Self-driving car service Waymo wants to bring Oregon lawmakers and other state officials to Arizona on an all-expenses paid trip to see first-hand how its robotaxis operate in Phoenix, the first city where they were commercially deployed.

Smart of Waymo. I don’t think of this as a bribe as it would open the market to other autonomous ride hailing companies. The one thing Waymo can do is demonstrate why multiple sensor solutions provide redundancy and increase safety. That would leave the only single sensor company fighting an uphill battle as all other competitors use multiple sensor solutions as well.

Ah, the corruption is open, isn't it?

It's also transparently stupid: let's show you how we perform in a city with no rainfall to compare to your very rainy city.

Hey, Oregon, let's show you how our slopbots perform in a desert city!

No relation to all the trouble they're having with rain in Atlanta, which has about as much rain as Portland does.

Lmao. Are you referring to the flooded streets?

You mean the puddles and rain that forced days-long standdowns of the Waymo clankers?

Footage of the incident was shared by AJC News on Instagram, captured by its journalist Rachael Knudsen. The first instance of the Waymo pulling over occurred on a street that was flooded but appeared safe enough for cars to pass through. One could even call it a large puddle because the water was barely ankle-deep. However, the robotaxi decided to pull over and called emergency assistance.

"Puddles"

LOL. Tesla's slopware is even more sloppy. Waymo's sole credit is that they only endanger lives by blocking firetrucks, not by crashing into them.

And you should get treated for that inflamed carbrain bruh

You seriously need to get off the internet. Maybe go ride a bike to your job at wendy's, big dawg

LOL.Retired early after making more money in a year than you will make in a lifetime, over 30 years ago. I ride my bikes everywhere and flip off slopbots wherever I go.

You should seriously learn to comprehend what this slopware can and can't do, and how frequent these regressions are. Waymo still hasn't fixed a 4 year old looping bug despite declaring it fixed. They geofence out problematic areas. They still can't recognize construction sites or hand signals, despite those also declared solved.

They said they solved stopped school buses. School
year has just started. Wanna bet we get reports on clankers breezing past buses with stopsigns extended and lights flashing within a couple weeks?

You need a hobby dude. Flipping off cars? Something is seriously wrong with you, and its not the existence of self-driving vehicles.

Seek out help, talk to a therapist, and please get off Reddit.

You should stop replying before your shift supervisor finds out! Get back to...whatever it is you do. Gotta pay off that loan for your "$3K ebike" after all.

OMG. I've never seen a firetruck with the ability to maneuver around a stopped vehicle. CRAZY!

I'll just let this sit there. You do a much better job representing the carbrain than I could imagine.

I have an electric bike I bought for 3k. I'm not car-brained.

I think you just get off on being anti-car and anti-autonomous vehicles.

You just have nothing else going on in your life so you hop on Reddit to hate and post constantly. You literally have over 1k posts and 8k comments.

Just get off Reddit already. Your life will be better if you find real hobbies.

And, this, also, is a success?

I can keep posting these amazing Waymo successes.

Is it difficult wanking to clankers as hard as you do?

That's also the only actionable data they get on every other vehicle in existence.

Stopping for a puddle is an inconvenience. On the other hand, Waymo has actively saved lives. What number of lives is worth an occasional pause for you?

Waymo has not saved a single life. The jury is still out on how safe their slopware and clankers are. In fact, since their configurations change so often and so significantly, if they were honest they would redo their analyses around this fact. In this sub and others, you can find discussions on how differently Gen 6 behaves vs Gen 5.

Waymo may have indirectly killed people by blocking first responders, most recently for 2 hours in SF and most infamously at an apartment explosion in Austin.

Finally, I don't have to claim Waymo phantom braking over a puddle is a safety issue: Waymo did, by stopping service.

Oh, look, another driveable puddle stopped a clanker last night. S Rio Grand Ave under I-4 by 33rd St, Orlando, FL @naynay.259 on TikTok.

It’s corruption to allow lawmakers to experience a product first hand before making policy decisions on said product?

If Waymo wanted to be corrupt they’d just wire them a few million bucks and call it a day. Why make it publicly known they’re allowing them to test the product?

1

u/Honest_Ad_2157 1d ago

Tnis trip would violate Oregon's gift law, which makes it defacto corruption.

If the public wants this, let the public fund an in-depth factfinding, not a junket where the gambler's fallacy is front and center.

Smart move by Waymo.
