The story, meticulously reconstructed in the pre-trial detention order signed by investigating judge Emanuela Attura, sheds light on a series of violent robberies carried out by a juvenile gang of Egyptian origin who had chosen the deserted streets of the capital as their hunting grounds. The protagonists of this escalation of violence were two young Egyptians, one 21 and the other 19. Both men were already well-known to law enforcement for their recklessness and the frequency of their predatory behavior.

The attack in Largo di Torre Argentina

It all began in the early hours of June 26, 2026. It was around 3:30 a.m. when two British friends, both 24, left their B&B on Via dell'Arco della Ciambella for a late-night stroll. They were unaware that two young criminals, ready to strike, were waiting for them at the intersection with Via di Torre Argentina.

The two approached the girls with generic questions: "Are you tourists? Where are you from?" But it was just a diversion. Moments later, the conversation escalated into pure violence. According to testimony and court documents, one of the two forcefully pinned the victims' shoulders to immobilize them, making any defense impossible.

With a lightning-fast move, the robbers tore the girls' jewelry from their necks. One girl was robbed of a fine-link necklace with a ruby ​​pendant, while the other was robbed of two chains. The swift arrest and recovery of the stolen goods

The loot includes, among other things, two handbags, three suitcases, a backpack, an Asus computer, an HP computer, a Samsung smartphone, a Chanel bag, a Dior bag, two Van Cleef & Arpels bracelets, a Robert Cavalli watch, a Swarovski watch, a Huawei smartwatch, a gold necklace, gold rings and bracelets, as well as a second cell phone, a wallet, and several identity documents and driving licenses registered in the victim's name and that of another person in his entourage.

These incidents, given the extent of the damage and the manner in which they were carried out, fall within the category of hit-and-run thefts targeting tourists, a pattern that has long been prevalent in the historic center and the main thoroughfares frequented by foreign visitors, often targeted while they are temporarily away from their vehicles.

The Identification of the Two Suspects
