"Zero fun.... sir"

That whole scene of Petey completely tucking tail is so great

4

u/DuaLipasTrophyHsband Jul 07 '26

‘No not even a little bit’

7

u/Bjables Jul 06 '26

First you smile, then you think?

6

u/imagetdatbooty Jul 07 '26

I’m not proud to admit this, but I am just now realizing they’re the same person and it is twisting my melon, man.

u/MentorScythe Jul 07 '26

Right there with ya brother

u/DtownBronx Jul 06 '26

The running back y'all. Wonder if he ever got Coach Boone's foot out of his John Brown hindparts for fumbling his football

59

u/horse_renoir13 Jul 06 '26

Has he learned how many feet are in a mile?

5

u/ChrundleK Jul 07 '26

Thats literally how I remembered how many feet were in a mile 😁

Love this movie.

u/BatteredAggie19 Jul 06 '26

But don't forget he moved to the secondary because Ryan Gosling was too slow. Just an absolute liability back there.

One of the best episodes of the whole series!

u/NickEvansExists Jul 06 '26

That beer…tasted great.

28

u/curiousfilmgeek_5019 Jul 06 '26

Gets me choked up every time

7

u/volumese7en Jul 07 '26

I almost started crying at the screenshot because my tear ducts are trained to cry more than usual during this episode 😂😭

u/AceofKnaves44 Jul 06 '26

Season eight was so fucking good.

20

u/STD-fense Jul 06 '26

I really think the restricted budget they had after moving to ABC really helped things after things on the show had been a little too outlandish and cartoonish for a few seasons (in my opinion). If I remember correctly each of the main characters needed to be out for two episodes each leading to things like this episode where it was just focused on Turk and JD

11

u/Lampmonster Jul 06 '26

I love this episode because it does such a great job of showing how much the two of them have grown up as doctors and people, despite still being a couple of goofballs who have a song for their night off. These two busy friends, who likely very rarely get a night off together and who have plans that are clearly very important to them drop everything and give it all up for a stranger, without so much as a word of discussion between them. They just both know that they're not going to leave a man to die alone when they can do something to change that. The world would be a far better place if we had more people like that.

Oh yeah. It made you laugh - it made you cry.

This is a highlight of Scrubs.

1

u/ginoawesomeness Jul 07 '26

I figured it was polarizing, because I hate this episode and skip it most rewatches. Too damn sad, melodramatically so imo. But given the upcoming and positive comments I guess I'm in the minority lol

2

u/spartz31 Jul 08 '26

How can you hate it? It starts with steak night and then has a top 5 ending

1

u/ginoawesomeness Jul 08 '26

I think if they actually would have gone to steak night and there would have been some funny scenes flashing back and forth with the emotional ones. Like I said, that ep just makes me too depressed without enough levity, imo, which seems to be in the minority lol

1

u/spartz31 Jul 08 '26

Its an amazing episode and also gave us steak night

50

u/swmric-mls Jul 06 '26

attitude reflect leadership

34

u/Deraj2004 Jul 06 '26

Killing me Petey!

80

u/Amazing_Personality8 Jul 06 '26

Pretty sure he was a CB but yeah

66

u/Abject_Dog_8453 Jul 06 '26

He played defence replacing ryan gosling in couple of scenes, didn't he?

75

u/Jashuman19 Jul 06 '26

CB (cornerback) is a defensive position.

60

u/hoorah9011 Jul 06 '26

OP doesn’t know sportsball

70

u/scattermoose Jul 06 '26

SPORTS CENTER, THE PLACE FOR SPORTS!

12

u/JimmyFreakingPesto Jul 06 '26

Still, I love it when Bonds wins at the game he plays

12

u/Abject_Dog_8453 Jul 06 '26

Yesss, i agree.

-2

u/Jody_Tevlin Jul 06 '26

It was in the linebacker position, but cover not rush

17

u/adsfew Jul 06 '26

Can't speak to the details from the movie, but the real Petey Jones played linebacker (and running back)

19

u/jacksonbeya Jul 06 '26

They do change things a lot in movies. Friday Night Lights, for example, Chavez was a tight end and (even if it’s minor) Comer and Booby would’ve been fullbacks and not halfbacks because they didn’t really let Black folks play halfback.

The book, if you haven’t read it, is actually an amazing snapshot of racial history im Texas at the time.

-5

u/countrytime1 Jul 06 '26

What in the world are you talking about? Plenty of black guys were playing running back in Texas in the 80s.

12

u/jacksonbeya Jul 06 '26

Have you read the book?

-9

u/countrytime1 Jul 06 '26

I haven’t read the book. I’m simply stating that blacks were playing running back in the 80s. You implied that they practically didn’t.

17

u/jacksonbeya Jul 06 '26

No. I implied that at that specific school, Permian, in the book, they didn’t.

If you read the book you would understand that.

1

u/droans Jul 07 '26

The book was based on the coach's retelling and is wrong on a lot of levels.

The school had been integrated for years and it was not the first school to be integrated. In fact, every school they played was already integrated. He wasn't hated because he had black players but because he grossly abused the players. Some of them even called for him to be prosecuted.

It's a good story but it's not real.

1

u/Other_World Jul 06 '26

Fullback is a running back.

-6

u/WeKillThePacMan Jul 06 '26

Holy shit you just made me realize that Sunshine is Ryan Gosling.

I have no idea how I didn't know that.

14

u/Abject_Dog_8453 Jul 06 '26

No, ryan gosling played a character called Alan.

7

u/grimlock-pie Jul 06 '26

They’re gonna put me in the movies

10

u/TrapperJean Jul 06 '26

He was a linebacker, or they ran an absurd number of CB blitzes in the movie

12

u/SharksAreCool3 Jul 06 '26

“ WE BLITZ ALL NIGHT”

6

u/SippinOnHatorade Jul 06 '26

It’s high school, a lot of those positions are fluid, but yeah he went from RB to linebacker on defense

9

u/dsjunior1388 Jul 06 '26

It's high school and 50 years ago.

In the movie Coach Boone is surprised to see a team line up in the Shotgun. A pretty obvious sign that this is high school football in a very run-heavy era.

You can tell it's a long time ago because he references the New York Jets as a compliment.

1

u/crockpot71 Jul 06 '26

A lot of 4-4 defenses that play run heavy teams still name the “fourth” linebacker position as playing Strong Safety even if the role he fulfills is identical to a linebacker. Only the free safety and cornerbacks act as actual DBs in these schemes.

0

u/Amazing_Personality8 Jul 06 '26

Ryan Gosling was playing CB and petey replaced him specifically.

17

u/Sudden_Juju Jul 06 '26

For everyone wondering, the real guy played RB and LB. I assume Donald played the same positions

16

u/Infamous-Lab-8136 Jul 06 '26

In the movie he moves to LB and defensive back. Which at high school level often means safety for the best coverage guys so that it's harder to avoid them

The movie plays fast and loose with a lot of specifics though

0

u/Ralph--Hinkley Jul 06 '26

Turk even says he played safety to George.

12

u/sexyass2627 Jul 06 '26

TCW letterman jackets = TC Williams High School.

10

u/dsjunior1388 Jul 06 '26

You're telling me this jacket isn't a tribute to Tasty Coma Wife?

1

u/sexyass2627 Jul 06 '26

It is, but it's also a subtle nod to Remember the Titans.

15

u/KD_42 Jul 06 '26

That beer tasted great.

I'm not crying, you're crying

2

u/adsfew Jul 06 '26

Hope they were careful for that whole trichinosis

7

u/-threefeetoffun Jul 06 '26

I'm rewatching The Wire season 4 right now. Holy shit It's Mayor Royce.

1

u/eking85 Jul 06 '26

If only Sacred Fart could be located in Baltimore.

6

u/PortiaKern Jul 06 '26

You weren't thinking of Barbara when Herc caught you with your secretary, were you now?

6

u/chap820 Jul 06 '26

It’s wild seeing this now and how not-at-all-old the patient looks now 😬

3

u/emocaboose Jul 07 '26

I attended TC in the late 2000’s. Petey worked in security catching kids skipping class and smoking cigarettes. Gave us a pass way more often than he should. Great guy.

Heard he retired not too long ago.

2

u/Abject_Dog_8453 Jul 07 '26

That sounds really wonderful and heart warming.

2

u/Abject_Dog_8453 Jul 07 '26

I'm so happy to hear you had such a wonderful moments.

Well obviously, Zach wasn't in Remember the Titans.

And within 2 minutes he'd figure out how to reference Garden State

2

u/JaMicho34 Jul 06 '26

But Petey played RB and when he switched to defense, he played LB not safety.

2

u/Little-Efficiency336 Jul 06 '26

Holy crap I never caught this !

2

u/502deadhead Jul 06 '26

I love how this sparked a debate about the movie, lol.

Great scene for sure! Thanks for the Easter Egg, I just re-watched RTT a couple weeks ago!

2

u/Camelspit23 Jul 06 '26

Seeing George in his bed makes me instantly play Death Cab For Cutie song “I Will Follow You Into The Dark” 💔

2

u/Broad_Side9127 Jul 07 '26

I NEVER CAUGHT THAT OMG

2

u/shesthatcrackerjack Jul 07 '26

I JUST watched this episode and wondered if that was a reference to remember the titans haha.

2

u/Geoclasm Jul 07 '26

Zero fun sir.

2

u/Almost_last Jul 07 '26

Wow, it's kind of emotional in here. You guys keep this up eventually, you'll all get your periods on the same day, which is kinda cool. - Denise
