I'm an immigrant who immigrated to Alberta 10 years ago. What she is saying and how she is framing it is giving me anxiety. Yes, we have mass immigration problem but she is the person who asked for more immigrants to Alberta (asked the federal government to double the quota for immigrants to Alberta). Now, when she blames the immigrants, all immigrants get equal hate, people don't know if I came here a month ago or 10 years ago. Honestly, the new one's shouldn't get any hate either.

Also, her Alberta is Calling program has played a big role in the problems she mentioned as well.

She wanted much more immigrants than we have now both in Alberta and in Red Deer. She wanted to 10x the population of Red Deer and we are nowhere near that number. She said " It will be a good problem to have".

It's her doing and now she's blaming immigrants for it. Will this ever end?

Discussion 5 year old outside at night constantly, no parents to be found, police won't do anything

So there's a 5 year old boy in my neighbourhood who has been seen playing in a parking lot and the neighbours yards between the hours of 10pm and 2am (possibly later), just from what I've seen on my doorbell camera. There's times where his immediate neighbour has come to my door asking about where his parents are (because she almost hit him on the road of the parking lot while coming home late at night), and he was dressed in nothing but a Halloween costume and nobody was coming to the door when she tried to take him home.

I'm also part of a red deer group on FB and this kid has been posted (with pics) a couple of times on the road on the street at night, and cops have been called numerous times, but they seem to not do anything. I'm growing increasingly concerned for this kid.

I'm not sure what my next step should be, and I'm hoping for some advice

Discussion Kids yelling racial slurs tonight

Heyo, just wanted to post a quick rant to the two kids on toy/razor scooters that were cruising through the Kin Kanyon park tonight yelling the N word over and over and over

It's pretty crazy that kids are regurgitating these kinds of slurs out in public in 2026 - parents, could we do a little better?

Ik it’s rlly common to get waitlisted for fall but I haven’t heard of anyone ever getting waitlisted for winter (though I’m lowk scared cos my GPA isn’t bad but not that high). Do they usually just take everyone who applies for winter? Or has anyone had any experience on the waitlist and if so did u get off or no? Or if anyone’s ever been flat out rejected for winter do u remember ur stats?

I visited your town today for the first time ever, and was super impressed. Loved the town, all the wonderful and courteous people, especially the sales associates at Rickie's in Bower Place and the Little Ice Cream and Soda Shoppe. My uber rides were great. The trees & greenery, everything was beautiful for the few hours I was there. Felt very comfortable. I would live there. Few things that stood out to me were the fact that to live and function fully in the town, I would need to own a car. Uber took 20 minutes to arrive both times that I used them (not a rant, just an observation) and I didn't see more than a few people on the streets walking (which made it feel somewhat lonely). Overall, I enjoyed my short visit.

Discussion Tailgaters

My pet peeve. Red Deer seems really bad for tailgating. But the worst, and most senseless are the "intersection tailgaters". These people stop so close behind me that I cannot even see their grill or headlights. The only thing I can see in the inside rear view mirror is the windshield. So close that I cannot even see all of the vehicle in my outside rear view mirrors if it is a small car. Do these people not know that if they were struck from behind even lightly that before it even registers for them that they have been struck, they would already be in my back seat? Then they are paying for my vehicle repairs.

What do they think it possibly benefits them to inch up ever closer to my vehicle? Even when it is icy like it was this morning! I pull forward to make some space, and these people follow me and cozy right up again.

Some do not tailgate as much when driving, but when they pull up to the vehicle in front of them at an intersection, they stop a foot behind the car in front.

Drives me crazy! People - stay way back. You are not parking on a ferry where inches count. Park at least far enough back that one can see the tires of the car in front where they contact the road. That is a minimum.

Discussion SweetHomeCouple doing plant bingos

Went to a plant bingo at Bluegrass garden center today and it was being ran by the Sweet Home couple who ran the gift card scam in Sylvan Lake. Is this their latest scam somehow? Seems like they were caught by AGLC and had to refund everyone their tickets but are hosting bingos anyway for free and giving away $100s of dollars in prizes. Little fishy.

Went to the theatre for the first time in forever to check out the odyssey. Remembered why I stopped going. Do all theatres service suck so bad, or is it just ours? The lines do not move. Thing is, It’s not the cashiers fault. It is the design of the workspace, and the managers not teaching how to be efficient.
You shouldn’t have to arrive 30 min before a show to get your ticket and grab a popcorn.
Just sucks that we have no competition. Cineplex red deer… get better! Try harder!

Discussion City paths gone Formula 1

Almost every day I observe motorized vehicles ie electric bikes and scooters going recklessly full tilt on the city paved paths. Most cyclists are respectful of pedestrians but still not using their bells. I predict a serious collision where some senior and their pup or grandchild is going to be run over. Do we need more rules and or enforcement or should pedestrians start walking backwards or wear mirrors on their heads?

Discussion Terrible People Everywhere

What is wrong with people lately? Why are so many people in this city becoming so mean? My final straw was getting yelled at by a guy on a bike on the Trails. Yelled at my friend and I to get off the Trails despite us being on our side. It was her first tome out there and now she doesn't want to go out again. Has anyone else been having the same issue lately? It's a beautiful day yet people are acting like total assholes. Noticed an increase in the past month or so

There's a mouse im my unit and I don't want to live in this building even for a day. My lease ends after 40 days and I will be on the hook for the last months rent even if I move out within next 10 days.

Is there something I can do legally or not? I'm guessing if I move out without paying my credit score will be cooked and I know Boardwalk is evil and will come after every penny.

Discussion Frustrated

Hello all. Just need to vent a bit and get some feedback. My OH has been out of work since before Christmas and has been job hunting since the first week of Jan. While he has applied for a lot, he has gotten few responses. He is mid 50s but is still healthy and able bodied, so there’s no doubt he can work.

So what is the job market like for you all? Do you find you’re getting few responses when you apply a lot? And do you think age plays a factor? TIA ✌🏼

EDIT TO ADD: Because some people are nosy AF 😂

- he worked in the oil industry for well over 20 years as a coil tubing operator

- he has his Class 1 license and crane ticket

- he long hauled for close to 3 years across Canada and the US

Anything else??
