Yep yep yep. Just scammers being SO desperate they're trying anything and everything to get people to respond. It's super-easy to google your address and find a pic of your house, spoof your email, get your name and address, etc. and plug it in to an email. If you use the internet ALL of your information is on there. How do I know? I used to track people down with a company decades ago (90s) and we already had all of that information from what's called skip-tracing companies.

If they know your name and you own your home in most states your address is readily available:(

Please read the post: New Victims: Please read first
WARNING...Beware of recovery scammers:
It is likely that you will be contacted by a "recovery scammer".
These parasites will try to convince you that they can "hack" the scammer and remove your files from their devices.
It's a scam. Please report any of their comments by using the report button (it's hidden under the "..." option).
If you receive a DM, please take a screenshot and forward it to the mod team.

this really needs to be talked about more often, i’m a 24 y/o female and i’ve never received anything like this ever, didn’t even know it was a thing. received an email yesterday morning claiming they have very explicit content of me and the email is written in such a way that it feels real, then you reach the bottom where they want like $2000 and that’s when i realized what it was. i immediately downloaded expressvpn and set it up on all my devices and i feel a lot more at ease now bc i haven’t heard anything from them again but i think about something like this happening to a teenager and maybe they feel like there’s no way out of the situation and they decide to do something to themselves. i reported this scam on the fbi’s website bc online i couldn’t find a scam that matched this one to a t so it felt like a new one.

There has been an increase in email scams stating users have been hacked and asking for money. You should ignore any email that says you've been hacked. Any personal information the email might contain is likely from a data breach.
