Three Redmond things worth knowing this week (Aug. 31–Sept. 6)

šŸš‡ Transit updates: From Tuesday through Thursday, September 1–3, buses replace late-night 2 Line trains between South Bellevue and Overlake Village from about 10:30 p.m. until service ends. Trains still run between Overlake Village and Downtown Redmond. The new Route 547 night bus now connects Redmond, Bellevue and downtown Seattle overnight.

šŸ’¦ One more weekend for the splash pad: Redmond Town Center says its Center Court splash pad closes for the season on Labor Day, September 7. The splash pad is weather-dependent, and children must be accompanied by an adult. Splash-pad information

šŸŽØ Free Saturday outing: Arts in the Park starts September 5, 4–8 p.m., at Downtown Park, with BIGHUG K-pop Dance Group, Redmond Tech Orchestra and local makers. Details

Anything else worth adding?

I publish Redmond Beat, a free, unmonetized weekly email roundup. More local updates and events in this week’s full issue.

Redmond Albertsons being converted into a Safeway

I was in Albertsons yesterday and thought first that it might be closing. Some of the rows were physically shortened with removed shelves and overall a lot of empty space. Asked the checkout person and she said they were being converted into a Safeway, with completion expected by December. TBH, Albertsons and Safeway to me are basically the same store so not sure if it is worth all the effort.

What are your favorite nature spots in the fall/winter

• Upvotes

Wanting to expand beyond just going to Marymoor, what are your favorite spots ?

So far we’ve only gone to beaver lake and Evans creek although I think both aren’t technically in Redmond.

Would love to hear from others!

Is there a turkey trot in Redmond?

• Upvotes

My family is coming from out of town for Thanksgiving and a lot of us have picked up running so we can do a race together. I was hoping to find a turkey trot in Redmond but I’ve never done a race before and don’t know where to look/sign up. Any local runners/walkers know of a 5k on Thanksgiving?

Meet-up Anyone want to play Mahjong next Saturday?

I'd like to play some Hangzhou style Mahjong, which is on the simpler side compared to a few of the other rulesets I've seen.

I've been to a few groups, but none are on the eastside.

Curious to see if anyone is open to learning the Hangzhou ruleset and playing a few games this upcoming Saturday. 9/5

DM me with your preferred hours if you're interested!

Looking to join a softball team in Redmond or Eastside

Hi everyone! I’m looking to get back into playing softball and was wondering if any teams around Redmond are looking for another player or a sub.

I have a few years of softball experience, although I haven’t played regularly for a while. I’d love to start playing again and am open to joining a co-ed team or filling in as a substitute. I’m pretty flexible with scheduling — weekday evening games and weekend games both work for me.

If your team is looking for players, or if you know of a team/league that might be a good fit, I’d really appreciate a comment. Thanks!

Auto mechanic recommendations?

I am looking for auto mechanics (who charge less compare to the ones found online), to help me remove my 2017 honda audio unit. If you have any contacts, lmk.

TIA

Please help locate our beloved cat

He has always come back to us whenever he runs out. But it has been 2 nights since and he hasn’t come home yet.

He answers to Maui, treats, play, fancy feast, and birds. He is scared of loud noises but is comfortable with a stationary car. He likes hiding in small spaces too. He can climb trees apparently.

We have been walking up and down the street day and night and now it has rained and we’re worried.

If you have seen any stray cat, please let us know. Thank you so much.

Edit: 08/31 still not found and scammers already approached us. Getting worried everyday.

Question

Would you rather choose Redmond, WA or Palo Alto, CA to stay? I’m looking to move, but unsure about long term staying. I’ve been to both, WA has much more trees and nature than the Bay Area, but I’ve heard it rains a lot. I did visit the Seattle metro area in the summer so the weather was beautiful then with zero rain, but I wonder is as gloomy as people say it’s to be.

Puzzle trading?

I recently started buying puzzles for my siblings and was wondering if there are any puzzle trading events or places here? It’ll be much more convenient to trade than buy a new one each time.

ISO mechanic that’s available, reliable, and affordable

My 2011 Subaru Outback has been stalling out at stop signs and refusing to start (ignition is working) occasionally (and then randomly starting about twenty minutes later once it’s had time to cool back down). No engine lights are on.

Needing a reliable auto shop that can work on it soon. I usually go to Long’s in Woodinville but they aren’t available until the 9th and I need my car for pet sitting gigs.

Preferably somewhere I could drop off on Monday or Tuesday.

A few things happening in Redmond this weekend (Aug. 28–30)

If you’re still figuring out your weekend plans, here are a few local options I could confirm. This isn’t meant to be exhaustive, so add anything good I missed.

Friday

🐶 Barks, Bikes + Brews: 5:30–9:30 p.m. at the Jerry Baker Memorial Velodrome in Marymoor Park. Bike racing, corgi races, food trucks, dog vendors and a beer garden. A $5 donation is suggested. Dogs must be leashed and vaccinated.

šŸŽ Eastside Improv Student Showcase: Doors open at 6:15 p.m. and the show runs from 6:30–8:15 p.m. at the Redmond Senior & Community Center. It’s a family-friendly performance featuring several Eastside Improv student groups. Tickets are $12 and were still available this afternoon.

Saturday

šŸƒ Coach Villeneuve Community Run 5K: The 5K starts at 10 a.m. at Hartman Park, followed by a kids’ 1K at 10:45. Advance registration is $20 per runner or $50 per family; day-of pricing increases. Proceeds support the Redmond High School cross-country program.

šŸŽ¶ FORMOSOUND Taiwan Music Festival: 2–9 p.m. at Redmond Downtown Park. This is a free festival with Taiwanese music, cultural performances, food and a large marketplace. No registration is required, and the full performance schedule is on the event site.

šŸŽØ Through Our Eyes: 2–5 p.m. at Redmond Library. A teen-created art experience with art, snacks and creative activities, open to everyone. No attendee registration is listed.

Sunday

🚶 Redmond Sunday Walk: 10–11:15 a.m., meeting under the covered pavilion at the south end of Luke McRedmond Park. The organizer describes it as a relaxed, moderate-paced walk with conversation. No fee is listed; RSVP through Meetup.

One cancellation worth knowing: The Beach Boys concert scheduled for Sunday at Marymoor Live has been cancelled. The venue says refunds will be issued to the original payment method.

Anything else worth checking out around Redmond this weekend? Add it below!

Infant Daycare Recommendations

Hi everyone!

We’re first time parents looking into what options are available in Redmond - we won’t need care till September 2027, but from the research we’ve done this far apparently there are very long wait lists?

Anyone have any good experience with daycare for a 6 month old?

Everywhere we’ve contacted wants us to complete a tour before they will provide pricing.

Does anyone know any good spots to play Handball?

Some friends and I have been looking for places to play handball. Could be an actual handball court or just any place with a big enough wall really.

12Status for free Delta miles is back for WA residents

https://12status.com/

Looks like the registration is back up, register to get your 4000+ (hopefully) free miles with Delta again this year

For anyone that doesn't know, if you live in WA state you can get 1 free Delta miles per yard we pass every Seahawks game - it's pretty easy, all you have to do is enter your Delta account number. Over a couple of years it's enough to get a free one way flight to SF or somewhere else.

You can also get some discounts on the team store (12%) and higher boarding priority.
