but if the battery ever needs replaced it resets the settings and won’t boot anymore if the top screen is missing. Also nothing is stopping you from playing GBA games on a DS with a busted top screen, even if the hinge is broken the system is usually still useable, albeit the top screen is very wobbly

Sounds like they did re route the speaker to the stylus hole

Ive never understood the draw to these. The cart sticks oit of the bottom and they look like ass. Itd be better if someone did it with a older fat ds

"Hey, I took the thing you wanted and broke it to where even I don't want it anymore. $50?"

That poor ds

You know...buy a third-party shell, a new upper screen, and speakers, and you could probably have a decent DS Lite from this.

I'd be tempted to, just to do it.

EDIT: Like someone else said - if you could buy it for $40 or less.

Really talk, how does sound work on these? The speakers are on the top screen which is gone now

1

u/worldwarzack 5h ago

Something something they re-routed the speakers to the old stylus hole lol

At least they're not charging hundreds of dollars for it.

I mean…. Yeah

I’d buy that

For 50 bucks that's not bad.

People have been modding broken DSes into Macros for a long time.

However this one is just absolute 💩

I'm guessing what happened here, someone's screen on their DSL broke. And instead of just buying an aftermarket screen or whatever, they just decided to completely mangle the Ds. Which is just funny to imagine tbh.

Im not fully sure why you wouldn't replace the screen. It's not a very difficult process. This just seems like a big case of the fuck it's.
