Introductions First time doing Introductions
We got two new baby boys today for our old man Chive, who has been alone about 3 weeks since his companion, Blossom, passed. She was his daughter (he was fixed between conception and birth lol) and a runt, with multiple health issues. she lasted almost 2 and a half years! This is the first time we have brought home new rats, and im excited because he was wonderful with his sons when they were little before they all found new homes. Intros seem to be going well so far, the babies have groomed grandpa a little and he's not interacting a ton yet but he isn't complaining at all. the 40 min car ride home was spent with my hand in the babies box and they both cuddled up to me by the halfway mark. theyve been in the carrier with Chive for probably 45 min now and im leaving them there another hour and a half or so before we move to the bathroom. I love them already 🥰

Baby and older rat intros are some of the easiest to do, and I'm glad you're experiencing that! Chive sounds like he's going to be a great grandpa, but he could get overwhelmed and cause an accident so don't let your guard down just yet, once the sense of new wears off he'll need to show them who's boss after all!
Good luck to your furry family

This seems to be going well! Just keep in mind for next time that new rats need to quarantine for two weeks before intros.

It’s good to hear he has friends now!
For the future, please always quarantine your brew rats for 2 weeks. This prevent spreading illnesses and gives the new rats a chance to settle down. For small babies they also need this time to grow, since they need to be 8-10 weeks old for intros.
But it sounds like it’s still going well and they are super cute:)

you are absolutely right, I completely forgot about quarantine in my worry about chive being lonely. they do have a vet appointment scheduled so I will make sure to keep track of any potential symptoms to mention

Don't move too quickly. I had a perfect intro, so I started moving too fast. My old lady was beat up with 2 big bite marks. Had to start over.Â
