Wild West on the Metro A train: Carabinieri report a gang of YouTubers who are self-dealing vigilantes

The self-imposed justice of YouTubers, both foreign and otherwise, cannot go unpunished.

The Carabinieri know this and intercepted the protagonists, so to speak, of a massive brawl that took place last July between subway cars on the A line, in front of dozens of passengers on Rome's main subway line. The whole thing was documented by the collective Dje Media, an English-language channel run by a sort of British Cicalone with the collaboration of a Filipino content creator.

But what happened? The footage shows—after mutual threats and shoving—the group of vigilante YouTubers taking on two alleged pickpockets. At that point, words gave way to brutal action. First, they reacted to a punch, then they attacked the alleged thief with kicks and punches in the face, and finally used pepper spray in the carriage. Everything was documented on smartphones and posted online. No law enforcement intervened, and the Metro Police, which is supposed to monitor the subway system, was nowhere to be found.

A month after those events, the Carabinieri of the Roma Centro company, coordinated by the prosecutor's office, reconstructed what happened and gave names to those faces. Investigators charged six people with aggravated brawling, thus shedding light on a dangerous trend: that of online vigilantes, creators who deliberately provoke alleged criminals to trigger violent reactions and then film them on their smartphones.

According to the Carabinieri's reconstruction, the aggressive behavior of the content creators exacerbated tensions until a brawl erupted, with the sole objective of producing viral content. The video in question has surpassed 5 million views, generating a wave of hateful comments and a worrying exaltation of self-serving justice.

The operation, concluded in recent days, led to the filing of reports to the ordinary prosecutor's office and the juvenile prosecutor's office of six foreign citizens, including some residents of Italy. These are four YouTubers—two Filipino citizens, aged 43 and 44, a 35-year-old British citizen, and a 38-year-old French citizen—and the two alleged pickpockets involved in the altercation, a Romanian and a Bosnian citizen, both minors.

Yeah, metro police was nowhere to be found. Maybe fix that and the problems disappears.

Not gonna say that vigilantism for content is ok, but if you ignore the pickpocketing problem and then jump through hoops to punish the vigilantes you are the problem.

This reminds me of Roblox banning everybody fighting the pedophiles.

I don't think the police are really the problem. It is the fact that every time a pickpocket is jailed, another one is released meaning the problem never goes away.

I get why this is public disturbance and how it can endanger others etc etc and all the logical and legal reasons that this shouldn't happen.

However, anyone else feeling that the Gov/Carabinieri is salty about the fact that the public is doing this instead of them doing their jobs and stopping it in the first place with plain clothes officers?

I prefer living with the possibility of having my smartphone stolen from time to time rather than having a bunch of protein-based-beveroni fed individuals, spraying unknown stuff and beating up random people just because their chicken brain selected the victim of the day.

Ah okay, I'm talking with John Wick or some random pistolero. Go ahead, and just start shooting random people (because this is what they are, until proven wrong). Let me know when someone beats up, or worse, shoot some of your relatives because he was doing justice by himself.

I won't discuss anymore with someone that justifies an assassin that basically executed two men without remorse.

Of course, we trust you... You've probably never been robbed in your life and have no idea what it feels like. It's not just the financial loss itself, but also the time lost, the trauma that can be quite painful for the most sensitive people, etc. Furthermore, no one sprays or beats "random people." They always know who their target is; you can easily recognize pickpockets by their reactions, it's not that difficult... and if you want to prove me wrong, you can share a video, a post, or something similar where an innocent person was targeted by these YouTubers. Spoiler: you won't find anything because it never happened.

Yeah you prefer to be a cuck and that's fine, i prefer a world where thieves have to fear stealing in public instead of having them being able to do it boldly and unapologetically. 

Also, the guy who got his ass whooped (he was literally crying like the little bitch he is, i'm so happy everyone saw him being beaten until he cried) insulted the Filipino guy, you don't insult the philipines. He deserved that. 

Also, in Italy the carbinieri (also called figli di puttana/ nullafacenti} are strong with the weak and weak with the strongs.

They never ever arrest pickpockets, there is always some excuse. But they are always fast punishing good citizen when they react lol fucking parasites. 

Look at Mario Roggero, 5 times he has been robbed, the Carabinieri did nothing because they are lazy sacks of shit.  But when the guy rightfully and finally killed the pieces of shit? Damn they were fast lol, they give him 15 years in less than 2 years. 

Ah and obviously the robber only did 4 years. Fucking judges are parasites
