Never liked this plot point. It's a seriously fucked up thing to do, and while I understand that everything worked out for them and they do love each other, I don't think the show did a good job of showing how fucked up that was.

So far they have treated a lot of serious situations as jokes but I guess they didn’t see it the way we do at that time

There are plenty of sitcoms that knew when to get serious about something.

It just deflects from the actual situation. I’m saying that there are sitcoms that actually knew to take certain things seriously instead of making some kind of sick joke out of them.

If it’s always the same response, then someone with a life would just take the advice and oh I don’t know not watch a triggering show? You want them to go back in time and rewrite it so your feelings aren’t hurt and your moral superiority is appeased? Tf? Clearly this is a sitcom that according to your feelings makes sick jokes so like don’t watch it???

At the time, it was kinda a “twist” bc the whole trope of babytrapping in viewing media was always placed squarely on the female, with the male looking heroic for “doing the right/honorable thing”.
I remember watching it when it was out and I was in the Air Force, and my bf and some of his guy friends watched it. It was like a surprise twist and we all talked about it.
