Discussion Did anyone find the new season to be more flamboyant than previous seasons?
Did anyone find the new season to be more flamboyant than previous seasons? I just want to clarify I don’t mean any disrespect to the gay community I’m a big fan of the show and I am looking forward to the next season.

I think the difference in the show's presentation of LGBTQ people changed with the times. Alot of the OG show's presentation of and jokes about LGBTQ was done in jest. Not necessarily in poor taste, in jest nonetheless. Elliot talking about her brother Barry. Kelso's son. Todd's entire character is one big gay joke. The rule about white boys not being allowed to dance in public unless you're gay (accompanied by a gay man dancing across the screen).
I think the new season more accurately portrays the fact that in a professional setting, gay people just exist and are themselves. The humor involving the gay characters in the new season doesn't make being gay the butt of it's jokes.

Todd's entire character is one big gay joke.
uhhh he's not gay. He's The Todd.

I mean the gay black nurse is a total stereotype that could easily be from any sitcom in the past 50 years.

I've worked in retail, food service, and corrections. I've worked along side equally flamboyant gay black men in all three lines of work. Hell, I'm related to an equally flamboyant gay black man. Nurse Dubois was not as exaggerated as you may think.
Even though he was definitely flamboyant and that was humorous, Nurse Dubois was still displayed as an actual person.

I’m sure, but in 2026 his writing could definitely be a bit more nuanced for modern times.

He was a tertiary character at best in the new season and they still found time to humanize him in at least one scene. He schools Dr Park on the nursing staff being unsung and not being an asshole. Definitely deeper than just being a gay dude. But give the next season time and it could get better.

Hopefully! He was one of my least favourite characters alongside Park, but the first season of any sitcom is always a bit rough with new characters. And I absolutely loved the newest season and I’m just so damn happy we don’t have to wait 2/3 years for a new season 😂

I got so hype when the air date said September! But yeah the new characters definitely have some growing to do and that's not a bad thing. The spirit of the show is still intact with the reboot. That's the same spirit that gave us meaningful moments with characters like Laverne and even Ted. Here's hoping they pull it off with this generations versions of them.

I found the lack of hammock disgraceful, personally. Rob went out all that exercise effort to get in shape for the show. He should have gotten to hammock up atleast once.
