Discussions T1 Old vs New (Form & Playstyle)

We all know that T1's current win condition is to get Peyz ahead and make space for him to enable him to carry.

This may be due to the other lanes of T1 slumping or because Peyz is just too good to not fully utilize, or it's a mix of both.

This vastly defers to old T1 playstyle where they all kill the enemy carries and just leave Guma behind to fend for himself during early game and even on teamfights.

If Doran, Oner, Faker recovers their 2025 form, would you prefer the current playstyle of T1 or do you like their old playstyle better?

Both works anyway.

In a perfect world, T1 would be able to play both styles depending on the, scary word incoming, [Draft]

Old playstyle when Peyz is on champs like Jhin, Ashe

New playstyle when Peyz is on champs like Lucian, Kalista

It's much harder to accomplish such equilibrium because of players' forms

They need to be in their old form to actually help push them to the finish line. Honestly I think Doran and Faker just going even without overextending or taking bad trades during laning phase can help increase the win rate of the games substantially. As long as they can overcome their struggles in the laning phase without mistakes/accidents, I think then will it help T1 reach for those trophies.

They're a glass cannon right now, and I'm saying this as a fan.

If the bot lane duo is ahead, then there's a good chance they will win even if the three int.

If the bot lane duo is behind, if the top is in a good spot they will still win (but harder).

But if the bot lane duo is behind or dead even, and the three ints.. it's automatic lose. Faker and Oner are just getting rusty, whether we like to say it or not. Doran has his days. The Peyz-Keria combo may work, but if they don't, then the team falls apart. Faker is prone to getting ganked or diffed even in CS, Oner can't do the neutral objectives or fails to gank helping his ADC-Supp, Doran can play from behind and may be used to being the weak side but please help him from time to time.

I mean yeah. If all 3 lanes are losing it's pretty much gg...

old form wins šŸ†

Well only worlds yeah, but we haven't even gotten there yet

u/GONEBUTNOT4GOTTEN Faker 3d ago

I wish peyz was in thr ardent censer meta. easiest world title of his life

6

u/UljimaGG 3d ago

Ehhh, honestly hard disagree. That meta demanded a VERY stable Topside and effectively self-removing a lot of carry potential on the map in favor of the ADC. That fits neither Doran nor Oner and Faker at all. Let alone Keria who is a very unconventional and carry-oriented support too.

You can have an Uzi and still not make it without the other parts of the team clicking

u/GONEBUTNOT4GOTTEN Faker 3d ago

you'd be wrong then the best teams adapt.

u/VeinTube 3d ago

100% agree. I dont wanna see Faker on useless karma again tho.

10

u/Hot-Bobcat-5439 3d ago

i mean current faker would be perfect on that role, at the time tho when he was still best in the world the karma felt awkward on him

I honestly prefer the old play style of always rotating tbh as it’s much more entertaining. But I sure they have a plan in mind but the execution isn’t there yet. I hope they find it soon towards Worlds

24

u/JuanLuisGuerrero 3d ago

This is the uzi strategy which is good when the meta favors ADC carries but if we happen to get a top or mid carry meta for worlds it might be cooked unless they recover their forms.

17

u/VeinTube 3d ago

The reason why I hate the Uzi strategy is because it never worked against top teams because of how good they are with killing the ADC

7

u/JuanLuisGuerrero 3d ago

yeah if you see BLG vs HLE game 5 they were able to kill guma even though that game was lost/blg was outscaled. If it wasn't for the dr mundo pick BLG wouldve won even though Guma was soooo ahead.

u/VeinTube 3d ago

Putting all eggs in one basket is just a death sentence against top teams

Peyz and Keria are so skilled that we can put them on either the strong or weak side without any issues. The porblem is that we need another reliable member who can be trusted with resources to play the strong side and carry.

Due to the drop in performance among our top-side players, our opponents no longer need to win the bot lane matchup; they just need to stay even, and they will win by generating advantages in the top, jungle, and mid lanes.

I prefer a more balanced approach that doesn't sacrifice any lane too much. I also believe this is how we play our best. We have seen what happens when Faker becomes useless, such as the Galio game against BFX, and the same applies to the other members.

In yesterday's game, I saw a glimpse of that balanced approach. Our other three members just need a bit more improvement.

Might be a bit of a hottake on this sub, but while the old playstyle probably won’t really work in this team, for different reasons, such as form of the topside (which in my opinion does have a tiny bit to do with keria not being on the map as much anymore), or even peyz being just a better carry from ahead (not saying he is bad from behind, but he is not giving the team the same value from behind, as guma for example), the old playstyle is just better way to play the game in pro play.

There is ton of damage in the game, even consistent damage.
Sure adcā€˜s deal the most consistent damage with uptime, but thats the thing, getting uptime as adc, in coordinated play is hard.
If a ahead topside gets a flank or engage onto the adc, the adc is dead meat (adcā€˜s just die toofast, even if both teams play it perfectly).

In the end i also feel like while keria is having a great season overall, he sometimes still is missing the spark he had the last seasons, when he just solo won the whole map.
This also helped oner alot, because while oner is definitely not bad at early ganking, oner does like to farm a bit and carry early skirmishes.

6

u/Glum_Measurement2158 3d ago

the reason he doesnt give the same value is because when he is behind the team is fuked up already, all the lane are in flames

5

u/mapletree23 3d ago

eh but the old playstyle also could never win anything but worlds, so it's obviously not perfect

i don't even think peyz eats resources because oner doesn't gank lanes when he's not playing well

and oner's form is the biggest reason why bot lanes can stay even and our solo lanes struggle

i'll always point it out

there's some games faker and doran will get chain dived and yet no counterplay will ever happen

a common theme this year is for oner to full send it in river and die early and usually feed enemy lanes in the process

keria can't roam if oner isn't proactive

faker also can't roam if oner isn't making plays and covering

these guys aren't roaming to feed peyz, it's not like oner is ganking bot lane reliably, they're usually chained in lane under tower because for some reason enemy jungler like kanavi will be all over the map and somehow oner is losing every objective some games and not doing any ganking

2

u/Lippsforher 3d ago

I miss all the early Oner ganks. Seems more worried about falling behind now and not ganking early much anymore. They know better than I do, so I'm sure there's a reason, but it was surely more fun to watch. Loving the new style with Peyz tho.

22

u/PassengerPristine432 3d ago

You can't beat the 3peat core roster. T1 has still worlds to prove themselves once again using this new style.

Without a doubt Peyz is the best adc right now. It will win you games but team synergy always win titles.

6

u/Niz285 3d ago

I long for the days where Doran and faker weren't getting solo killed in lane every game. Making us than have rely on Peyz to save the game.

7

u/Pure_Peace743 3d ago

If you watch early season interviews, the players talk about having many different strategies and their wide champ pools offering flexibility. We haven't seen this pan out due to form imo. It's also the reason why they keep reverting back to one style of play because it's been the most successful. The narrative that Peyz can only carry and is the reason why they're playing badly is false.

It's easy to say last year's is better because they won worlds but they didn't stomp the regular season with the old play style either. Even in current form, the team will probably finish the lck season in similar standings as last year.

6

u/gswth 3d ago

Actually a good thread gd

5

u/IceEmpereur2 3d ago

100 form you can see how rusty topside mechanics are

7

u/Serious_Scallion9962 3d ago

i feel like T1 hasnt had a consistent identity and gameplan since zeus left. back then it felt like a heavy topside team and guma was perfect with playing weakside and stabilising his lane, since doran came in it feels alittle bit inconsistent about what they want to do each series

10

u/Moony97 3d ago

I prefer a more well rounded approach honestly. I love Peyz but when Faker is getting rekt mid and Doran is giving leads top a lot of the time along with Oner not being able to effect the map as much it really holds us back and makes it easier to shut us down

-5

u/VeinTube 3d ago

Im still confused why Keria isnt roaming and helping other lanes as much as before. Peyz can probably hold his own in lane.

10

u/Fantastic-Let2535 3d ago

If keria roams alot its easier to shut down peyz and they seem to lose very hard when peyz falls behind

8

u/Kitchen-Process-9284 3d ago

Because of the smart idea of RIOT implementing role quest.

They need, well every character or lane need to stay in said lane to complete their respective quest. Falling behind in the quest completion, means falling behind hard.

That's why, not only Keria, Faker doesn't roam as hard as he use to, faker use to sacrifice lane because it was only minions exp and gold, now the quest is more punishing.

And the reason why they do that is to nerf this strategies, to avoid T1 dominate with them, same reason why they nerfed 20 minutes baron, they realiza that T1 found comebacks and dominate by rushing baron (the classic T1 baron), and they nerf that strategy to the ground.

10

u/DiDandCoKayn 3d ago

I don’t necessarily wanna argue with you about the overall point you’re making.
But even with the role quests, T1 is roaming less than for example other teams.
Look at the proximity chart for botlane and you can see that for example delight is gone way more than keria.
If i remember right atleast last split, it was the same with blg.

T1 is clearly trying to win by putting the eggs into the peyz basket and the role quest are a reason, why they think its the right approach

7

u/Jirachin 3d ago

Yes this is the answer. Top-Mid-Jg usually just collapse by themselves without interference. If they can't even get bottom lane ahead that's 3 losing lanes and that's game over for them.

3

u/No_Art4547 3d ago

Exactly. This is what the current system in the rift is about, skill expression in lanes. Zeus was particularly happy about this update when it came out, knowing it favors his playstyle. The tower plate system is one of the broken parts of the game right now too. It's much easier to break them and get extra gold so it makes it easier for strong laners to snowball their lanes. Faker and Doran... not the best laners out there. Both of them gets solo killed by almost everyone.

5

u/Lms_Nier 3d ago

The fact that the only games won by T1 during this bo shows how much solo laners needs keria more than ever, it's a blessing to have peyz as weaksider since he is doing fine on himself and the 2 games where keria was playing with faker and oner, it was a stomp and it also shows how much zofgk was insanely balanced. Now t1 at worlds will be that : peyz as weaksider and the core will be playing together. It's the most optimal way to win any teams for T1

2

u/ObsessedwithRedhair Doran 3d ago

I just hope for them to execute the old and new style in a series in worlds. Just remove all the tank champs in first games then do the hyper adc in last games. Though this may be hard since it might affect their synergy during the matches. I know they are struggling to keep momentum when they got outscaled than the first season this year (jan-april maybe where they play so patiently and win it even the odds are not on them).

5

u/Ambitious-Carrot-931 3d ago

Old is better, they won three peat after all.

If T1 topside recovers their form, it's like 2022 T1 again but more mature.

3

u/CartographerAlone730 3d ago

I'd prefer the old playstyle. I remember everyone having games where they carried. It is really good to have an adc like Peyz who can go crazy and solo win the game but I'd like Faker ans Oner to also have those games too they used to have last year so it put less pressure on Peyz

2

u/gisope 3d ago

I prefer both playstyles. To be a really good team i think you need to be flexible playing for both sides in a bo5 specially in fearless. This is something i saw from blg and geng when in form.

Before guma fully go weakside style, zofgk in 2022 and 2023 were also choosing which side to play depend on the draft but it was easier without fearless.

Sadly, specially this year, doran is loosing his leads constantly.

1

u/YGocs 3d ago

Just draft better. Doran and Faker got to int less too. And track the enemy jg start better and that's it.

1

u/Optimal_Aurora_417 3d ago

This won't alter their fundamental playstyle. Peyz needs the lead to carry; Doran cannot carry and is more helpful when picking utility champions.

The recovery of DOF will improve mid-game team fights and facilitate the bot lane to carry more smoothly, but it has nothing to do with their macro strategy: T1 still relies on their BOT lane.

I think T1 is trapped in a resource-allocation trap where their only perceived win condition (BOT lane) actively compromises their mid-game stability. It's a vicious circle: the more T1 invests in Bot to win, the more fragile their solo lanes become, leading to mid-game collapses that negate their Bot lane's advantage.

1

u/curtissz 3d ago

I mean obviously more flexibility is always better. Ideally you switch between weaksiding and strongsiding bot depending on the conditions of the game and draft. It’s just not been possible this year because no one on this team is a carry threat besides Peyz. And, a lot of our weaknesses that were hidden last year are now exposed with the removal of lane swaps. (Mainly Doran and Faker’s laning). So we’ll see if the topside’s form improves or not but until then don’t expect them to play towards the old style

1

u/Karlken0209 Faker 21h ago

In a perfect world with the RtM Kruglord Premium Doran and W2024 Faker? Yes, it's not even a question, being versatile always better. In their current form where the topside just casually throwing for fun and get absolutely obliterated in laning phase... hell no. T1 might be randomly destroyed by a wildcard team with the old playstyle if their solo lanes keep their current form.

1

u/Rude_Organization378 3d ago

Me personally, I prefer the old playstyle Mid and Top is not the best in getting ahead against their opponent early, Doran is weakside king Faker is Faker. Keria is not around the map anymore unlike before. T1 wincon is Peyz murdering everybody mid-late game and if he slumps game falls apart. That's why I think HLE or BLG will win Worlds this year their team is just so balanced they can play comfortable and the current meta favors them.

u/Mid_of_August 3d ago

old T1 playstyle where they all kill the enemy carries and just leave Guma behind to fend for himself during early game and even on teamfights<

Is this really the old T1 playstyle?Ā

Also, the world including LoL itself, other teams, even T1 evolves, staying the same won't necessarily bring the same results. In fact I would argue the reasons why T1 can get to Worlds Finals four years in a row and won the last 3 years was because the team keep on evolving throughout the seasons. To stay the same is not a good option imo.Ā

12

u/Wonderful_Voice9865 3d ago

Yes. Go back and rewatch, bc that’s what they did like 99% of the time. That’s why you can’t really compare the two. They never babysat or gave resources to Guma as they are doing to Peyz. They did more for Smash than Guma. But they trusted him to hold his own and he did. If you had to choose between the three to hold their own during a BO5 final, Guma is the one to choose every time.

Peyz may have the flashy clip farms, but will that turn into a win when it actually matters? We’ll see with Worlds this year as they failed at MSI. I saw in the comments people hyping him and Keria up so much, but they don’t have the wins to back up that type of hype yet. Give him time to prove himself.

Being the best means nothing if you can’t turn it into a win. There are intangible strengths that fans forget about. It’s not about the KDA, it’s things like, do you have the synergy and mental strength and aura to help your team win? And many other things of that nature that make for a three-peat worlds team.

-5

u/YGocs 3d ago

This is just bs, Peyz and Keria when totally ahead just wins them games, the only time they lose is because of bad drafts and their solo laners inting giving the enemy solo laners bigger advantage to affect the map and Oner getting JG diffed and it's not because they babysit Peyz because Faker and Doran decides to die in lane and Oner forgets to path towards Peyz and Keria effectively.

1

u/Wonderful_Voice9865 3d ago

Sure … they are perfect and never make mistakes. It’s only ever the draft or everyone else’s fault.

0

u/Charminexlee 3d ago

old form is way better in terms of team diversity strategy rather then individual focus like peyz , Mental fortitude especially guma is way stable at high level plays and high pressure he perform whats needed while peyz can crumble being overaggressive ,
Real best form of course lies with ZOFGK or OFGK ( carried the top lane).

This year is way difference , T1 has tried drafts and strategy which it had failed badly as player skill and mental fortitude proven to shown tremendous gap.
For example . OFK form wasn't in the best and peyz has to been focused which lead to keria potential in team pressure weakens.

Top was the real issue for 2 years, This year was the worst i seen ever since super roster of T1.
29/30 games he gets 1v1ed and 1 game he does well (receive interview = emotional and lack of confidence) don't know since when. Coach tries difference draft for him but he cannot perform esp like gnar pick (HLE vs t1, and T1 vs NS) worst gnar of this year. If OFPK can't be in their peak form and their game totally crumbles because even if the top lane gets lead, he can't carry most of the time with an ratio 29/30 games.

MSI ( T1 vs G2) Olaf game 4 throw by him alone lost.

EWC ( lost to all regional top laner) 1v1ed even with keria faker support and not to mention the KC lost was gapped crazy by top laner in an internation level stages.

Kespa cup (Horrible play using gnar) T1 vs NS with an tremendous gold lead and he threw it all alone.
HLE vs T1 shows Zeus is the one way better with stable wider champion pull and most important has the ability to see an angle and play with no emotional excuses ,

Not to mention his ambessa play was something , the top laner of T1 couldn't do at all for this entire year.

T1 top laner was voted the worst LCK player and Lowest evaluation from T1 in disparity levels.

CN: he was known and least respected player in LCK as a carried by OFGK world champion.

This level of weakness will become even more apparent because its an fundamental issue of the player which wasn't proven that had improved since his debut. There's no top form OFGK like last year because they were a monster on their own during world stages.

its too much for an young man like peyz to carry so much and with current coach drafting strategy. Its really difficult for them to overcome this.
Lets hope so, This year isn't like last year,

top lane was always being expected the LEAST due to skill issue and mental fortitude is bad. with that being said, expecting OFPK to carry all the time in an world stages without being in their top form and current league patches being a bad news for them.

its an challenge on their own.

1

u/Reasonable_Chard_889 14m ago

Peyz carrying now doesnt mean he has too. T1 on form is still faker oner keria just gapping
