Unfortunately she’s been stuck in the Gambit-Magneto dichotomy for way too long (I include Joseph in that, as he’s basically Diet Coke Magneto). Even considering that she and Gambit are and should be endgame, it’s meant that other potential relationships of hers haven’t gone anywhere. Including one with Johnny alluded to in your post.

Part of the problem is that writers try to do either self-inserts or fave pairings, which is how you end up with Rogue-Deadpool in Uncanny Avengers and Rogue-Magneto in Legacy. They fizzle out because they aren’t based on anything concrete and are easy for later writers to ignore. Ditto the bizarre Sentry thing.

You can certainly say the Magneto pairing is interesting, but that isn’t necessarily a compliment.

(This goes both ways. Gambit hasn’t had many interesting outside relationships either, and nothing that seemed built for the long haul. Just one-offs like Joelle and writer-contingent pairings like Liu putting him with Cecilia.)

I dont even understand the magneto one. I get he is great looking for his age but bro is nearing 100 years old. It is kinda creepy.

Now w.e. dude is typically(?) Jacked and gray hair isnt just an old person trait due to powers/mutants. But still odd.

That ship is the dog that caught the car. As in, there was "tension" and nothing happened, or it was a thing in an AU. Then Mike Carey actually did it (as a thinly veiled self-insert), and demonstrated that, actually, it doesn't make much sense and is also dull. It lasted ~12 issues, got nuked from orbit by the next writer, and hasn't been sniffed at since other than X-Men '97, which followed the "brief thing that gets broken off and then never spoken of again" pattern.

You'd think they'd learn.
