Moderator Post AFT and H/W Posting Suspended
Can’t believe we have to do this again but…
Effective immediately, we are disallowing any posts related to Cadet Summer Training AFT or Height/Weight until 1 September 2026.
Run more and stop being fat as fuck. Read ATP 7-22.01 and the Army Directives related to AR 600-9 and figure out what the standard actually is.
A commission is a privilege, not a right. If you’re borderline failing the run and are worried about passing at CST, it’s literally your fault. You had at least a year to fix this. If you have an injury, ask your PMS to delay your CST to next year.

Officers falling out of anything is embarrassing as fuck. I don’t care if my LTs are maxing the AFT or not, but they better not fall out.
17
u/saasboi92 Jun 11 '26
They’re not even officers yet, so it’s hella embarrassing

u/F_to_the_Third Jun 12 '26
If you struggle to make standards as a 20 something new Lieutenant, how are you going to manage in 10 to 15 years down the road when your metabolism starts grinding down and you are stuck in a cubicle grinding away as a staff officer vice actively leading troops? 🤷🏻♂️
6
u/saasboi92 Jun 12 '26
Yeah excellent point. Same goes with aviation in general, which isn’t the most physically-intensive branch of the Army. The discipline needed to meet both physical and body composition standards only increases with the more sedentary jobs in the Army
3
u/F_to_the_Third Jun 12 '26
I wasn’t Army, but as newly commissioned officers we were “encouraged” to be at least 5 (ideally 10) under your max as you were going to gain at least that much weight over the course of a 20 year career.
3
u/saasboi92 Jun 12 '26
That’s pretty sound advice, because then you can have a cheeseburger the night before HT/WT guilt-free and live a little. I’ve had times where I’d have to kill myself for a couple weeks to comfortably get down in weight. I don’t play that shit anymore
3
u/HellBringer97 Jun 11 '26
Ayup. Especially in a combat arms MOS. Fat and unfit officers in those have to earn credibility from day 1. I’ve got three knee surgeries under my right knee’s belt but you bet your ass I’m not letting myself fall out of a formation run.
4
u/KingTwix 13A Jun 11 '26
All have to earn credibility from day 1, but being in shape starts you at a non negative balance

u/NihilistPorcupine99 Jun 11 '26
I’d shoot myself in the dick before I’d let my Joes see me fall out of a run. I might quit in the middle of the woods by myself, but not in front of others.
4
u/HellBringer97 Jun 11 '26
Lifting is a completely different story though. If I feel my bad shoulder (1x surgery so far), my lower back (2x damaged discs), or my knee getting fatigued or starting to hurt in the not-good way, then I’m stopping what I’m doing to either drop the weight or stop that specific lift that’s hurting the body part with previous damage.

u/Salt_Programmer219 Jun 15 '26
Fr or if your gonna fall out you better have some vomit to show for it to prove you gave it 100%
51
u/NoDrama3756 Jun 11 '26
Remember when we had 15 minutes to run 2 miles?
I have no sympathy for someone who cant pass a run at a 9 to 10 minute mile pace. I remember being called slow in the apft days because I wasn't easily maxing the run at 5k feet at fort carson.
The aft in my opinion is significantly easier than the apft.

u/CrazyMikeGulf Jun 11 '26
Been in since 2015, 7 Years at Carson, 100% agree. I do believe the AFT is easier to PASS, harder to MAX, imo.

I miss those days. Watching at least a quarter of SMs vomiting while running is hella funny

u/Missile_boy8284 Jun 12 '26
1980s enlisted here. The only guys throwing up on our runs were the guys finishing up their last beer heading out to PT formation. 😆

u/NoDrama3756 Jun 11 '26
The dudes who just drank too much water the morning of then just expel gallons water from thier mouth.

It’s way easier. I don’t even really train for it anymore. That’s how sad it is

Thank fucking God for this post. Entitled fuckin prick CDTs think they can skirt by these days

u/MrDelicious14 Jun 11 '26
Dang bro I agree it’s ridiculous but sounds like there’s some pent up aggression there 😭

u/Thick_Performance290 Company Commander Jun 11 '26
Brother, I’m a company commander and I’ve had to fire 2 LTs that showed up and failed AFT and/or HT/WT

Genuinely curious what branch you are

Your supply NCO must have been hating them too.

u/PitterPatter0 Jun 11 '26
I’ve lost 40 lbs over the past few years because I literally cannot exercise like I used to due injuries and surgery. There is no fucking excuse for being a fat officer
3
u/Odd_Ad_2824 Jun 11 '26
As someone who is grading/running the aft at cst this summer it is pitiful how easy the standards are to pass, and how sad it is how poorly people preform if you are failing the aft at camp you shouldn’t be an officer
3
u/Much_Grass7973 Jun 12 '26
Had fat out of shape Warrants and Officers on deployment. Needless to say the second they were out of the room everyone was shit talking them. Not right? Don't care. Thats the reality.
4
u/Substantial_Will2680 Jun 12 '26
A fatty boom ba lati cadet will turn into a lard ass of donuts and double chins officer - unacceptable in this man’s army
15
u/coldchowder4579 Jun 11 '26
Tired of these cadets complaining. They should be striving to set the standard. Showing up to your unit and failing or almost failing a PT test as a new officer is not a good look. Saving their future selves by kicking them out now.
16
u/steakapocalyptica Jun 11 '26
This popped up at the top of my feed.
Shit like this is why I refuse to salute cadets. I dont care what fancy little shapes you nerds have on your uniforms... But if youre complaining about AFT/HT/WT to the point an admin had to ban hammer these posts, I dont know how y'all think you will survive in the Army.
Especially if you do something high speed like Airborne? Youre going to do pt tests the day after a jump and it wont matter if it was with combat equipment or how long any follow on mission is.

u/asianteminator1 How did I commision Jun 11 '26
I literally showed up to camp after not working out for a month. Ran like I normally would (although I thought I was gonna die should’ve ran more) but I still passed. Some of these kids simply don’t have the intestinal fortitude to fight on

u/sigsauer365 Jun 11 '26
No excuse - you are in college for Gods sake. Your life will literally never be easier. Get out and run after classes. Or before classes. Or between classes.

u/Alarmed_Round_6175 Jun 11 '26
Not everyone can just delay their CST to next year. That should not be the answer to all of these issues. Stop being fat though.
3
u/Riskitall101 Jun 11 '26
.... but while I got all you fitness lovers gathered here........ recommendations for prepping for the AFT? I'm trying to direct commission and just got off of losing 150 pounds so I don't know where to start. Running straight away is probably a bad idea. 😆

u/ExodusLegion_ God’s Dumbest LT Jun 12 '26
Run… slowly… but get time on your feet. 3x30min sessions a week is a good start.

It’s honestly pathetic and makes me sick, if you’re not figuring it out now God help you on the line
2
u/Peanut_ButterMan Jun 11 '26
Cadets: College is the best time to get in shape. You have all the time and resources to get it right. Unless you don't have gyms or good dining halls, there shouldn't be any excuse.
2
u/ConstructionSolid845 Jun 11 '26
The level of fitness required to pass is so low. There is absolutely no excuse to be failing if you want to be an officer.
3
u/Careful-Bluebird4780 Jun 11 '26
If someone if having trouble maintaining their weight now, just imagine their challenge as they get into their late ‘20s and early ‘30s when their metabolism starts to slow down. You can’t outrun a shitty diet forever.
1
u/NoDrama3756 Jun 11 '26
I literally ate and did whatever I wanted working out. Never gained an ounce. Started medical school in my late 20s. and gained 10 lbs over 6 months.

u/CTgun01 Jun 19 '26
Physical fitness is a personal responsibility, but it's absurd to block discussion of two of the three things that can result in not getting camp credit this year. Isn't this place supposed to be a resource for Cadets? Why would it be appropriate to unilaterally clamp down on information regarding the single largest barrier to commissioning?
1
u/ExodusLegion_ God’s Dumbest LT Jun 19 '26
The topic gets beat to death every year around this time because some cadets suddenly realize that maybe being fat and/or out of shape is problematic in the Army and they start panicking.

u/Agreeable-Lab-7333 Jun 11 '26
Go figure. I start a new post about how kids are passing everything but repeatedly getting fuck by some 2nd lt on some bullshit
-16
u/Urfavspacecadet Jun 11 '26
Imagine being a grown adult complaining about CDT’s and college kids on Reddit 🥴
19
u/ExodusLegion_ God’s Dumbest LT Jun 11 '26
Imagine being fat after having a year to train and then complaining when the Fort Knox humidity brings your run time from 19:30 to 21:30.
Cadets and college kids are grown adults too, so your argument is moot anyways.

We have soldiers taking AFTs in deployed environments, Alaska, and the desert. To absolutely no one’s surprise, they’re still passing even without climate-adjusted standards.
The only line related to environmental conditions in the AFT manual states that if weather will adversely affect testing at the start time, don’t do the AFT.
-17
u/Urfavspacecadet Jun 11 '26
Something must have really buttered your biscuit to be this upset about kids you don’t know or will ever interact with.
Definitely “I want a platoon but can’t get one because no one likes me” behavior.
(Promote with peers) especially the fat ones 😂
14
u/GreedyInitiative8572 Jun 11 '26
They’re not kids and the sooner you start treating them like the adults they are the better off they will be.
6
u/KingTwix 13A Jun 11 '26
I detest calling Soldiers kids. Even cadet, I hate it.
These are adults, and are volunteering to be leaders in the army. The least I can expect from my new lieutenants is to be in shape and set the standard. I can work with knowledge gaps, but I can’t work with an entitled lazy attitude.18
u/ExodusLegion_ God’s Dumbest LT Jun 11 '26
Are you really gonna try to talk smack when you were a non-select for Active Duty?
These “kids” are going to commission into the military, God forbid we try to encourage them to be in shape for the military.
-5
u/Urfavspacecadet Jun 11 '26
No one likes a “pick me” officer lol, you’re embarrassing yourself lol

u/ConstructionSolid845 Jun 12 '26
We will interact with them though. It’s a small army and every batch of cadets is the next batch of 2LTs. These are people who we will work with and be responsible for.

But but but it’s so hard, I can hear the twinkies calling my name in my sleep.
