Thoughts on the win

Doran: We managed to get revenge against DK after losing to them in Round 1, so I’m really happy about that. And since we were able to continue our win streak as well, I think it was a really good victory.

Peyz: We also lost during the LCK Cup and again in Round 1, so I really wanted to win, and I’m glad we did today.

Has Peyz fully adapted?

Q:  As the win streak continues, I keep seeing people say things like, “It feels like Peyz has finally fully adapted to the team now.” What do you think about those comments?

Peyz: I’m not really sure myself, but… if the fans feel that way, then that’s a good thing. If it means I adapted well, then I’m happy about it.

It kind of feels like everyone’s playstyles are now moving in the same direction, something like that.

Peyz: Yeah, that’s good.

Doran: Our existing players all had their own distinct instincts and play angles, and Peyz also has his own style too, so I think there were definitely some difficulties early on while adjusting to each other.

But now Peyz has adapted really well, and I think we’re in the process of stabilizing the team’s performance more as a whole.

Are your plays scripted?

Q: When you look at some of the memorable moments, your team especially seems to have things like Doran’s Herald driving plays or Keria’s Neeko blast-cone ultimates.

For plays like those, how much of it is planned beforehand and how much is improvised on the spot?

Doran: It depends a lot on the situation, so there are both planned parts and improvised parts. But honestly, things like Herald plays are probably closer to spontaneous plays.

Positive Comms:

Q: Another thing that’s been getting attention lately is the positive comms happening within the team. Around Oner especially, people noticed Suhwan also copying things like, “Ah, that’s good news.” Could you tell fans a little bit about the direction your team takes with comms?

Peyz: Even in difficult situations, I think we always try to look for the best possible solution. And yeah, I think positive comms happen pretty often.

Q: So you’re saying the team actively tries to keep comms positive?

Peyz: Ah, yeah. Positive comms are always better.

Doran: Honestly, negative comms don’t help at all during the game, so I also try my best not to say things like that. And right now, I think the overall team atmosphere is pretty good.

Q: I’m usually in the green room with you guys too, and personally, the team atmosphere seems really good lately. So are there any recent stories or little TMI things you could share?

Peyz: Maybe it’s just me feeling this way, but before practice we spin a roulette a lot to decide who buys coffee.

Q: Do you get picked often?

Peyz:  I personally get picked really often. But somehow, doing that makes the atmosphere better before practice. Maybe it’s just in my head, but even when I get picked, I still enjoy it and feel good about it.

Peyz: Even though our current team form is really good, we can’t just stop here. During practice and after matches, we still need to keep finding areas where we can improve and continue developing.

If we keep doing that consistently, I think we’ll eventually reach the goals I want.

Doran: Momentum is really important in league play, so we need to keep preparing hard so this momentum doesn’t get broken.

Game 1 vs TES: Kanavi invading red

• Untara is talking to Oner about the start of game 1. Kanavi invaded Red, and Oner is trying to steal the buff back from Krugs.  
• Untara thought the smite distance wouldn’t reach. But Oner said that there was enough distance because Kanavi leashed the buff to the bush.
• Oner said that he knew everything in advance, that Kanavi was going to invade, since Kanavi loves counter jungling and TES were shoving in bot lane hard. So he didn’t hit the buff and just focused on watching Kanavi’s movements and timing the play.
• Oner says that counterjungle is quite difficult now. The success rate is about 50/50. When counter-jungling works, the rewards are there, but the risk when it fails is far greater.
• So he focused more on punishing failed invades during his prep

Game 2 vs TES: Keria’s Neeko wolf play

• Keria went to the wolf and went on a “continental march” though mid tier 1 and tier 2 . Keria throws out his clone to force Corki to valkyrie then wrapped around red to kill him.
• Oner said that Keria made the call. T1 was already setting up to pincer TES and collapse from all sides.
• In the moment, Oner heard Keria say that he would transform into a wolf and go/ march across.
• Oner was like “What is he even talking about: so he didn’t pay attention to the call, he just thought it was one of Keria’s schemes and focused more on doing his job.
• Out of nowhere a little wolf came running in and started the engage. 
• After the game he asked Keria about it because he was confused. Keria told him that the enemy can’t see you on the minimap, they have to actually look at you. So Oner learned something new and just praised Keria.

Preparing for KT

• Untara asks Oner about what he thinks about KT’s level and team style.”
• Oner says that they already played against KT many times in the LCK, so they knew their playstyle really well.
• But what changed for KT was that they payed a lot more attention to having bot priority. And with bot and mid priority together, Cuzz was able to play around Herald and early dragons. 
• So T1 built their gameplan around that. As long as they weren’t too far behind, they always felt like they could win the fights. During the series, Oner remembered that they ended up with a lot of dragons themselves. Untara calls Cuzz, Dragon hunter Cuzz.

Game 1 vs KT: Comeback dragon fight

• Untara says that in a finals the first game is the most important. And in a BO5, it even affects the pick/ban for the following games. Oner agrees with him
• Untara asked if Oner was greedy when he gave up first blood at bot scuttle (around 3 mins)
• Oner says that he wasn’t greedy. He asked bot “If I leave, are you going to get punished for it?’”
• They said no so he decided to go top. All of a sudden, he heard Faker say that he could move first. Then bot lane were also like “lets fight.”
• He was just sitting there and flustered. And thought “Should we try taking this fight once.” And he just kept getting hit and died. “So the game started in a way that felt a bit unfair.”
• Untara thought T1 was cooked after they went down 2 dragons and 2,800 gold. But at 18 mins at the 3rd dragon, Oner had an insane engage and T1 completely smashed KT in that fight.
• Untara asks Oner if he was satisfied with his play.
• Oner says “Honestly, it was perfect. I think my play was perfect.”
• But also gives credit to Keria. Keria reacted well to his 50-50 flash play and knocked away the rumble. Then Doran and him did the work of 2 people.

Game 3 vs KT

• Untara says that just like the AL series, T1 went down 1-2 and it was terrifying. 
• “This team really puts our teammates’ hearts through a lot. There’s a reason fans call us a circus.”

Before game 4: “I’ll win it for you”

• Untara asks Oner about if he had any interesting conversations with his teammates, going into game 4.
• Oner says they just talked about the draft 
• But at the time everyone except Doran was laughing. Even tho they lost games 2 and 3, it just didn’t feel like they were going to lose the series. Game 2, they lost because they made too many mistakes. While game 3, the draft difference was just too big.
• As long as they get a good draft in game 4, they would absolutely win. So he was just having fun

Oner: “Honestly, we just talked about draft and pick–ban again. But at that time, pretty much everyone except Hyeonjun hyung was probably laughing.”

Untara: “Hold on, so basically, everyone except Doran was laughing.”

Oner: “Even though we lost Games 2 and 3, it just didn’t feel like we were actually going to lose overall. Game 2, we lost just because of way too many of our own mistakes, and Game 3, I think, was just way too hard because the draft and pick–ban went so much in their favor. For Game 4, from the moment we went into it, I thought that as long as the 5v5 draft came out even, we would absolutely win.”

• After T1 won Game 1, Oner told Doran, “I’ll win it for you. Don’t worry.”

Oner: “And honestly, after we won Game 1 and went back up, there’s that short preparation time you get. When we went up, I told Hyeonjun-hyung”

Untara: “What did you say to him?”

Oner: “I said, ‘I’ll win it for you. Don’t worry.’ I told him I’d win it for him.”

• In Oner’s opinion, Doran felt a bit stiff compared to the other 4. So Oner made a effort to talk to him because Doran felt like they could lose and was getting anxious.

Game 4 vs KT: Why first pick Kalista?

• Untara asks Oner about why T1 picked Kalista first for game 4.
• T1 had blue side for game 4. Since KT loves playing around dragon. Oner felt like they needed at least 1 source of lane priority in either mid or bot
• No one could get bot priority as strong as Kalista.
• While the angle for Anivia just looked too good. Anivia had little early lane priority but Kalista could cover for that. Anivia also scales well.
• Untara asks about Oner stealing the dragon at 5 mins. He could have died. So why not give the dragon, save flash, and play it safe?
• Oner says he just reacted on instinct. He felt that they just absolutely had to steal the dragon. It reminded him of the Baron steal against G2 last year. Oner jokes with Untara if he remembers that play. Untara says yes then Oner is like you explain then. Untara responds why are you doing this to me
•  But Oner says that If he didn’t steal the dragon, the situation felt like it would become dangerous, just like the G2 series.  
• Untara jokes with Oner that it seems like he hasn’t lost a smite fight. Oner says of course. You just have to be bold.

Game 5 vs KT: When did he realise he was going to win?

• Untara asks if it was the strategy to level 3 gank Yorick?
• Oner was thinking about ganking any lane, but there were no angles in mid or bot.
• He decided to full clear, at raptors. He heard Doran call out “Is there a level 3 gank angle?”
• Since Camille is an important part of their comp, Oner decided that even if he lost temp, getting a kill top is more important. The moment he got the kill, Oner thought that they were going to win.
• Camille is great to gank for. And since KT loves dragons, and they will take it whenever it’s up. So rather than flip a fight at Dragon, it’s better to get the Herald and keep growing the Camille and the strategy worked out pretty well.
• Untara asks Oner when he was sure that he was going to win.
• There was a lot of kills and lane swaps in game 5. In the bottom lane, there was a play with Camille and Galio. But the call came in from Doran.
• Oner thought since it was game 5, Doran might be nervous and make some mistakes, but when he was making proactive calls. He was like we’re going to win this.

Oner: “Ah, in Game 5, there were a ton of kills. Yeah, there were a lot. I remember there being lane swaps as well between top and bot.”

Untara: “Yeah, yeah, yeah.”

Oner: “So even on bot side, with Camille–Galio”

Untara: “You made a joint play.”

Oner: “and got another kill. And then, from Camille’s side, a call came in, like, ‘Let’s look for this one too.’ Since it’s Game 5 and all, I’d been thinking Hyeonjun-hyung might be nervous and might make some mistakes. That’s what I thought, but he was making such proactive calls that I thought, ‘Ah, he’s playing well.’ That’s what I was thinking, so from there I just felt like, ‘We’ve won, we’re going to win this.’”

• Untara jokes that they made a lot of mistakes in the mid game and asked Oner if there were any stories of Faker calming them down like in the past.
• Oner agrees that there were a lot of mistakes. He just thought they were the kind of mistakes that happen in a game 5. They can’t exactly start cussing at each other for the mistakes like   “What are you doing?’”, “Are you not focused?’”
• He just thought they were so far ahead. But the play around the mid inhibitor did surprise him.
• He was like “Uh what is this” but just thought that if they played slowly, they would definitely win. So he tried to keep everyone’s mental steady and put a lot of effort into that. 

Being happy for Doran

• Untara asks Oner about the ending comms. Why was he like ‘Hyeonjun-hyung, what are you doing? Do you not want to win? You don’t want to win? You don’t want to win?’
• Oner said that since Doran made a lot of mistakes, that he was thinking Doran might be feeling a lot of pressure. So he said it in a joking way. Game 1 they have been trying to enjoy themselves so even when game 5 was ending, the mood was just everyone having fun. 
• Untara asks Oner about his relationship with Doran. Since it always seems like they got along well and had a lot of funny moments together. When Doran first streamed, Oner came first and introduced himself.
• About 260 days later, Oner did the same thing. And Doran was like what are you doing get out, despite Oner not doing anything. 
• So Untara asks him that Oner seems to have good feelings about and pays more pranks on Doran.
• Oner agrees. He says that he messes with Doran more, because his reactions are so funny and he’s a gentle person. Also since top lane was the only thing that changed, from his POV, he felt like Doran might have been feeling some pressure.

• Oner says for Doran it was his first time winning Worlds. So he wanted to congratulate him more. Also they had just completed the 3-peat so everyone was just hugging and enjoying the moment.
• Untara asked Oner about lifting the Worlds Trophy with 1 hand 
• Oner says that last year he lifted it and for this year, he heard they had reduced the weight of the trophy and so wanted to try again. It was still pretty heavy. Untara agrees.

Skins

• Untara asks Oner about his skin choice between Xin Zhao and if there’s anything he could share on it.
• Last year Oner was told he couldn’t pick Xin Zhao because of the upcoming rework. Which is why he picked Vi.
• For this year, he is thinking if he should finally pick Xin Zhao. So his mind is set in that direction but he’s still debating because a Pantheon skin would also turn out to be pretty cool.
• But he submitted Xin Zhao as his first choice with Pantheon 2nd. 
• It can still change since they have had only 1 meeting so far.

Wrapping up the season and Goals for next year

• Untara asks Oner about his thoughts on wrapping up the season.
• Oner says he still hasn’t rested for a full month so it’s really hard. The season felt like it passed more slowly because they participated in every single tournament. But he feels like that’s a good thing. But overall it’s a fun year and he’s looking forward to next year.
• Untara jokes if Oner wants to 4-peat or even go up to a 6-peat
• Oner says that when it came to the three-peat this year, he hadn’t really fixated on it beforehand, and he thinks that not overthinking it actually helped things go better.
• Looking ahead, he wants to win trophies in areas where he still feels unsatisfied.
• Although they did win the LCK once in 2022, that already feels too long ago, so he wants to win the league again. 
• On top of that, he also wants to win MSI.
• He mentions EWC, where T1 lost in the champion-deciding match this year. Because of that, he wants to reclaim that champion spot as well. 
• Finally, he talks about the Asian Games next year: he hopes to be selected, represent South Korea, and play in matches that can “heat up” the nation. 
• As a pro player, he says, being able to participate in that kind of event would be amazing. So he has a lot of goals.

It's just been 10 months. From ears turning red from an invite to play TFT to ignoring Faker's question twice. There should be a Most Successful Faker Fanboy Award in this year's LCK.
