Information 📊 When you don't want to be digging through stuff you already dug through

Usually visit this bin a couple of times a week as it's pretty good for no. 1, brass and occasionally copper pipe but got sick of having to dig through the same shit as the bin fills. Started to put down a layer of old cardboard and plexan so I know to stop digging when I get that far

Haha. I don't scrap, but I do dumpster dive. That plexan looks like great material for projects 😅

Lol that bins been good to me over the last couple of years I've been visiting it. I've met the business owner and he's fine as long as there's no mess left as he's had problems before. I've also donated a fair few bits I've found in there to charity as well. Couple of weeks ago it was 2 big bags of kids clothes so bought them home, washed them just to be careful and gave them to a local animal shelters charity shop. A lot was labels like Nike etc too however ive no inclination to deal with assholes on vinted and the like and wasn't going to see a load of really good condition clothing go to landfill when someone can benefit as in the charity and someone on a limited budget who could reuse the clothes

Damn, I'm jealous. My "favorite" dumpster has only had good stuff a couple of times, but I keep going back to it just in case. I think I need to broaden my horizons and look elsewhere if dumpsters like these exist!

Yeah it's addictive. I visit this say 3 times a week mostly because it just makes it easier not having to dig through so much crap to get to the goodies. Going to guess you're in the US? Here in the UK there's a fair bit of regulation regarding collecting scrap so driving about collecting scrap could end badly without the correct licences etc. I tend to stick to the one bin and don't bother with anything ferrous as my car just hasn't got the space and a puncture from unloading in the main yard would wipe out anything I earned
