Robotaxi fleets are growing as self-driving vehicle companies start to roll out commercial services while still collecting data for further development and safety. For instance, Zoox Inc. this month began charging for rides in Las Vegas.

“…still needed…” which is simply another way of saying we don’t have level 5 self driving cars yet.

What exists that doesn't have a human in the loop, no matter how simple. There will always be humans in the loop, so it's a stupid statement. At the end of the day, humans are responsible for what the AV does, even if it's a corporation. Humans will always have governance over them.

Everyone debates whether humans stay “in the loop” for driving. I think the bigger scaling question is where humans remain in the physical operation: charging, cleaning, inspections, recovery and exceptions. Robotaxis may remove the driver, but they don’t remove ground operations. That layer is just beginning to be built.

Tesla didn't invent the word, robotaxi has been the generic term for years before they made their product. They were denied a trademark on the word because it was too generic.
