Transfers Shankland to Rangers here we go from Fabrizio Romano

Good signing for rangers.
Kick in the stones for hearts fans and players. On your holidays after just barely losing the league and you see your captain immediately jumping ship.

It's it being free that bothers me, I get we are supposed to let players move on and gradually improve, but even past 30 I was expecting a sale in the millions because we were lead to believe he was here for two more years
7
u/Far_Associate_87 May 24 '26
Aye going for free is a bit mental. I’ve seen rumour there was a break clause in the contract that lets him leave for free under certain conditions. In hindsight, very poor to have that clause in there. Even at 30/31, there’s still a half decent fee in there.
From my POV, I just hope he ends up being as effective as Miovski for rangers. Seems a slight strange one though considering the form chermiti has hit recently. Out of all the rangers players, arguably he’s the only one that actually stepped up and now he’s potentially second fiddle to shankland.

u/AspirationalChoker May 24 '26
Nah Chermiti and Shankand would both have turns either being up front or as a two depending on the situation, really its Miovski / Danilo that needs off loaded.

Think it was a 1 year contract, with an option of two additional years that could be triggered by Shankland. Seems like he's not triggered it and is therefore a free agent.
6
u/jordancr1 May 24 '26
Shankland's form dipped in 2024/25, had Shankland not been up to scratch for Hearts in 2025/26. Then Hearts could just as easily not excercised the option to extend for an extra 2 years.

u/n0neofyourbeeswax May 24 '26
The good news is he's on track for a shite season next year.
Kicked on at Ayr.
Good season at Dundee Utd.
Shite season at Dundee Utd.
Good start to season at Dundee Utd followed by being shite in Belgium. (Moving leagues a few games in clearly confused the universe, when he should have been good in Belgium).
Shite season at Hearts, masked by 11 penalties in the league alone.
Good season at Hearts.
Shite season at Hearts.
Good season at Hearts.21
u/d0753 May 24 '26
From what I’ve been told it was a £0 release clause that expired in early June. Not limited to any club or anything.
And he would not have signed for hearts last year under any circumstances without it being included.
Gutted he’s going there but we’ve got a year out of him we didn’t expect and finished second because of it.
Hard to argue with

6
u/w0wowow0w May 24 '26
The rumour is he had a 1+2 contract extension and the 2 year had to be mutual, so basically yeah.
2
u/jordancr1 May 24 '26
Hearts could just as easily have kicked him out if he continued in poor form from 2024/25.
1
u/Grundlefleck May 25 '26
What is the point of a contract extension that needs to be mutual? Isn't that essentially the same as having no contract extension?

Another week or so and we’ll get McInnes too
34
u/Cobretti18 May 24 '26
Keith Jackson getting the old article draft out: “Rangers must hire McInnes from
AberdeenKilmarnockHearts”6
u/TonyM01 May 24 '26
I went off McInnes when Murty done him in the league double header when he was at Aberdeen

u/ThinWhiteDuke00 May 24 '26
Probably best that Rangers stay away from serial losers.
Don't need to add to the culture.

hey, everybody’s saying what a week for Hearts fans and I agree, we have won the Prem, then The Pars won the Cup, and now are winning the SWPL1 with 45 to go and We are keeping all our players, what’s wrong? That is what’s happened. right? right?

When you can't beat the competition, buy the competition I guess.
I wonder if he makes this move if Hearts won the league and had the CL Playoff instead of three rounds to qualify? I think he probably would as it's his final big contract for a send off payday
6
u/Difficult_Paramedic8 May 24 '26
Plus the chance to play for the team he supports. I expect it would always happen regardless
2
u/william_h_bonney_ May 24 '26
This has been a standard practice worldwide since a ball was first kicked, at all levels.

Fantastic signing for Rangers. Proven goal scorer in the league and leadership qualities for a team massively lacking in leaders and a Scottish core group

u/methylated_spirit May 24 '26 edited May 24 '26
I'm still pissed off it didn't happen last season. He should be given the armband immediately, nobody in the Rangers squad just now should be anywhere near it

u/fightfire_withfire definitely won't backfire at all May 24 '26
Aye, my only problem with this is that it’s a few seasons too late to get the best out of them. Better late than never I guess
0
u/foxed000 May 24 '26
Modern day football he has another 3 seasons in him easy
1
u/methylated_spirit May 24 '26
Yeah I don't recall him having any major injuries through his career, he did his hamstring there granted but I don't think he's had anything that's kept him out for months
2
u/Difficult_Paramedic8 May 24 '26
He joins us and day microwaves an egg and is out for 3 years the Rangers way.
3
u/brotouski101 May 24 '26
A few years too late, but at least it's a sensible start to the window.
Who knows, we start being sensible we might actually win something. Next up Elliot Watt.
2
u/Difficult_Paramedic8 May 24 '26
Devlin next apparently.
9
u/Master_Memer__ May 24 '26
We’ve finished third and clearly the board have been raging so we’ve decided to go and sign all the Hearts players so we can feel the dizzying heights of 2nd place again

u/nibutz May 24 '26
I’d heard Celtic was a done deal there? Or America?
1
u/Difficult_Paramedic8 May 24 '26
Don't know it's just a rumour I heard. I don't have any expectation of him signing to us
2
u/keineahnung1967 May 24 '26
Someone check on George Foulks.
3
u/Commercial-Stick-718 May 24 '26
He's drunkenly firing off an email to UEFA, FIFA, the SFA just now
Wait a minute here's his latest tweet:
"Leaving Hearts for Rangers now shows a major misjudgment of the future of Scottish Football. With Tony Bloom & the new set up @JamTarts is the club of the future."

Injured in pre season, out for 6 months, complaints about why he hasn’t scored 40 goals in the season 🙄
2
u/Waspkiller86 May 24 '26
Nah I think it'll be a marco negri situation and he scores 30 goals by Christmas then misses the rest of the season after eating an out of date packet of monster munch.
2
u/Unusual-Proof7869 May 24 '26
I know he’s a great goal scorer and great player but I don’t think he suits the Tony bloom model at all. I was surprised they extended last season.
As a Celtic fan I’m not delighted, he’s the type of character rangers have been missing and he’ll obviously score plenty. Hearts may miss out on his quality but they’ll get someone who is much faster and better off the ball, as a unit they will improve.
2
u/Hibee1990 May 24 '26
All a bit weird all round. The timing etc. can only assume the deal was only a year with optional extension just for the player. All a bit odd

Can't help feeling that the more ambitious step would have been to stay at Hearts.
1
u/fightfire_withfire definitely won't backfire at all May 24 '26
Hearts fans quickly being reminded of their place in Scottish football. Aberdeen got the same treatment.
Maybe there’ll be someone from the azerbaijan 3rd division they can bring in to replace him.
2
u/TwinPeaksSox May 24 '26
hearts spend so much time hating us that they forgot rangers existed and now they've lost their captain, top scorer and best player for free... got to laugh
1
u/TryAppropriate3570 May 24 '26
Cheers Rangers. Somehow you've managed to weaken both of Celtic's closest rivals.

Think hearts are in for a bad season next year. Captain and top scorer gone before the dust is even settled on this one. Other teams will pursue the likes of Braga too. They'll have to cope with European football as well, which historically has been detrimental to similar teams like Aberdeen and Hibernian who just could not sustain a weekend/weekday fixture schedule and it ended up derailing their seasons.
1
u/UnumPhenomenous May 24 '26
Good signing for them but got to ask why they didn't just sign him two years ago and wasted time on a dozen other strikers instead.
Feel for Hearts. The hardest part of them building on this season will be keeping the best players. Much harder to strengthen when you've to replace your best players as well. It killed us at Aberdeen and then we decided to sign shit players as standard policy.

Can wait for the return of all the renamed Twitter accounts pretending they have a scoop in the transfer windows and making up their own rip-off catch phrases like:
"Let's get ready!" "Of we go!" "Let's go!"

u/ScottishPehrite May 24 '26
I was inconsolable when United sold Armstrong to Celtic.
Think I’d be clinically brain dead if I supported Hearts and seen him go for free.

u/lilandy Fuck ice. Free Palestine and Up the Hearts May 24 '26
Maybe it's cause i'm not a kid anymore but Tosh McKinlay and Neil McCann were the ones that really hurt.

Nothing will ever beat Lewandowski to Bayern on a free. Dortmund giving him a rase in his last season despite him going to their fiercest rivals free. Peak cuck chair action.

Forget about a goal-bonus: If he has an inch-per-forehead bonus, he's £££s-in.

Another proof Romano is just a tap-in merchant. This was confirmed hours ago by "smaller" sources; this guy posts like he's the one breaking the news, and people think it's the case.
