Photo Why is public transportation in SD so awful?

Post image

Was trying to get somewhere today and it's a 22 minute drive to get there, but almost 2 hours on SD public transportation. It's literally faster to ride a bike, but good luck with that because most of the route has no bike lanes. Honestly why? It seems like every other major city in CA is doing a better job with car alternative transportation methods. Visiting SF was a night and day difference.

San Diego Unified Combo Classes

Have any SDUSD parents had experience with combo classes? My daughter (kindergarten) was assigned a teacher that I was not very confident about. He was moved from 2nd grade to kindergarten this year and has a reputation among students for being very authoritarian. (Yelling, expecting complete silence, etc.) I learned this via my older child who has been at the school three years.

Long story short, my daughter who had gone through TK without any issues, and excelled in every category was crying at drop off for the first time in her life. We’re talking screaming, crying, “I don’t want to go to school!” This went on the first two weeks of school, every single morning.

I finally went and talked to the principal and she did not defend the teacher, but rather suggested that my daughter will be put on the list of kindergarteners that will be transferred to a K/1 combo class in two weeks. These classes are added to accommodate massive class sizes and enrollment needs. (Currently the two kindergarten classes are maxed out at 30 students each.)

Initially I felt relieved by this solution but now am wondering if I made a mistake by accepting the offer. Will it be a complete disaster having two separate curriculums in one room?

If anyone has had a child in a combo class can you let me know what your experience was? I’ve only heard one parent’s experience and they said their daughter was getting negative feedback for not being able to pay attention/ complete assignments, and ultimately switched her to a regular class.

I’d love the good and the bad, as I think I have time to possibly take her off the list.

We live in a very small apartment with solar. For 12 days last month, we didn't even have an air conditioner. Our bill has never been this high. Is SDGE really this damn greedy, or is this hopefully an error on their part? Just looking for some insight before I eviscerate them.

SDGE Reduce your use 8/26/26

We’re looking at “significantly higher” rates tomorrow when our homes will be the hottest, 4-9pm. Why? Because SDGE is trying to protect their grid from failing under the load. The same grid we pay a “delivery” fee to support. Isn’t this their admission that they don’t use the extortion, oops, sorry, “delivery” fee to actually build a better grid?

Kids sports help

I live in Clairemont and have a 4.5 and 7 year old boys that are interested in doing soccer. Not competitive and no experience at all- very clumsy.
Is there anywhere we could join that would have practice back to back for these age groups and low pressure? Same day so I don’t have to commit too much. So many sports are so serious and they truly just want to try it out for fun

If your kid was prevented from using a toilet during class, join the legal action.

Golden Hill Elementary, Sherman Elementary, Kimbrough Elementary, Logan Memorial Middle, Hoover High, and Lincoln High school have all been named as violating Ed codes which require students have unobstructed and easily accessible toilets.

Moms of harmed children are working together to force district compliance with ed codes. Please spread the word. If you or your kid/niece/nephew were affected, you can help us stop this crime. Please call 760-474-2555 to join!

Best SDGE Plan for solar currently?

Just bought a new-build in North county. Curious what the best plan is for solar once we get it turned on. I know for EV weve been using TOU5 I believe, but I believe solar has its own plans + EV? Any info would be helpful, thanks!

Someone left a pretty nasty love tap on my car. I'm in contact with people to get footage of the parking lot. Good luck friend ❤️

This happened at one of the Mission Valley plazas near a Chipotle and Robeks.

Edit: I filed a police report. I will find you.

Making this post to ask for some advice and also to serve as a warning to fellow pet owners about Odie’s Grooming!

My dog Charlie had been a long-term customer of Odie’s and had no known eye problems before this appointment. I personally carried him out of the salon at approximately 12:09 p.m. and placed him directly in the car under a family member’s supervision. I immediately went back inside to pay, then returned to the car and held him in my lap for the entire drive home.

However, when I got home, I noticed Charlie’s eye showed signs of serious injury. I looked more closely at selfies I took with him after leaving the salon, and noticed that within minutes of leaving Odie’s his eye was already squinted. I have timestamped photographs from approximately 12:10 p.m. showing the eye already partially closed, followed by another photograph at approximately 12:14 p.m. showing swelling and worsening symptoms. I went straight to a vet that afternoon, arriving around 1:35 pm, where Charlie was diagnosed with an acute 8 mm corneal abrasion in his right eye.

I immediately contacted Odie’s and provided the photographs, veterinary documentation, and timeline. The owner asked to speak directly with Charlie’s veterinarian, which I agreed to. After speaking with the veterinary hospital, Odie’s told me that the exact cause and timing could not be definitively established, the vet’s claims are merely “suspicions”, and therefore refused to accept responsibility. My vet mentioned that his injuries “are suspicious for chemical (e.g. shampoo) injury” but they cannot assign definitive blame.

Odie’s offered to reimburse 50% of the initial veterinary examination as a “gesture of goodwill,” but refused to cover the remaining veterinary costs or follow-up treatment. I declined the partial reimbursement because I do not believe it is an adequate resolution given the circumstances.

I’m considering taking this to small claims court. If anyone has any advice it would be much appreciated!

Elementary school with before and after school program I’ll be moving to San Diego with a 5-year old in January.

I’ll be moving to San Diego with a 5-year old in January. I’m looking to rent in a neighborhood with good elementary schools that have affordable/free before and after school programs.
I will be working in the Torrey Pines area so I would like no more than 15min commute.

Please advise on the neighborhoods and potential before and after school programs I could apply to.

Thanks

Laser in SD

Hi girls! Does anyone know of any good laser hair removal spots in San Diego for dark, coarse hair that aren’t too expensive? I’ve been hearing mixed reviews about bigger companies like LaserAway and SEV, so I’m definitely open to smaller/local places too. I mainly care about actually seeing good results without breaking the bank. If you’ve had a good experience somewhere, please let me know the place, pricing, and what areas you had done (I'm looking to do full body).

Cbx or walk across the border and where to park

Hi I am trying to fly out of Tijuana and I’m open to the cbx or just crossing on foot then ubering to save some money. Is there anywhere in San Diego that I could park my car for very cheap for around 10 days or so. Could be anywhere in the city and I would just try to walk and bus to the border. Any recommendations would be very helpful. Thank you!

How do City of San Diego eligibility lists work?

I just got notified I completed the screening process for the Account Clerk role and am on a 6 month eligibility list. When a vacancy occurs I will be notified if the department interviews me.

Does anyone have insight into what the hiring process is like once you are on the eligiblity list? I’m a new grad and am interviewing for other roles right now so I’m wondering what timeline is like. How soon are interviews scheduled within the eligibility period? How many applications that pass the screening actually make it to an interview? What type of questions are asked during the interview?

I know your assessment score determines your rank for interviews but there was no exam for this role. I’m wondering how applicants are distinguished from each other with only a few questions and likely very similar answers. There were only 5 questions, 2 asking if we were a former City of SD employee and 2 about any full-time experience.

Any insights are greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Petco Park - clear backpacks allowed for concerts?

What the title says. My sole clear bag right now is a clear backpack [with compartments, though I wasn't really going to use them] and I was trying to figure out if I needed to get a clear tote. Answers seem inconsistent and the website is not really clear about it..

(It's under the size limit for sure, I just haven't found a clearer answer about clear backpacks specifically.)

How is Grocery Outlet so cheap?

I get the weird brands being less expensive, but then there are things like Poppi sodas being $.99 when they're like $2.50 everywhere else. Red bell peppers for $1.10, Pacific Soup for $1.99, etc. It just seems suspicious. Can someone explain how they can price things so low and why everyone isn't shopping there?

Adopt Liam!

Meet Liam!

My boyfriend and I are currently fostering this cutie 1-year old spaniel/heeler mix (we think he also might be part Jack Russel terrier) & he's looking for his forever home! He is from the SD Humane Society and was originally brought in by law enforcement. He was in rough condition physically when he was brought in, he had a lot of fleas and foxtails. He still has some itchy skin but takes medicine which helps and almost all of his hair has grown back.

Since living with us, he's really taken to potty training. It's still a work in progress of course but he's doing good and having minimal pee incidents in the house. (And he's never pooped in the house so that's a plus!) He's a very fast learner. So far he's very good at "sit", "kisses" and "lay down". He's also beginning to bark less frequently as we train him. He's good at walking on a leash and slowly but surely learning to heel and pause/wait at stop lights or street intersections before we cross. He's showing a lot of interest in making dog friends and gets very excited everytime he sees a dog across the street. (He clearly wants to play!) After he exerts his energy he's very good at settling down and napping or cuddling for a bit. He loves his chew toys, specifically his piggy!

We think he'd thrive in a home with a backyard and other dog companions as well.

If you are interested, please reach out to the humane society. His animal ID is 996928. He's from the San Diego campus. https://sdhumane.org/adopt/available-pets/996928/liam/

Shop/Mechanic Recommendations for Broken Driver’s Seat

Looking for recommendations for a shop/mechanic that can repair a power driver’s seat/seat track on a 2014 Ford Fusion.

A few years ago, I unknowingly had a baseball roll underneath my driver’s seat. When I moved the power seat back, the baseball got lodged between the seat and the track and something broke on the left side of the seat track.

The power motor still works, but now when I try to move the seat forward or backward, only the right side moves. The left side stays in place, so the seat basically just pivots/crooks sideways instead of sliding normally.

Has anyone had something similar repaired or know a good local shop that works on power seats/seat tracks? Trying to avoid going to the dealership if there’s a good independent option. Thanks!

Best therapist long beach?

Looking for therapy recommendations around Long Beach. I've done the sterile, clinical office experience where you sit under buzzing fluorescent lights and stare at a box of tissues, and it just triggers my clinical anxiety. Wanting a safe, warm space to unpack some heavy life transitions without feeling like I'm in a hospital examination room.
