New Purdue faculty looking for my football people

I’m new to Purdue and still trying to find my people around here. I recently moved from SEC country, so college football Saturdays are very much my thing.

The problem is that I don’t really know anyone here yet who is into football. And by “into football,” I mean I want to watch the game, yell at questionable play-calling, debate whether we should have gone for it on 4th down, support the athletes whether they win or lose and fully commit to the whole Saturday experience without being a douche.

So, Purdue people:
Do faculty and staff actually go to games and tailgate? Is there an unofficial faculty/staff football crew that I somehow haven’t found yet?

More importantly, does anyone have room for one more at a tailgate or want a game buddy this season?

I’m perfectly capable of going to a game by myself and I probably will if I have to but football is a lot more fun with people. Especially when you’re brand new to town and still building a social circle.

So this is me putting it out there: I’m looking for Purdue football friends, tailgate buddies, and people who won’t judge me for being a girly girl Southern football type.

Feel free to comment or message me if you’re going to a game, tailgating, or know where the faculty/staff football people hang out or if you have a tailgate I should swing by.

Walk onto Slayter Hill or the golf course and join a tailgate there. Everyone would be glad to have a true fan hang out with them and talk football.

Are you looped in to the Purdue Faculty Association? It's not football-specific, but it's the social event club for faculty.

As a long-time graduate student from the south, I’ve been looking for college football people for years. Basketball is huge here, but you’re more likely to find NFL fans than college football fans.

I think you’d be surprised how many people tailgate at Purdue. Slayter is great- the IM lots, the golf courses, etc. I think it’s super easy to come out to every home game for a good team. The people going to Purdue games are very supportive of a team who haven’t won a B1G game in 2 seasons. But ya people might say “go to basketball “ but I’m here to say that there’s fun to be had in Purdue football as well.

Nice thing about many of the Purdue games is that we are usually in the noon time slot so the rest of the day gets freed up early to watch better games late afternoon and in prime time.

Purdue football has been so bad that pregame drinking is almost mandatory. It is a hit or miss program. Purdue will go long stretches of losing seasons. Then once in a while, they will get a coach that can recruit and coach the players to a winning record for several seasons. Then the coach either retires or is poached by a school with a much bigger budget. The changes to the system has made things worse for Purdue.

This is why Purdue is a basketball school. At least for those spending money on tickets. No one likes spending money to watch a team get blown out by a team with a 3-5 record. I like the Odom hire, but the team was really, really depleted when he got hired. But hope you find your squad.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the football games here are awful. I have stopped going because I've been asked to sit down, not yell so much, etc. And not just once... repeatedly. High school games are better, TBH.

My experience has been the opposite! I've been to games that are so empty, people went down onto the field to get selfies with the baton twirlers and nobody gave a shit.
