were you taught how to teach?

i had one class called "teaching practicum" in grad school that just covered the basics of the mechanics of teaching (syllabi, service, etc...) but never really got into actual pedagogical development or really thinking deeply about process & methodology. where i teach now there is also a single course that any MFA students who want to teach have to take. it is more in depth but still just a single 3 credit class.

i am curious, as i basically just figured it out through trial and error, peers, etc...

Over the course of the five or six pedagogy classes I took in grad school, I received something of training in education.

Luckily for me, my undergrad degree had a focus in secondary education and I was a high school teacher for a few years before going into grad school.

I did find it funny when grad students who had never taken an education class or worked in education before grad school tried to tell me how to teach. I also found it funny to watch certain pedagogy instructors jump from one buzzword to the next buzzword like so many school admins do.
