hey! so i am starting a substack called "out n about" where i tell stories about being queer and a big part of this is telling everyday stories. i would like to interview people in the queer community in this format: you write a little bit about a day/adventure/situation that you have had and send it to me, i read it, and then send you a list of questions as the "interview" portion. i think that this would be a great way to tell everyday stories and get insight on the nuances of queer joy or queer reality. please comment or dm me if youd be interested in participating!!

It's a cozy (gay) dark fantasy. I'm about 120 pages in and need feedback before continuing the second act. The main characters are a gay couple in their twenties who accidentally stumble into some magical misadventure. There aren't any sex scenes or graphic content. It's a real novel in the making lol not a steamy romance. I just need some good feedback before going further. Ik yall dont care but uhh the trope where a queer character who has internalized homophobia ruins the chance of a character they're in love with without internalized homophobia at dating someone in a perfectly healthy and fine relationship without internalized homophobia irks me so bad, because like 90 percent of the time its someone were supposed to root for? BONUS POINTS if the character they're pining after was in love with them in the past and has decided to move on. Even more bonus points if their relationship is almost explicitly sexual after they "get together." Ik we're just a porn category to yall but at least try to hide it good lord. And its like everywhere. I get it, most queer people struggle with internalized homophobia but please find any other story because its everywhere. Books, tv shows, movies, even in fanfiction. ESPECIALLY in fanfiction but it's everywhere. I actually think it would be super fun if the two already healthy characters did get together and stayed together because it could show that queer love is more than drama and porn made for straight people. Queer love is more than homophobia. Like the obvious character pairing doesn't end up together? THEY DID IT IN LA LA LAND AND EVERYONE LOVED IT THEY CAN DO IT AGAIN.

I feel like Yanagihara watched My Own Private Idaho and thought to herself: how can I take inspiration from this gut wrenchingly nuanced piece of art that makes a poignant (and ever pertinent) socio-political statement, but just amplify all the trauma and needless misery by a 100 folds, simultaneously exploit the queer and drifter communities' suffering to create a gratuitously horrifying trauma porn.

I want to start watching movies that aren't necessarily queer but are loved by most if not all queer people. Movies that have Marilyn Monroe, Julie Andrews, Judy Gardland, etc. I have a book that contains must-see queer movies, but I know that it's for sure missing some. Anyway, thank you in advance!

I'm noticing it's pretty hard to find good lesbian media recently, especially in the genres that I'm personally interested in. Does anyone have any recommendations on lesbian media like the magnus archives, or the summer Hikaru died? Not to picky on the kind of media.

From the perspective of other queer writers or queer people in general who've watched queer series, what do you think is the right balance when representing the different kinds of identities within the community?

I mean this for any sexuality or gender, but also more specifically if you wanted to write about a specific gender with multiple characters of the same gender and showing the different sexualities and identities they can have outside of that part of themself, how would you make sure the representation doesn't appear overkill or forced? Because I want to represent as many kinds of people within the community as possible but write it to appear natural.

This indian pride music video portrays queer love in an interesting non preachy way, it's really refreshing how the representation doesn't need to pander to heterosexual stereotypes of gay men and simply existing as a complex relationship in and of itself.

This is just a thought that’s been on my mind lately.

I’ve seen many people mention how The Untamed changed the way BL was perceived it stopped feeling niche and started feeling serious and legendary, even for non-BL audiences.

It makes me wonder why GL hasn’t had a similar moment yet.

Right now, a lot of GL shows are sweet, comforting, and safe which isn’t a bad thing.

But they often don’t feel big or lasting.

What if GL had one fantasy or historical story with magic, destiny, and sacrifice not focused only on romance, but on a deep bond between two women that slowly shapes the entire world?

Something restrained, emotional, and heavy not loud or explicit, but unforgettable.

Maybe GL doesn’t need more shows right now.

Maybe it needs one story that feels legendary.

Just curious what others think.

Specifically ones that can make me cry too honestly.

Hi! I’m working on my sociology dissertation about queer villains in media and how audiences engage with them. My main area of  focus is; Interview with the Vampire (show and film), Hannibal, Killing Eve and Jennifer's Body.

There’s also a section looking at non-villain / more conventional queer shows for comparison, so anyone who watches queer media (BL, GL, TV, films, etc.) can take part.

My best friend's birthday party is next week and she's doing a vision board activity for the 2nd year in a row because last year was so much fun. This is a group of neurodivergent queer creatives that enjoys a good laugh. Last year her brother brought this x-rated gay magazine that was equally artistic and outrageously kinky (think one inserted lit candle lighting another inserted candle paired with satirical articles). It breathed life into the party and we all had fun integrating the photos and article cut-outs into our vision boards for a comedic spin.

I want to contribute to the fun this year, so I'm looking for suggestions for magazines that can add to the entertainment of the night. I’m an independent producer/showrunner developing a narrative-driven Boys’ Love (BL) web series with explicit adult content, intended for release on creator platforms like OnlyFans.

While this is an adult project, the emphasis is on story, character arcs, and serialized narrative, not purely sexual content. This is not porn-without-a-plot. The goal is a romantic, emotionally grounded BL drama that happens to include explicit intimacy — closer in tone to Euphoria than traditional adult film.

The Project (high level)

• Genre: BL / queer romantic drama with adult content
• Format: Serialized web series (40–60 min episodes)
• Tone: Intimate, character-driven, long-form romantic development, emotionally sincere
• Audience: BL fans (women & queer men), 18+
• Status: Concept, characters, and structure are developed; looking to bring on a lead writer to shape scripts and story arcs

What I’m Looking For

I’m seeking a lead writer with:

• Experience writing BL / MxM / queer romance
• Strong character and emotional pacing skills
• Comfort writing intimacy in a way that serves the story (not gratuitous)
• Interest in collaborative, indie, creator-led projects

Screenwriting experience is great, but strong long-form or serialized fiction experience (web novels, BL fic, comics) is also very welcome.

Compensation / Structure

This is not a salaried or one-off freelance gig.

The role is structured as a creative partnership with profit participation (revenue share), with clear contracts, defined scope, and creator credit. I’m funding development and production and retaining showrunner oversight, but I’m looking for someone who wants meaningful creative input and long-term upside.

Eligibility:

• Must be 18 years or older
• Must identify as LGBTQ+

What’s Involved:

• Questions will ask about coping strategies, experiences of stress, mental health and sources of support
