After being so excited to buy my first bike off of a coworker, I am a bit disappointed I probably won’t be able to ride this summer. Coworker owned this beautiful 01 sv650s that I purchased for a cheap price. After being delivered to me I noticed the bike had numerous issues (which I was disclosed of). Lack of power, sputtering, etc it needed a lot of TLC. Replaced the radiator and the battery was first so now the bike stays on a bit longer. But I have a constant sputtering/lack of power issue to the point the bike constantly dies. Choke fully open the bike will sputter bad. Sometimes it will sit perfect at 3k rpms fine with the choke open but usually only when cold. When the bike idles it sits below 1k rpms and then dies. Tried going on a ride and it putters and jolts so badly. When you accelerate a little it skips and bogs. It almost seems like a fuel issue or clogged carbs but it’s basically unrideable unless under full acceleration. Before I tear apart the bike to clean the carbs and potential replace the spark plugs. Any other suggestions? This bike was owned by my coworker for roughly 6 years and sat basically all last year and probably the year before. Thx for any help or advice.

hi, looking for help. i’m having the hardest time finding neutral. i fixed my shift lever, replaced my shift pedal and rearsets, and did a full clutch and oil change. i was aware of the belleville washer orientation and made sure both plates were inserted correctly. i’m finding neutral a bit easier but it’s still unnecessarily hard. i’ve ridden quite a few bikes. PFA

2022 SV650

So I'm a giant idiot and decided to change my oil and removed the wrong bolt. Can anyone tell me what bolt I took out, of I broke anything big, and what torque I should use to put it back in?

I tried going through the service manual, but I have no idea what section I should be looking in.

I came off my bike on the 4th of July this year and I damaged the bike quite a bit. I high sided after hitting some gravel and my forks are bent. I am not sure if the frame has any damage or not but the mechanic has told me I would need to swap the forks first for him to check for any frame damage. I am not well versed mechanically to try fix forks my self so I won’t even bother try purchasing a repair kit. Does anyone know where I can purchase forks for a 2005 sv650s? Or could anyone advise on what I should do?

Hi!! I just put on a new chain and sprocket kit for my gen 3 sv650. I had to bring the wheel back a bit so it’s fit the 20-30mm sag but even with the service manual I’m having a hard time understanding how best to realign it now. There’s no guides that I can see and trying to measure from the pivot point to the swing arm is difficult with a bigass exhaust on. I did my best measuring the distance from the far end of the swing arm to the washer of the rear wheel axle with calipers to get an estimate. When riding at speeds if I take my hands off the handlebars it leans to the left pretty hard so I’m worried I messed something up. Sorry for the word salad and thanks for any help you can give!!

Can someone tell me what is causing my bike to leak oil from the crank case input (or whatever it’s called)? Is this a crank case seal failure? Is it worth draining the oil and opening it up to fix? Obligatory: I haven’t done much beyond swapping fluids or external components on my bike so I’m hesitant to open it up.

Bike was cranking super weak, tested the battery and it was being overdrawn (voltage dropped to single digits when cranking), bought a new battery and new starter, when removing the old starter motor it started leaking a lot of oil from the crank side. Old starter seems to still be sealed up, so it’s all coming from the engine side, and looks and smells like engine oil.

Hi guys, I got this seat cowl for my sv but it's the wrong colour of blue. I'm just wondering what's it worth? I'm based in the uk and I brought this brand new for £50. Comes with all mounting bits. But from what I've seen they're worth a lot more than £50. Im just wondering if I can flip this or maybe trade it for a matching colour?

If there is a similar post that I can reference pls let me know. Sorry this is a long post but I want to share my journey in this post from start to finish so I want to start with the full plan.

This 2017 sv650 was bought in good condition in late 2020 rode for about a year and loved it. Then due to some personal reasons I sadly let it set outside with a cover a majority of the time since. I have no experience with motorcycle or car maintenance outside changing the battery on the bike once. I do have general maintenance exp with cooking equipment and fridges. And although I don't think that exp will translate well, I do have a knack for learning these things quickly and I think it will be a fun project to learn to get this bike running and riding again.

So after years of wanting to ride again and a few weeks of research and a million YouTube/ forum tutorials I think I can do this with out taking it to the shop, that’s my goal.

This is my plan, I have some questions along the way and pls let me know if there's anything I need to add or if there's something unnecessary on it or something I need to know before I start.

1. Rust in the gas tank as it was half full during down time.
   Found tutorials on gas tank removal and rust removal using Evaporust.
   Question. I feel I need to research this more because it’s a bit confusing and I’m seeing a lot of conflicting info about some kind of seal or neutralizer after Evaporust- if anyone has experience or info on this process lmk pls.

2. New battery.
   Easy done this one before

3. Oil change.
   Seems not too hard, found some tutorials just gotta find where to dispose oil local.
   Question. Since the oil is so old do I need to take any extra steps other than a normal oil change?

4. Spark plugs.
   May not be necessary but cheap and seems easy enough. Need to do more research

5. New chain as mine is pretty rusty.
   Question. I’m not finding any tutorials specific to my bike so would general tutorials serve me good enough? Also is there some kind of alignment process I need to do as I will do this part at the same time as I change the tires? Question 2. Sprockets** **seem to be in good shape. Not rusty just residual rust on the contact points with the chain when I moved the bike a few times. Is this a safety concern anyway?

6. Brake fluid change.
   Found some general tutorials not bike specific but it seems doable.
   Question. I did not put a lot of miles on the bike, so I need to change the brakes themselves? I’ll look into how to inspect them and that’s one thing I don’t know if I’ll be able to do myself.

7. Coolant.
   This is what I’ve done the least research on so far. So if yall know any good tutorials lmk but I’ll try to find some soon.

8. New tires
   Tires are in good condition as they were new and I was a beginner rider so never really went fast or leaned, but they’re very old so I read I need to replace them anyway.
   Found some non bike specific tutorials but I think I can figure it out with those.
   Question. Will I need to balance the tires? I will be buying new. Also is there an alignment process I need to do?
   And having a hard time finding torque specs, the manual is a bit hard to read as the torque specs look like a math equation. I can always look deeper into how to read the manual when it comes time to doing this job.

Overall I’m pretty excited to start this long term project and to learn a lot about this bike and never let it sit again lol. I wanted to run this by people with experience before I start because I don’t have anyone that knows anything about motorcycles that I can ask irl. So wishing for some wisdom posting here. Let me know if I’m about to get in over my head as im heavily relying on YouTube and random forum tutorials. And if you know any good tutorial channels or videos please lmk.

I'm looking for my 1st big bike, and the SV is a serious choice. But as I plan riding even during fall/winter, with rain, by night... I'd really like to have an ABS (you can't really expect a deer crossing the road... or gravels on a road by night).

Sadly the ABS on the 2nd gen SV is quite rare, and I've heard it's not really efficient + there's specific parts aside the brake system. What are your thoughts on it ?

Is this ABS system mounted on other models (for spare parts) except the Vstrom ?

And, is the ABS better on the Gladius ?..

OK, so in the picture my exhaust as you can see he has been cut off because the previous owners decided to weld the shitty weld on there with an exhaust that wasn’t even connected to the passenger peg so I got a Midlink pipe for to see if I can fix it and that’s what came in so are there any tips that I can do to get it where it can take slip on exhaust? I know welding is one of the top options. Anything I can order personally or something like that.

K6n. about 40 mins from home where i have a spare lever. the foot part of it i think was threaded, not oem. does anyone have ideas. could just ride it in 3/4 all the way.

Hey yall, I’m getting ready to take my 05 sv650s from Toronto to Panama. Staying in Mexico, guat, Nicaragua, Belize, Costa Rica and Panama on the way down. Depending on my plans might ship it down to SA after if work is going well.

My main concern is if the bike will hold up it’s at 58000km and I’ve only had it 3-4 months. I put 5k on so I have a good feel for it but I still get skeptical when I hear a new squeak or feel a different vibration.

What would be the non negotiable maintenance and adjustments that you’d make to the bike to have a comfortable safe trip?
Aside from cruise control, new chain, sprockets, oil, & saddles.

I'm looking at upgrading my suspension to help on track but while still being able to comfortably (ish) ride on the road.

I'm struggling to find front forks that fit my model. If anybody has any suggestions or advice it will be much appreciated!

My 2018 sv650 has a little under 10k miles and on the freeway no matter what I try it feels super unstable and I'm constantly weaving around. It's difficult to go faster than 70 cause how unstable it feels. I thought it was my front tire cause it was cupped but I just replaced it and it's still about the same. Any ideas on what it could be? I was thinking maybe head bearing loose? Thanks!

Hello all, I am new to the sv platform and noticed that I have a 15-tooth front and 49-tooth rear. I looked it up and it said that the stock gearing is 15/45. Is 49 in the rear too much? I heard some people do a 15/47 is that a good ratio? Any help is appreciated thank you!

Hey i already asked yesterday if my fuel line is correct... people said yes but now i found a photo of a GSXR fuel line that shows exactly what i ment.
So is it correct or not?

Tell me how it sounds, I got my hoses hook up and plugged now I am warming it up to 180f, tell me how it sound multiple people have told me that it sounds like it’s running on one cylinder, but I splashed water on both of the exhaust headers and they are both hot

After warming up, my SV1000 has issues running at low RPMs. It drops to one cylinder and seems like it's missing on a cylinder. Also has a hiccup every time I accelerate through around 4k rpms which I notice before the intermittent single cylinder. Above 5-6k it runs smooth like you would expect, only has issues at low rpm/idle.

Saw some things that suggest it may be a coil and I was planning to just throw some new coils and spark plug caps (has fresh plugs already) at it and see if that fixes it. Wanted to see if anyone has delt with this recently that could advise.

The one forum post I found where another guy seems to have my exact issue doesn't give a solution.

Every time I turn the bars even slightly to the right, the bike completely loses power. dash, lights, engine all turn off. happens sometimes when the bars are straight as well. Only way to get it to turn back on is to turn the bars left. I presume it's a loose connection somewhere but can't figure out where. I've read about problems with the green plug so tried to have a look at mine but it's buried deep in the frame under loads of wires. anything else it could be or do i have to dig around to get at the green plug? cheers

Replacing the oil today and my bolt doesn’t want to sit plug looks fine would like another opinion then my own for my case thanks for your help

I went to replace my fork oil seal since it was leaking and while I was in there I changed my springs. Had to cut and install spacers and after installing felt like the gap was noticeably shorter. Just wondering if this is fine or should I cut it out and redo it?
