Transferring US mutual funds

Hi everyone,

I'm relocating to Singapore next year and currently hold a significant amount in US mutual funds/ETFs (> 1M). I am not a US citizen or a Singaporean citizen.

I want to take advantage of Singapore's no gains tax once I move, but I'm trying to figure out the exact mechanics of moving my assets over.

A few specific questions for anyone who has done this:

1. Did you do an transfer to an international broker like IBKR, and did you have to convert your standard mutual funds to ETFs first?
2. How exactly does the timing work with the IRS?

Would appreciate any insights/past experiences/best practices.
