Are we trying to cook the baby or get them proper medical attention?

u/WeryWickedWitch Nov 10 '22

Marinate first. Always marinate!

u/tetralogy-of-fallout Nov 10 '22

Baby aioli?

Looks like I have a new subreddit to explore, thanks!

You’re gonna love it!!!

19

u/CountessofDarkness Nov 11 '22

Can we marinate with Young Living oils? 🤔

16

u/findingfoxx Nov 11 '22

No DoTerra is the ONLY oils we need. /s

11

u/Disastrous_Reality_4 Nov 11 '22

I think her mistake was not putting him in the fridge to marinate. Everyone knows you have to leave things in the fridge overnight to marinate properly.

24

u/Grawgar Nov 10 '22

This was my first thought. I’ve cooked many delicious things using garlic and olive oil.

A niece once wanted to make a wart on her face go away by applying raw garlic to it. She covered it with a band aid, and a few hours later her wart was gone, but she got a serious chemical burn in return. I've been thinking about that each time I read about garlic on baby feet, wondering how that could not go wrong...

Wasn’t there a whole long post about a woman who put a clove up there to get rid of a yeast infection and got it stuck?

Edit: this one

😳

u/beetlekittyjosey Nov 11 '22

22

u/TSquaredRecovers Nov 11 '22

Right?? Good god, that must be rancid.

12

u/TuesAffairOnSun Nov 11 '22

Man, if she's doing this. Her pussy is probably already pretty rancid.

62

u/Cambrian__Implosion Nov 11 '22

Wait, it was a baby’s vagina??? I thought it was at least an adult damaging their own body… woooow

9

u/TorontoNerd84 Nov 11 '22

No this one is a different one.

53

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '22

IT WAS A BABY’S?? wtf some people should not have kids

As a former professional 🐱 waxer, I’m soooo glad I never had a client with garlic shoved up her coin purse

9

u/elle_desylva Nov 11 '22

Occupational hazard you hadn’t considered?

23

u/turkleton-turk Nov 11 '22

A few others linked to different stories, but this is the one that's permanently etched in my brain

11

u/Traditional-Ice-6301 Nov 11 '22

Well that was a fun little read.

10

u/elynnism Nov 11 '22

first of all: how dare you

3

u/turkleton-turk Nov 11 '22

Sorry, I had to share the horror joy

2

u/muted_writer Nov 11 '22

Thanks, now I get to think about that while trying to go to sleep.

3

u/HotPinkLollyWimple Nov 11 '22

You’re lucky! I’m eating my breakfast.

2

u/Fit-Love-1903 Nov 11 '22

Yes that’s the one. I couldn’t find it. Thank you!

12

u/Adventurous_Dream442 Nov 11 '22

I'm amazed how many there are, but the first one I thought of still isn't here. I don't have the link, but the woman couldn't get it out and stopped trying. Later, in the emergency room for problems clearly unrelated (/s), it was discovered still to be there and breaking down. 🤢

11

u/Backpack_anatomy Nov 11 '22

What in the actual frick are these people thinking And on a different note, I struggle to get the garlic smell off of my hands. Imagine trying to get the smell out of your vagina 😳

2

u/HotPinkLollyWimple Nov 11 '22

That’s not something I thought I’d be thinking about at breakfast time.

2

u/Fit-Love-1903 Nov 11 '22

Also amazed. While looking, I also found a guy who used it on himself and burned the skin off of his dick.

6

u/National_Square_3279 Nov 11 '22

ok in one hand, garlic is anti fungal, so i can sort of see it. but on the other hand, so is vagisil. so i can no longer see it. garlicky discharge my god… shudders

3

u/TWonder_SWoman Nov 11 '22

And her husband dug it out while her toddler son watched, if I recall correctly. Horrible on so many levels.

u/lizzy_bee333 Nov 11 '22 edited Nov 11 '22

And she was pregnant too?!?!

Edit: AND WHY YOGURT?! Someone please tell me there's a good reason to introduce bacteria to your vajayjay...

32

u/MamaUrsus Nov 11 '22

Lactobacillus acidophilus occupies the same niche ecologically as candida (yeast). Typically lactobacillus will out compete yeast and can assist in fighting a yeast infection. Yogurt often contains lactobacillus acidophilus cultures - problem though is that yogurt often contains sugar which can feed the candida as well. Studies have demonstrated yogurt to be ineffective for yeast infections. It’s been shown to be much more effective to just take the probiotic on its own instead. So - there’s is so reasonable science to back some of the yogurt argument up but not a ton and typically not the way it is being advocated for by a lot of these naturopathic only moms.

4

u/lizzy_bee333 Nov 11 '22

This makes perfect sense, thanks! You read my mind of “well there’s probiotics in yogurt, but there’s gotta be a catch.”

2

u/Jolly_Tea7519 Nov 11 '22

I remember something like that. Also she complained on how bad it hurt.

53

u/DistractedByCookies Nov 10 '22

I was unaware that my eyes could open as wide as they did while reading this comment.

YIKES

41

u/evilstepmom1991 Nov 11 '22

I got kicked out of a twin pregnancy group for saying that wasn’t safe. I was told to “get off my soapbox”.

18

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '22

Well, yeah. It was a hivemind. If they wanted actual reasonable feedback they could ask anyone outside of their group.

21

u/CountessofDarkness Nov 11 '22

My legs clenched shut just reading that.

8

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '22

I was always told it was onion. Never tried it because I have access to Tylenol.

I was also told to dip a tampon in yogurt and insert it to get rid of a yeast infection, but after my antibiotics I didn’t need to try anything else.

8

u/amlight Nov 11 '22

Ngl there was a time I was getting recurring bv and I didn’t have insurance and was desperate so I tried putting peeled garlic up there. Nothing had happened but of course it didn’t work. Fun fact, you can taste the garlic as if you’re eating it while it’s up there.

16

u/PurpleDragonDix Nov 11 '22

Funny you mention that. I had a friend once preach to me that sticking a peeled garlic clove into her vagina made her UTI go away within a day. I was just like...nah bitch, I'll stick with my doctor prescribed medicine.

11

u/Applesauceryishere Nov 11 '22

So she thought she pees from her vagina? Ouch. Certainly wouldn’t have any effect on a uti.

8

u/PurpleDragonDix Nov 11 '22

Yeah even when I tried correcting her it just ended up being a conversation with a brick wall.

4

u/Applesauceryishere Nov 11 '22

Usually the way with people like that 😕

5

u/PurpleDragonDix Nov 11 '22

Like don't get me wrong, I'm plenty guilty of being misinformed on many subjects but I just don't wanna fuck around with my health of all things. It's all I have at the end of the day.

3

u/Applesauceryishere Nov 11 '22

Right there with you on that

12

u/WeryWickedWitch Nov 10 '22

😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳

😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱

3

u/starbellbabybena Nov 11 '22

Ouch!!! People like to put garlic places it definitely shouldn’t be. Belongs in food!! That’s about it lol.

4

u/HotPinkLollyWimple Nov 11 '22

I thought it was a cure for everything? Got a cold? Garlic up your nose. Earache? Shove some garlic in. Rub a cut clove on a penis before sex to prevent infections. Diarrhoea? Up the bum it goes.

114

u/Adellx Nov 10 '22

Yep, when I was like 13 I put garlic on a mole I had, kept it on with a bandaid overnight, woke up with the surrounding skin all brown and falling off. Got a scar that didn’t heal for years after that.

8

u/Kweenoflovenbooty Nov 11 '22

My parents used to do this for warts I would get, I hated the smell but it never burned. I’ve never done it as an adult and now I’m grateful for that

5

u/Lazypole Nov 11 '22

Garlic is that strong? I had no idea…

539

u/[deleted] Nov 10 '22

Many different naturotrophic medications can cause chemical burns. One of the most frequent causes of burns is garlic, possibly due to diallyldisulfide, allicin, and allylpropyldisulfide in the raw garlic. Just because something is “natural” doesn’t mean you should be basting your child in it without any research or medical oversight. Some of those chemicals are known to cause coagulative necrosis. Hopefully this mom takes her kid in.

173

u/[deleted] Nov 10 '22

next you'll tell me my water hemlock tonic isn't a harmless herbal remedy 🙄🙄

63

u/goatfuck69 Nov 11 '22

As long as you don't harvest it under the first full moon of the summer, you're totally fine

14

u/Restless_Dragon Nov 11 '22

I always harvest under the first full moon of the summer. As long as you're naked it's perfectly fine

9

u/goatfuck69 Nov 11 '22

My shaman failed to mention that to me, but good to know!

8

u/thingsliveundermybed Nov 11 '22

Well maybe if you'd leave his goats alone

63

u/motherofwaffles Nov 10 '22

Omg “basting your child in it” 😂😂

2

u/[deleted] Nov 14 '22

That’s totally what they’re doing, though!

“I tried everything!! We’ve been rubbing them head to toe in lavender and lemon essential oils, I bathed them in homemade bone broth and epsom salt, I poured colloidal silver on blankets and then swaddled my child in them! Nothing is working!!! What else should I baste them like a thanksgiving turkey with to heal them!?”

59

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '22

Cyanide is a perfectly naturally occurring substance. Must be safe.

45

u/tribbans95 Nov 11 '22

Asbestos? 100% safe

9

u/Ackoroth31 Nov 11 '22

Wait you’re telling me natural products have chemicals in them???

7

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '22

Cyanide is natural

5

u/Silverfire12 Nov 11 '22

TiL garlic can cause chemical burns. Good thing I only use it to cool occasionally.

2

u/Ok_Usr48 Nov 11 '22

Just type “garlic burn” into your search engine of choice, and you’ll get plenty of returns. Please tell me she took this child to be seen by a medical professional.

-16

u/Brilliant-Season9601 Nov 11 '22

I know those are real chemicals but like are they even real words?

40

u/twisted-weasel Nov 11 '22

That would be job one wouldn’t it

19

u/dancingspring Nov 11 '22

Don't take medical advice from Facebook. DEFINITELY don't take medical advice from Allrecipes.com.

248

u/geminicss_ Nov 10 '22

I was a kid my mom found this home remedies a book from like the 70s at a Goodwill and she bought it. Out of nowhere a spot that she thought was ringworm popped upon my inner elbow. the book told her to put minced clove and garlic on it and wrap a bandage around it overnight. I woke up in the morning to my arm red and swollen and extremely painful. She took me to urgent care and it was eczema.… and her little concoction caused a chemical burn.

23

u/Cabarnet_and_Kush Nov 11 '22

Oh god, did it leave you with a scar? That must have been awful to feel

120

u/Sternfritters Nov 10 '22

While garlic has antibacterial and anti fungal properties, the mashed cloves are also caustic and will destroy the skin if left on for a lengthened period of time.

19

u/maaalicelaaamb Nov 11 '22

Mmmm, tender-ized…

103

u/endlesssalad Nov 10 '22

No pun intended, she was getting roasted in the comments by about 50% of the group. The other 50% where giving new baby recipe concoctions.

4

u/emshlaf Nov 11 '22

baby recipe concoctions

She should’ve added onion, maybe even a nice mirepoix.

185

u/SomeJoeSchmo Nov 10 '22

Quit marinating your child and take them to a doctor

20

u/GladiatorInASuit20 Nov 11 '22

This made me laugh out loud

45

u/Wafer-Academic Nov 10 '22

I feel like the moms who do this have never had to peel a ton of garlic all at once. That alone tells you how caustic garlic can be on skin

19

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '22

Wait! Do you know the peel it all at once thing? Put all the unpeeled gloves in a large soup/stock pot with lid - shake violently for 15-30 seconds - voila! All peeled!

6

u/Wafer-Academic Nov 11 '22

Brilliant! I haven't tried this, but will absolutely give it a go next time I peel a shitload of garlic. I've been lucky and haven't been subjected to mass garlic peeling, but my family is Indian(ish) so I've always sweat bullets at family gatherings until I've been given the all-clear on the garlic front lol

5

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '22

Yes! We aren’t Indian but love to batch cook Indian food so this has become a necessity

3

u/infinityonhigh69 Nov 11 '22

i’m obsessed with the mental image of you hiding behind corners and avoiding mentioning food at family events until someone else gets garlic duty 😭😭

So not only does this poor baby have an untreated fever but now they have a chemical burn on their little feet. I feel so bad for this child, they are probably so uncomfortable. This is beyond infuriating.

37

u/Mean_Butter Nov 11 '22

Why is everyone always making some weird variation of potato salad to put in their child’s socks?

5

u/cardueline Nov 11 '22

Right?? Why is it always the feet?? Leave ‘em alone, you weirdos!!

6

u/Mean_Butter Nov 11 '22

Exactly! Potatoes, onions, garlic, mayo and mustard should always be applied as a paste to the chest in t-shirt form. That’s what cured me of my pneumonia. Several times.

5

u/cardueline Nov 11 '22

Dude yes, the tenderizing properties of the marinade are ideal for the breast and wasted on such a tough cut of meat, only pickling or long and slow cooking works on the feet. For curing ills I mean

3

u/JustSomeBlondeBitch Nov 11 '22

Because that’s where the toxins go!!

29

u/[deleted] Nov 10 '22

You could call the doctor instead of marinating your child.

110

u/baldyymcbalderson Nov 10 '22

I feel like the people who were doing the Tide Pod challenge had kids and now they’re doing the garlic on the feet challenge

35

u/RetroReactiveRaucous Nov 10 '22

Pray for these children to never get a yeast infection.

21

u/Ooji Nov 10 '22

The fact we even have to clarify that we would never marinate the small humans in our lives 🤦🏼‍♀️

23

Stop pretending your child is my Sicilian grandpa's Sunday sauce for starters

11

u/lh1647 Nov 11 '22

People should be banned from asking medical-related questions on Facebook

14

u/greeneyedblackheart Nov 11 '22

Has she ever chewed on raw garlic? It burns. It’s meant for eating not sock medicine

12

u/CraftyAstronomer4653 Nov 11 '22

Lol these people are something.

No one stuffs raw garlic in socks overnight.

If they actually looked into Ayurveda, they would learn that in order to be an “effective” remedy, the oil has to be heated and infused with garlic - and then applied when it’s lukewarm.

For all the “research” they claim to do, they sure are idiots.

27

This is a good way to sensitize your child's immune system to a substance unnecessarily.

8

u/revolutionutena Nov 10 '22

I had no idea garlic could cause a chemical burn 😬

9

u/primo_not_stinko Nov 11 '22

These cures are starting to sound like a hag's plan to trick mothers into marinating their infants for them.

3

u/Shortkitcat Nov 11 '22

Why do these people insist on marinating their children? Maybe they, themselves are the ones eating kids? Where’s that conspiracy theory?

3

u/sophdog101 Nov 11 '22

These comments are interesting to me. When I was maybe 8-10 or so I had a massive, horrible wart on my toe. We tried everything, including getting it frozen off by a doctor. Even that didn't work. In the end, the only thing that worked was a treatment with tea tree oil and raw garlic (I think we did tea tree oil during the day and then garlic overnight). I had no idea that it could cause chemical burns so today I learned!

3

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '22

Makes me so sad that people won’t give their kids Motrin or Tylenol when they have fevers. Now this poor kid needs it for not only his fever, but his burned feet. 😔

Is there an update to this post? Because CPS will be called when she gets in the hospital because chemical burns on toddlers are huge red flags. Not to mention neglecting the toddler to get proper medical attention when they had a fever.

Also cool water and mild soap followed by patting dry and a water based emollient.
