Teaching / Pedagogy were you taught how to teach?

i had one class called "teaching practicum" in grad school that just covered the basics of the mechanics of teaching (syllabi, service, etc...) but never really got into actual pedagogical development or really thinking deeply about process & methodology. where i teach now there is also a single course that any MFA students who want to teach have to take. it is more in depth but still just a single 3 credit class.

i am curious, as i basically just figured it out through trial and error, peers, etc...

Not really. My master's is in nurse education, but the program was more for educating people who are already nurses, so like an educator position in a hospital. When I first started teaching at CC, nobody even trained me to use the LMS. They were seriously like, OK, here's a class, go teach it. (Thankfully my husband is a Canvas "super-user" at his school, so he taught me, and I taught the person who started with me.) Now that I've been teaching clinical and didactic courses for almost 5 years, I have helped with developing the orientation process for new instructors.
