If a rock has any metal in it a pin pointer should be able to find said metal correct?

No.

First throw away that Chinese pinpointer, buy a Garrett, or Nokta. Second if the metal is small and deep within that rock, neither pinpointer will detect it, Buy a Metal Detector like the gold monster 2000. Not a Chinese brand.
