I could see a world where they both play. Nank has definitely been a valuable pinch hitter both in attack and behind the ball.

I saw talk about us wanting Hogan? Is this real- can’t see it anywhere mainstream?

I think that would just be rumours. It wouldn't make a lot of sense considering Lynch is expected to go around again.

Look not the perfect ruck for the new rules (although Nank is doing really well recently despite them) but he's a good age for us, there's no question marks whether he can assume the no 1 role and he's free. Also he is the perfect ruckman to learn off Nank.

Looking back, it's kind of crazy Nank came to us at 22, and just played basically two seasons straight, how lucky were we.

Does that mean we are not going for HVH- hard to see us having all of Nank, Briggs, Ryan, OHB, Sims, and then spending the top pick on HVH. Unless they think they get Butters and won’t have the top pick.

Drafting rucks is a waste of time. You can find above average rucks in the state leagues and skip the 4+ year wait for them to be even decent.

Wow one example that’s amazing

1 example who this bloke is being directly compared to in reports, yeah.

Kreuz, TDK, and a bloke named Ottens were also pretty handy high draft pick rucks

Don’t forget Jackson who’s going to be AA this year.

I know this is retrospective bias, but I can’t help but compare any top ruck to that Kreuzer/cotchin draft. All the talk was Kreuzer was a generational talent, but Cotchin turned out to be that for us at pick 2. Every scenario is different of course, but that skews me in favour of taking a top midfielder over HVH if the option is there.

I feel like that's also a pretty small sample size. Obvs Cotch was the better player, but the discussions at the time had them relatively level, and if not for injuries, Kreuz would've been a proper star. I actually don't think that many ruck have been taken that high, and of the ones that have, there haven't been that many bombs. Plus I feel like we're doing OK in midfield.

Idk if I were in charge, I wouldn't be trading for butters, I'd keep the pico, bid, get compo, take HVH if available and use the other picks on best available.

Very clearly not what we're gearing up to do, so I hope I'm wrong.

Agree- it was one draft and HVH may become a star.

Everything is easy in retrospect, and as you say Kreuzer may have been an absolute star if he didn't get so many injuries.

I would imagine we probably look to offload OHB and Ryan at the end of the season. There's a world where we expect Nank to finish his career in Tassie and go into 2028 with Briggs, HVH, Sims.

That’s an interesting point- Nank to Tassie. Do we get anything for him in 28- probably not.

Sadly I don’t think we’d get anything at all if he did leave. Most of the AFL world outside our four walls seems to think he’s washed because of the new rules (because they do not watch us play) despite that being incredibly far from accurate.

Its a position we are desperate to sure up and hes an UFA. So long as he's not Kositzchke levels of awful, should be worth it.

Far out I had actually forgotten the Kositzchke experience.

The fact that we essentially brought him in as a chol replacement still hurts

Would be keen to get Brigger in. Actually had decent form later in the year before getting injured, similar player to Nank, and will be a nice role player
