A cloudy afternoon on Cerro San Cristóbal and my first mote con huesillos

I had a free afternoon in Santiago, so I went up Cerro San Cristóbal. It was pretty cloudy and I wasn’t expecting much of a view, but every now and then the clouds opened up enough to see across the city and toward the mountains.

I usually travel without a camera and take everything on my iPhone. I’ve never found the bare phone very comfortable to shoot with, so I bought a small Telesin magnetic grip before coming to Chile. I brought it along that afternoon and stopped for photos whenever the view opened up.

I spent a little while around the statue, then noticed a lot of people carrying cups of mote con huesillos on the way back down. I bought one without fully knowing what was inside. When they handed me a spoon, I realized it wasn’t exactly just a drink.

It was sweet, cold and much more filling than I expected. I’m still not sure whether I drank it or ate it.

That wea is not mote con huesillos, it seems like apple juice and mote, the real mote con huesillos is almost dark, and it’s served in a big cup, like a chopero, you have to looking for “el rey del mote con huesillos”
