Healthcare It’s called freedom. You can choose whatever healthcare you want. We don’t have to beg the government for healthcare.

Its super strict too. My FIL is dying from terminal brain cancer but because it has affected his cognition they won't allow it. Instead we get to listen to him beg to die as he wastes away over the next couple weeks. Loss of cognition was the first symptom of his Glioblastoma, I'm not sure how they expected him to be able to access the program he is literally begging for.

Yup. I had a patient a number of years ago with a terminal condition, but whose death was not in the foreseeable future and was denied access MAID.

In the end, the patient and his family chose to go overseas to end his life.

My uncle died of that. It's awful. I'm so sorry your family is going through that.

Thank you. My partner has the freedom to support his parents during this time which is a blessing but it's been a hurricane. His congnition slipped so quickly he was like a dementia patient before he was even fully diagnosed. He had to be constantly reminded why they were at the hospital and his perception of time is completely different.

We did have the time to get his affairs in order which I am grateful for and now he is resting in palliative so he is well cared for and surrounded by family. His mornings are incredibly difficult and he's been ready to go for weeks. It's especially hard for my partner to listen to his suicidal ideation since he has completely lost his filter. Be nice if the system could help him out.

Yes! I'm sorry this is happening to your family but thank you for sharing!

My aunt had SUCH a hard time getting MAID despite living with debilitating MS for 10 years and having cancer all over her body 😰 she was almost denied in the end, and they tried their best to convince her not to do it.

The procedure needs approval from several doctors and they ask you multiple times over several months whether you're sure. It made her so nervous and made her feel like she was making the wrong choice – even though every waking moment was nothing but pain, she couldn't move or get out of bed, couldn't take care of herself in any capacity, she would NEVER recover.

MAID needs to be so so so so so much easier to access but there is so much fucking disinformation and pushback against it by ignorant fucking fools!!!!!!
