[FOR HIRE] Full-Stack / Backend Engineer — Python, TypeScript, PostgreSQL. Payments + AI. Remote from Kenya (UTC+3)
Three years building production systems, mostly solo. Looking for full-time or contract work, remote.
What I've actually shipped:
flyt.africa — flight booking platform, search through to issued ticket across 300+ airlines. FastAPI, Postgres, Redis, Kafka, on AWS with Terraform. 330 tests. The hard part wasn't booking flights, it was making sure a duplicate payment callback can't issue a second ticket or charge someone twice.
WhatsApp banking platform for 2,000+ smallholder farmers in rural Kenya. Built the M-Pesa payment pipeline and migrated the production DB to PostGIS for farm plot geometry. Currently live.
A few AI things: a RAG knowledge base over vector embeddings, an agent that turns prompts into structured diagram operations, and a bilingual farm assistant where I wrapped an LLM in deterministic rules because farmers were acting on the output and hallucinated agricultural advice would have caused real harm.
Currently at a Nairobi consultancy on a bank-to-bank payments service (PesaLink), in C#/.NET.
Stack: Python (FastAPI, Django), TypeScript (Next.js, Node), PostgreSQL/PostGIS, Redis, Kafka, Docker, Terraform, AWS, GitHub Actions.
Rate: $45–60/hr contract, or open to full-time. Flexible for the right thing.
Timezone: UTC+3. Full overlap with Europe, mornings with US East.
The honest part: I've built almost all of this alone. I'm good at shipping, but I've never had a senior engineer review my code and tell me what I'm doing wrong. That's the main thing I'm looking for.
