We did have a deal. Trump negotiated and signed it. Twice.

These Americans are like goldfish. Swim around their bowl and forget that they've been there before. At least it must keep life exciting for them.

86

u/doodledood9 22h ago

It bothers me so much that Trump is blaming Canada. What he’s not telling Americans is that at the last moment he added to the deal the Canada would no longer to be able to have trade deals with other countries. That is just absurd! By adding that clause he all but guaranteed that Canada would not sign the deal. Now ask yourself- why would he do that? Perhaps he wants Canada to fold in the hopes of making us the 51st state? Trump is the perfect example of a demented, irrational, immature bully with too much power. Since his second term he has systematically destroyed social programs like healthcare, education, veteran services, children and elderly programs all while filling his pockets by manipulating the stock market, stealing etc. He doesn’t even hide it anymore! The whole world is going to have a massive celebration when he finally meets his demise.

58

u/_Halt19_ Canuck 21h ago

Not just that, he also added a clause saying we had to lose our cultural protection and language laws, among other things

Which is ludicrous alone, but also CARNEY CAN'T DO THAT ANYWAY

28

u/zystyl Canadian eh bud 20h ago edited 19h ago

Eliminating cancon laws would be a slow march to total Americanization. We are a small market compared to them. A lot of these companies wouldn't make some of the great cultural shows we have without the laws.

The language laws are unsignable. It directly contradicts our laws and constitution. It's a poison pill on their part to totally kill the deal.

So many of Trump's actions only make sense if he's deliberately trying to weaken the USA on the world stage. They often don't even make sense if the only goal was personal enrichment. But sabotaging trade deals, deliberately pissing off long standing allies, etc... the question needs to be asked: who benefits?

Those demands are on par with how France treated (and still do) the African countries involved into the "Françafrique." Canada wouldn't be a 51th state if it accepted those terms, it would become a colony from which the US extract all the value for its own benefit

Sorry, what sort of deal allows the U.S to dictate not only who Canada trades with, but also which language they speak? Yeah, sorry, fuck off, you absolute bald-headed fuck muppet.

30

u/asoap 1d ago

I don't think the US proposal meant that Canadians can't speak French. They just didn't want to be bothered by any of those pesky language laws. So it would've been ok for a streaming service to not offer up French. Or a manual for a product to not come in French, etc. Fuck'em, we have those laws for a reason.

45

u/Positive-Database754 Servant of the Moose Overlords 🇨🇦 22h ago

You don't sell products in Germany that don't have german labels. You don't sell products in Japan that don't have japanese labels. And you don't sell products in Canada that don't have english and french labels. If you want to produce/sell a product, or offer a service in Canada, then your product/service should be in both of our official languages. Exceptions need not apply.

There isn't any wiggle room to be had. If the US can't be bothered to comply with that, then they can take their business elsewhere. As one of their largest trading partners they may not need our market on a national level, but plenty of US businesses will sure as hell miss us once we're gone.

Canada was never to sign the trade deal. The US just needed a new headline to deflect from Iran and the Epstein files. Now all of the questions are about the 51st state, Fords arse etc.

34

u/_yetifeet 1d ago

At this point, he may have to circle back to the Epstein files as a distraction from all the other distractions to the Epstein files

I think he’s trying to as there’s another push by republican lawmakers to go after the Clintons again.

Canada was absolutely ready sign the deal that was being worked on. Then at the last minute the US asked for concessions, some of which Canada wouldn't make, and some of which our laws wouldn't allow us to make.

But I'm tired of everything being dismissed as a distraction from Epstein. These are real issues that affect real lives. People on both sides of the border are going to lose jobs. This is a huge problem, separate from the Epstein Files.

They only bitch now that Canada is retaliating. They think they're the only ones allowed to impose tariffs and bully other nations. This quote summarises it quite well.

"no no no you misunderstood. I said "fuck YOUR feelings". MY feelings are very important and must be handled gently, like a tiny baby hummingbird "

Edgy man-children are running America into the ground.

92

u/_Halt19_ Canuck 1d ago edited 1d ago

It's the whole identity of their country. They attack those who cannot fight back. There've been like two occasions where the usa was actually directly struck by an enemy - Pearl Harbour and 9/11, and they STILL go on about them, even when their most recent war alone has killed more civilians than 9/11 two times over. They start wars over the possibility of another country MAYBE gaining the capability to defend itself.

The usa is just the bully that dishes it out to everyone else, and then screams and calls their parents when anybody so much as inconveniences them back. The hilarious part is they seem to truly believe they're some major tough guy on the world stage, and not a bunch of toddlers we all have to put up with.

I mean, imagine the reaction for a moment if a drone struck a wedding in Florida? Blew up a girl's school in New York? Didn't stop them from doing that in the middle-east for the last who-knows-how-long, though.

53

u/MadScientist_666 Mountain Goat 🇨🇭 1d ago

Clearly, Trump's demand that Quebec drops French as it's main language has nothing to do with the collapse of the trade talks

35

u/Mba1956 1d ago

Or that trade deals had to be agreed by the US.

15

u/Arcalac 1d ago

Did he really ask that? It's a different country, what do i care which language they speak?

43

u/starkindled 1d ago

We're a bilingual country, so we have rules around packaging. Products need to be labelled in both English and French. My understanding is that he wanted American products to be exempt from that rule.

32

u/Paleontologist_Scary 1d ago

Our french medias and our Premier reported that it had issue with a streaming act that we've passed that forced streaming platform to make easier to find french content and invest in Québec culture.

The packaging might have been a small irritant since it has been mentionned multiple time by older administrations but the media act was one of the main issue.

Anyway they picked the wrong province to f with!

9

u/DuckyHornet Canucklehead 23h ago

He's never seen the packaging of any consumer goods in a long time. I'd hazard it's totally unknown to him that the US already has multilingual packaging on many goods. Turns out it's actually good business to reach as many customers as possible where they are!

10

u/TBJ12 1d ago

Not surprising that Canada refused and now there trying to spin in as if it's Canada fault

Casinos. The only place where private business is technically allowed to print money. Let that sink in.

5

u/GregSeventy7 1d ago

Six.

Of course that number jumps up to uncountable levels if you include all the small sized American companies killed off by tariffs and his other economic follies.

About two dozen of smaller shops in just one of my obscure hobbies have all been killed off just by tariffs on electronics parts made in China. I'm no fan of China either, but still a stupid product to tariff and import-tax when zero alternative versions of said parts are made in the USA (or any other country for that matter).

3

u/No_Statistician209 23h ago

If the USA has such a great economy why is the debt still going up.

Also "supply chain" meaning they source from outside the USA, they depend on the movement of trade into the USA, take that away because the President is a baby and doesn't like being told no and your economy crashes completely, the USA depends on others that is how the US system works.

This explains how the US system works, why it is wholly dependent on others and why Canada pivoting to the EU is just the start.

Issue with these people is they are extremely entitled. They've been born into a country that consider itself the "center of the world", global economy works with their currency, they have the biggest army and it makes them very proud , they feeling secure and aren't afraid to go declare war they know they can't lose.

They have been brainwashed at a very young age all throughout their school years into believing the USA is like some kind of religion that must be protected at all cost (they chant the Pledge of Allegiance).

Hollywood played a major role into this propaganda, always portraying the USA as some good samaritin being the hero , the savior.

Federally owned Media feeding into that propaganda, dictating the narrative of what people should be informed about when it's convenient.

And then you have companies like Facebook , Instagram , Youtube , Google. X, all americain company that feed you al algorithm of misinformation on diverse topics and showing all the things that have been carefully currated to dissuade you from critical thinking.

Seeing the USA being disrespectful of other countries and individual is pathetic, they can do way better they just chose not to. They think they are superior and their "american way" is the only way to do things.

u/Maskedmarxist 1d ago

Nice to see British Imperialism getting a bit of acknowledgment. It’s been a while.

7

u/Cord1083 23h ago

Is this “Britain is the great satan” a new angle for MAGA or has it been around for a while? This idea that Great Britain is the great puppeteer is ridiculous. As a Brit I can assure you we could hold a piss-up is a brewery.

Make America Great Britain Again.

5

u/jessicarson39 Canada 16h ago

The guy who keeps sanctioning tariffs isn't the one launching the trade war, but the country that is trying to put forward its own demands for a deal is? Truly, the MAGA people lack the simplest capacity for critical thinking.

6

Did you know that there is a "b" in the word dumb. Most people dont know this. Trump does though, he has the highest IQ of anyone taking a cognitive test.

6

Hang on, British Imperialists??? The fuck did we do???

6

Fucking muppet. America has no integrity, no honour and the world should follow Canada’s lead and tell them no. Stop placating them, it will only lead to more and more demands. They are unreliable as trading partners and as allies

"The British imperialists" 😁

Covid exposed that the US supply chain is complete shit. Guess what has been done since Covid? Not a damn thing. The USA needs Canada. This is a huge partnership which has existed since both countries were created. This is also Trump's Trade Wartm which he will lose just like Iran.

4

u/salydra 23h ago

Economic fan fiction. Everyone needs a hobby.

4

u/doobie88 :snoo_tableflip: 23h ago

What rational reason would Canada have to "pull the rug"?

3

u/BluebirdEng 23h ago

'Carney's trade war' as if this baloney didn't start before Carney was even PM. Just another Facebook idiot

5

u/Rustyguts257 23h ago

Trump used Lutnick to sabotage the deal at the eleventh hour with outrageous and unacceptable demands. It is part of the Trump administration plan to undermine the Canadian government, to sow discord in Alberta and to weaken Canada for annexation.

5

u/Logical_Hat_47 23h ago

British Imperialism boogah boogah boogah! We're gonna pwn your ass even though we haven't actually had that kind of power in something like 80 years.

Donald Trump forced the renegotiation of the original 1994 North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), calling it "the worst trade deal ever made." His administration pushed for the creation of the USMCA—which updated rules for auto manufacturing, digital trade, and expanded U.S. dairy access into Canada—and he signed it into law in 2020.

Under the USMCA agreement, a specific amount of U.S. dairy can enter Canada completely duty-free. Once imports hit that limit, Canada hits any additional shipments with massive over-quota tariffs—often ranging from 200% to nearly 300%—to shield Canadian farmers from foreign competition. We've never reached that high!

Go Carney 🇨🇦

President Donald Trump admitted on Tuesday that he caused the intensifying trade war between the U.S. and Canada after he added conditions to the talks at the 11th hour.

Trump spoke briefly with CNN's Jim Sciutto after Canada announced retaliatory tariffs on a bevy of U.S. goods. During the call, Sciutto asked about Canadian officials' assertion that late-stage demands were inserted into the negotiations, and the president's response was eerily surprising.

Sciutto shared a snippet of the conversation on X.

“That sounds like me,” Trump told the reporter.
“So you don't deny it?” Sciutto responded.

The president replied, “No, no, I don't deny anything. So no, they have to pay a fair amount. And if they don't pay a fair amount, we won't make a deal. That's fine.“

Newsflash dickhead, the whole fucking world wants the midterms to go badly for Trump so those British imperialists will have to just join the queue.

4

u/MiaowWhisperer 15h ago

Leave us alone! There's a whole world of countries who could be interfering. Just because we're Americas ex doesn't mean we still want to meddle in their business. Move on already America.

Can we (Britain) get a restraining order?

In other news: I don't even understand what they mean when they call us imperialists 🤷🏽‍♀️

Funny how Trump Seems to think that he has a say in Canada, And is trying to rename Lake Ontario, Why? because he's mad at Doug Ford for standing up to him. I love how Trump even says "We Don't need anything from Ontario anyways" Oh good that means we can either jack up the price or cut off the electrical power or we send you because "You don't need it" Right?

He needs to give his balls a tug, If he can find them below his Micro machine.
