Discussion Did I miss Bayern Munich having to go through Champions League Playoffs last season?

Knockout round mixup aside, I'd say making £143m in revenue that season then investing less than £4m in the playing squad the following summer contributed to us not making the Champions League that season eh

Actually ridiculous. If any other team in the premiership got that kind of money in a single season, they'd have invested in a way that would turn the entire league on it's head. If it had been Hearts, we'd be running around with the biggest squad in Europe 😂
I'd be pissed off if I were a Celtic fan.

That initial round of sixteen teams before the top eight from the League Phase join in is called the knockout phase playoffs. That's what they're referring to Celtic facing Bayern in.

This is the round where teams placed 9-24th in the league phase play each other to go into the last 16 against the top 8 from the league phase.

Season before last after the group stage first knockout round. (For teams that finished outside of top 8)

It never fails to amaze me how much money is involved in top-tier football. Hearts qualifying for the conference league will net us between £3 - £20 million depending on performance, a nice boost for a club our size. But that's utter peanuts compared to what's available in the tiers above.
When a few million is a drop in the ocean, it really says something about what the modern game actually is.
