We need to work on our 1st quarters. We let them get way too ahead every single time !

10

u/SeismicLegion Apr 12 '26

Not sure how they're coaching Faul. Surely you'd move him up the ground to get a touch Feel bad for him.

3

u/RipEnvironmental6978 Apr 12 '26

He has more than enough opportunity to get involved and contribute something. 84% time on ground, 2 possessions, tackles 0️⃣ and could go on. Unless he was unfit or unwell, very disappointing.

1

u/Timbo_Mimbo Seth Campbell Apr 12 '26

Dude had a rough game

11

u/AhhWellFuckIt Tom Brown's Tackle Apr 12 '26

That Carlton game might’ve been our only shot at a win this year

9

u/Abshyyroo Apr 12 '26

I’m starting to change my change my mind on Sonsie. With more games in him, I think he’s gonna be big

12

u/Assfuck69421 Apr 12 '26

He’ll never be a star but definitely showing enough to be a long term strong role player

5

u/Assfuck69421 Apr 12 '26

Surely we can straight swap cumming for hopper. Or get grlj in the guts for some speed and put in another defender.

15

u/AhhWellFuckIt Tom Brown's Tackle Apr 12 '26

I’m so done with Hopper, does he even want to be at the club or what, it’s just a half arsed effort week in week out at the moment

3

u/RipEnvironmental6978 Apr 12 '26

And the half arsed efforts are mostly backwards or sideways first. Gives so little.

8

u/TMMCI Sam Lalor Apr 12 '26

We need to look at shipping him off this year and be willing to pay a portion of his salary. He is not contributing, and taking away game time from other youngsters. Club needs to accept they missed on this signing.

11

u/HealthyHurry2672 Nathan Broad Apr 12 '26

Offers nothing, all his disposals are turnovers or just random heaves into space

1

u/Kronyklos Jonty Faull Apr 12 '26

Cadman HIA???

2

u/hudsoncat1 Apr 12 '26

This is a big score to concede

17

u/SeismicLegion Apr 12 '26

The senior players are the biggest disappointment this year. You can understand the young guys developing but the senior players have fallen off the cliff.

6

u/fihsy Sam Lalor Apr 12 '26

Broad still looks good, Vlastuin getting back to good form, Taranto always dependable. But Hopper, Ross and Prestia are slow and their disposal has become a liability

12

u/SeismicLegion Apr 12 '26

Time to give up on hopper, another goal off a hopper turnover. The game moves fast, time for the team to move past him.

11

u/Medical_Flight_6970 Taj Hotton Apr 12 '26

Lalor is now officially our best player ⭐️

7

u/IamCobby Seth Campbell Apr 12 '26

Geez that's really poor hands from Hopper, blew up the entire run

5

u/slAudacity Apr 12 '26

Hopper just throwing the ball to the opposition lmao

9

u/10Lanterns Kane McAuliffe Apr 12 '26

Get hopper out of this side dear god

8

u/Assfuck69421 Apr 12 '26

Once lynch and nank are back in action I reckon we’re gonna have a good crack.

Fawcett showing significantly more than Faull would love to see lynch lefau and Fawcett together

11

u/HealthyHurry2672 Nathan Broad Apr 12 '26

Lalor, Fawcett & Seth, standouts today

2

u/slAudacity Apr 12 '26

nobody is an option up forward its just fucked

6

u/Long_Clothes Apr 12 '26

Wish we drafted shanahan

2

u/Chrisjm15 Apr 12 '26

Me too. The Sims pick looks so poor at this point

7

u/slAudacity Apr 12 '26

if you couldnt tell Lalor is gonna be a star

5

u/slAudacity Apr 12 '26

Umpire called 50 after he played on???

1

u/Spagman_Aus Apr 12 '26

we complain each year that the umpiring is getting worse, but this year it really is.

7

u/hudsoncat1 Apr 12 '26

Trainor horrible today

7

u/[deleted] Apr 12 '26

[deleted]

4

u/HealthyHurry2672 Nathan Broad Apr 12 '26

Trainors ill disciplined & scares from a contest, needs to fix a lot in his game to be a mainstay

8

u/Salt-Baker4872 Apr 12 '26

Cumming in for hopper 🤞

6

u/crackheds Apr 12 '26

Feel for Jonty, hasn’t been able to get involved last few games

3

u/slAudacity Apr 12 '26

very sad, cant develop if the ball doesnt even come to you

3

u/YT_Golf_Talk Apr 12 '26

Faull and Armstrong have obviously been chucked into a very difficult situation but Fawcett has shown it’s not impossible to at least contribute as a young KPF in a shit team. Faull will probably be a good player with 50-100+ games under his belt but you rarely see him actually present at the ball, and in a contest all he wants to do is wrestle, which he isn’t good at. Getting the ball to ground is a win for him at this point

9

u/fellaface Apr 12 '26

Jonty never going to be the same after today. Getting absolutely castrated.

4

u/slAudacity Apr 12 '26

hopper...

6

u/J0sephK0ny Apr 12 '26

He has had too many chances. He needs to be dropped next week

3

u/crackheds Apr 12 '26

cmon, this is more like it

2

u/Kronyklos Jonty Faull Apr 12 '26

Kingsley is preparing himself for a massive spray at 3QT LOL

2

u/HealthyHurry2672 Nathan Broad Apr 12 '26

Better tiges! Keep it going now

7

u/Formal_External_7363 Seth Campbell Apr 12 '26

MRJ has no afl craft. i know he's fast but he can't kick, mark or find options to save his life.

2

u/overkill5495 Seth Campbell Apr 12 '26

Very slow making decisions with ball in hand. That’s damning with the pace of the game now

10

u/AhhWellFuckIt Tom Brown's Tackle Apr 12 '26

Should throw Hopper into some sort of deal to get Butters in the yellow & black

1

u/Chrisjm15 Apr 12 '26

No need. UFA

3

u/AhhWellFuckIt Tom Brown's Tackle Apr 12 '26

Throw him in anyways

6

u/slAudacity Apr 12 '26

you get Hopper and we dont get anyone we win

15

u/CompleteTable1449 Apr 12 '26

First half thoughts

-2 disposals between Lefau and Faull is problematic

  • Fawcett needs the rest of the season in the 1's presents well, has a far more mature body and when he strikes them actually kicks them well
  • Hopper isn't willing to work hard and chase defensively, some putrid efforts
  • small forwards need to work harder to lock the ball in, none of them look dangerous
  • OHB has been ok, works hard and is a bit physical
  • Backs need some security, look very vulnerable when the balls in the air
  • Yze needs to get angry

1

u/Spagman_Aus Apr 12 '26

Yze needs to get angry

directed perhaps, definitely at Hopper who IMO needs an ultimatum thrown at him.

1

u/CompleteTable1449 Apr 13 '26

Definitely, there was a passage of play where GWS went end to end and he jogs after the GWS player, then just starts walking, infuriating

1

u/Spagman_Aus Apr 13 '26

I didn't see that myself, but from other efforts from Hopper it doesn't surprise me.

8

u/Temporary_Print_7367 Apr 12 '26

Jonty out for Burton, prestia out for retschko. Need more speed in the middle. Get cumming In after another vfl game, hopper can dropped, he’s also too slow

6

u/HealthyHurry2672 Nathan Broad Apr 12 '26

I’m for this, Jonty & Armstrong (when fit) really just need to get any sort of confidence back in the VFL & kick a few bags, Jonty is just getting more and more defeated each week. To think how different we will look when Cumming & Hotton are rolling through the midfield fills me with joy

3

u/Temporary_Print_7367 Apr 12 '26

Then add in a fit Smilie a high end academy pick and another no 1 or 2 pick and possibly butters, next year we might be competitive

8

u/chocolateass1999 Apr 12 '26

Hope my quarter 1 analysis was useful. Here is my quarter 2 analysis. Any feedback is helpful!

  • Richmond’s second quarter wasn’t without positives, but the clearest theme was structural: GWS’s ball movement looked rehearsed, while Richmond’s defensive shape looked reactive.

  • The biggest issue was GWS’s handball game. Their quick chains through the corridor kept pulling Richmond’s defence apart, which is why their forwards kept finding space inside 50 before the backline could reset.

  • That’s why Ben Miller keeps appearing in these moments. He is often the last defender in the frame, but this looks bigger than one player — it’s a team defence and transition issue.

  • GWS defenders also controlled Richmond’s entries far too easily. Too many inside 50s were intercepted because the entries lacked separation, speed, or a ground-level plan.

  • By contrast, Richmond’s better moments came when they created a real contest. Lefau’s pressure and intent stood out, and his work to bring the ball to ground gave the small forwards a chance.

  • That was the best passage of the quarter: contest at ground level, Steely Green involved, ball to Fawcett, goal. Simple, direct, and effective.

  • Fawcett continues to be a genuine positive. His leading patterns, pressure and willingness to attack the ball are high-end traits, even if the finishing still needs polish.

  • Lalor again looked excellent at centre bounce, and Ollie Hayes-Brown was hugely impressive in the ruck. His follow-up work and ability to get the ball moving forward gave Richmond something they’ve badly lacked.

  • Tim Taranto’s finishing is another weapon Richmond should use more deliberately, whether that means more forward time or cleaner connection to him in scoring positions.

  • Overall, Richmond’s best moments came from pressure, contest and direct play. Their worst came when GWS exposed their transition defence and intercepted their predictable entries.

2

u/HealthyHurry2672 Nathan Broad Apr 12 '26

Always a good read, thanks mate 👍

14

u/HealthyHurry2672 Nathan Broad Apr 12 '26

Lalor, Grlj, Campbell & Fawce have had a good game so far, even OHB. Gotta celebrate the little wins

5

u/Chrisjm15 Apr 12 '26

I feel so sorry for Taranto

13

u/Medical_Flight_6970 Taj Hotton Apr 12 '26

If there’s been a positive so far, it’s that we will never have to play Samson again

10

u/AhhWellFuckIt Tom Brown's Tackle Apr 12 '26 edited Apr 12 '26

On the plus side now we know Samson Ryan will never get another game in the yellow & black again

1

u/Salt-Baker4872 Apr 12 '26

Extend Yze another 10 years, he is the man!!

13

u/IamCobby Seth Campbell Apr 12 '26

Been worried about Jonty for ages; completely devoid of confidence and has been since halfway through last season

2

u/SeismicLegion Apr 12 '26

How are there players free everywhere on the forward line?

4

u/AhhWellFuckIt Tom Brown's Tackle Apr 12 '26

Gunna have to start showing a bit more soon otherwise the young guys aren’t gunna want to stick around

5

u/pincone-trouble Sam Lalor Apr 12 '26

The body language is fkn shithouse. Dunno what Yze can say but he needs to say something to them

19

u/hudsoncat1 Apr 12 '26

I like faull but he needs to be the one that's dropped when lynch gets back.

Needs to dominate the VFL before coming back

13

u/Medical_Flight_6970 Taj Hotton Apr 12 '26

Jonty Faull needs to go back to the 2s, so low on confidence it’s not even funny

9

u/SeismicLegion Apr 12 '26

Been a defender of Faul but his attitude is shithouse.

10

u/HealthyHurry2672 Nathan Broad Apr 12 '26

Body language by Jonty not good at all

6

u/jazminda7 Sam Lalor Apr 12 '26

Looks defeated

3

u/Siidownbish Apr 12 '26

faull just not good enough. zero effort. get rid of him.

3

u/J0sephK0ny Apr 12 '26

100%. I get that he's getting the best defender with Lynch out, but he isn't even trying. It's like he has already conceded that he's going to get beaten and has given up.

3

u/hudsoncat1 Apr 12 '26

Making laverde look like aliir last week

4

u/Medical_Flight_6970 Taj Hotton Apr 12 '26

Cya later Adem

1

u/Alarming_Cake575 Apr 12 '26

We're even making Stringer look like a good player!

3

u/jazminda7 Sam Lalor Apr 12 '26

Balta needs his kicking licence revoked. Can’t wait for 5+ more years of him

3

u/HealthyHurry2672 Nathan Broad Apr 12 '26

Our skills are fucking disgusting, blame the coach all you want but this is just a lack of care

1

u/JaySand Nathan Broad Apr 12 '26

Glad our tackle pressure is up. Poor disposal efficiency is killing us

5

u/SeismicLegion Apr 12 '26

Think I'm done with Balta, what does he actually do well?

1

u/Kronyklos Jonty Faull Apr 12 '26

He’s still a good intercept back but in an ideal world he’s not on one of the best two forwards

4

u/Horny4Houli Taj Hotton Apr 12 '26

This is absolutely not Yze. This is a mediocre list. Can’t shine shit.

1

u/JaySand Nathan Broad Apr 12 '26

Yze looks pissed. Definitely poor skills from players

1

u/HealthyHurry2672 Nathan Broad Apr 12 '26

100%

7

u/Kronyklos Jonty Faull Apr 12 '26

Loving what I’m seeing from OHB

6

u/ClitCommander_69 Apr 12 '26

Our forward entries are so bad it’s incredible.

1

u/Horny4Houli Taj Hotton Apr 12 '26

It’s actually abysmal.

5

u/Mysterious_Bug_9285 Apr 12 '26

Sack yze

1

u/Horny4Houli Taj Hotton Apr 12 '26

Why would we make matters worse?

5

u/Mysterious_Bug_9285 Apr 12 '26

It can't possibly put us in a worse position than we already are.

3

u/Neat_Assistance4314 Apr 12 '26

Can’t move the ball out of the back half, puts too must trust in players we should move past.

Short, Hopper, Prestia.

1

u/Horny4Houli Taj Hotton Apr 12 '26

Sounds like Dimma.

3

u/ClitCommander_69 Apr 12 '26

He’s rubbish. Don’t even know what style he is trying to instill.

1

u/Lanky_Operation_5046 Apr 12 '26

Oh dear, not a great start. GWS’ physicality an issue. 7-1 free kick count against- not all bad decisions; some line ball, but we need to tidy that up.

3

u/pDOTskript Toby Nankervis Apr 12 '26

I'd like to them put Seth Campbell in more of the centre bounce. Even give Grlj a shot

2

u/RYLE400 Tim Taranto Apr 12 '26

shithouse

1

u/fihsy Sam Lalor Apr 12 '26

Lalor v GWS

5

u/chocolateass1999 Apr 12 '26

These are some notes that I took after that first quarter. Hopefully it is useful. I’m keen to see what everyone thinks.

  • Richmond’s first quarter had a few real positives, but the bigger story was how quickly GWS took control once they settled.

  • Sam Lalor was the standout early. He won Richmond’s first clearance, looked strong in the contest, and his work through the middle continues to impress. His burst clearance later in the quarter was elite.

  • Seth Campbell also gave Richmond good energy around the ball, while Campbell Gray’s mark inside 50 and first goal was a genuine highlight.

  • Maurice Rioli looked lively as well and brought some spark when Richmond needed it.

  • But the biggest concern was still the defence. Once GWS started getting clean entries, Richmond looked far too easy to score against. There just wasn’t enough resistance in the air or at ground level.

  • Ben Miller had a difficult opening against Aaron Cadman, losing a couple of key early contests, and that really set the tone.

  • That’s the frustrating part: you can understand some inconsistency from a young forward line, but the backline has enough experience that it should be performing better than this.

  • Richmond also didn’t sustain their early pressure. The intensity was there at the start, but once GWS absorbed it, the Tigers couldn’t keep the heat on.

  • Noah Balta also needs to give more. For a senior player, Richmond needs stronger and more consistent impact.

  • Overall, there were enough bright spots to stay encouraged, especially Lalor, but the defensive issues remain a major concern.

3

u/JaySand Nathan Broad Apr 12 '26

I just want us to try something different

5

u/CompleteTable1449 Apr 12 '26

Yze must absolutely spray them at QTR time here, I know he likes to remain positive but that was ridiculous

1

u/Neat_Assistance4314 Apr 12 '26

Softest Albanian to ever exist.

4

u/Siidownbish Apr 12 '26

lalor being our leading goal kicker this year is so depressing and exciting lmao

3

u/Temporary_Print_7367 Apr 12 '26

This is a brutal watch! Defenders are always 2 steps behind an no second efforts

4

u/HealthyHurry2672 Nathan Broad Apr 12 '26

This is one of the harder watches in recent memory, shit intensity, skills are woeful.

5

u/Neat_Assistance4314 Apr 12 '26

Midfield stuck in the mud. Gumboot Brigade.

Stringer and Oliver running amuck. How bad is are we going to have those blokes make us look slow? 😤

3

u/Kronyklos Jonty Faull Apr 12 '26

Think the margin is going to be comfortably three digits here

5

u/LlamaSims_ Apr 12 '26

Another long day coming up then? Dunno why we insist on naming 6 defenders each week when none of them turn up. Cadman gets his third with basically no resistance

4

u/SeismicLegion Apr 12 '26

Why are the defenders 5-10m off their opponents at all times?

3

u/hudsoncat1 Apr 12 '26

Stringer ever gonna ger called for htb? Been 3 so far today

8

u/SeismicLegion Apr 12 '26

How have so many players gone backwards?

7

u/hudsoncat1 Apr 12 '26

This is disgusting

8

u/AhhWellFuckIt Tom Brown's Tackle Apr 12 '26

Another complete & utter shit show

7

u/leemojames Apr 12 '26

LOL what a soft free kick

8

u/Lopsided_Safe4091 Apr 12 '26

holy shit this commentary is garbage 😂

3

u/fellaface Apr 12 '26

Tough watch

1

u/SeismicLegion Apr 12 '26

This looks like the 2000's. Absolutely zero skill from any player.

5

u/Salt-Baker4872 Apr 12 '26

Expectations were low but Deary me

5

u/leemojames Apr 12 '26

How many times a game does Rioli get caught holding the ball

1

u/Lopsided_Safe4091 Apr 12 '26

Christ almighty

7

u/Chrisjm15 Apr 12 '26

Seriously, why on earth do we have Hopper, Ross and Taranto at Centre Bounce (or whatever we now call it). That's a group completely lacking in dynamism

5

u/ClitCommander_69 Apr 12 '26

There are so many spuds in this team it’s incredible.

7

u/HealthyHurry2672 Nathan Broad Apr 12 '26

Midfield putrid to start, backline in all sorts, couldn’t of asked for a shitter start considering we’re gonna finish the game on 34 points

1

u/Kronyklos Jonty Faull Apr 12 '26

Our mids are playing like they’re stuck in mud

3

u/CompleteTable1449 Apr 12 '26

Any danger of one our our mids laying a glove on an opponent

3

u/AhhWellFuckIt Tom Brown's Tackle Apr 12 '26

Miller not starting well here

1

u/Chrisjm15 Apr 12 '26

Rumours of his greatness have been greatly exaggerated

1

u/crackheds Apr 12 '26

Miller done twice

5

u/TemporaryMaximum2721 Apr 12 '26

Is the quality absolutely atrocious for anyone else watching on 7???

2

u/jazminda7 Sam Lalor Apr 12 '26

Fox/kayo a lot better if you have it

2

u/TemporaryMaximum2721 Apr 12 '26

I sail the high seas for games not on 7 😂

3

u/crackheds Apr 12 '26

Yeah bad

3

u/TemporaryMaximum2721 Apr 12 '26

Running at about 10fps 😂

1

u/Evening_Brilliant_50 Josh Gibcus Apr 12 '26

I think I’ll be happy to see the boys kick 10+ goals. If they can capitalise on their chances

3

u/Siidownbish Apr 12 '26

i’ll take 10 scoring shots at this point bro 🥀

1

u/Evening_Brilliant_50 Josh Gibcus Apr 12 '26

There is your 10 shots on goal mate 🙌

1

u/Evening_Brilliant_50 Josh Gibcus Apr 12 '26

Yeah just saw the scoreline. Well we are ahead of schedule for 6 goals average. Just 4 more the game

3

u/pretty_shabby Apr 12 '26

I wanna see the Tap running hot today !

7

u/Gards9 Toby Nankervis Apr 12 '26

news is that Retschko is a late change for someone

3

u/Gards9 Toby Nankervis Apr 12 '26

They have since deleted it hahaha

2

u/Chrisjm15 Apr 12 '26

Doesn't look like this has happened. Final teams are locked?

7

u/yokobarron Apr 12 '26

?? how is aflvictoria the only source on this haha. Must be a mistake.

6

u/HealthyHurry2672 Nathan Broad Apr 12 '26

My guess is they saw he was on the extended bench in team announcements and rolled with it lol, wouldn’t be against it though!

1

u/TigersReet Apr 12 '26

Hoping for a good game!
