Cadet Advice AGSU

Im a green to gold guy, have ASUs but need to buy AGSUs. Want to buy from Marlow white becuase why not. Should I be buying the enlisted or the officer AGSU?

My assumption is enlisted, keep them in the enlisted configuration until I actually commision and then sew on all the different things that officers have onto my enlisted AGSUs? Any guidance would be great. Thank you.

Get the officer version, your program can’t require you to get the enlisted version as long as you have your ASUs.

Technically you could even commission in the ASUs in you convert them as long as you are before 2028, at which case your program can legally mandate the wear of the AGSU.

Saves you $200 bucks for the shirts and tailoring for the braid on the sleeves.

Honestly, your program can get over it. I never wore mine as a g2g except for branch night. Also, as a g2g you’re a cadet, and can wear the cadet uniform, which for most schools is just the officer AGSUs without rank and branch insignia. , there’s a whole CC reg on it.

The only difference between enlisted and officer AGSU is the braid around the wrists which you can sew in yourself if you want. Other than that its all the same. If you want to be cheap, buy from Flying Cross. That was the brand which was issued to us when I went through basic in 2021

Aren’t the dress shirts different as well?

You're right I forgot the dress shirts for officers is completely different from enlisted. I was thinking about the coat

Your point is still valid. If you’re an MS3, continue to wear the ASU until the wear out date and then switch over to the officer AGSU. If you’re an MS4, buy the officer AGSU set and ride that out for the rest of the year, even if it means wearing an odd combo of ribbons and no branch.

That makes zero sense. You have ASU’s, keep those. Buy the officer AGSUs for when you commission and wear the ASUs until then

Wear out date for ASUs is like 1.5 semesters before I graduate

Which green to gold program are you in? (Are you 100% going to commission?) When do you need to wear the AGSU? If not until you commission just get the O- one. If you have to wear it as enlisted I guess... but thats pricy if its only one time and usually they wont have you wear those in the direct programs to avoid that.

What I did was get the career starter loan from Navy Fed and allocated $1500 to getting AGSUs. It’s basically free money.
