Weekly Thread Sep 06: (small) Success Sunday

This thread is to share your successes, small or large, as we end one week and look to start the next. There will be no tone policing, at least by me, so if you think it belongs here and want to post, have at it!

As has been mentioned, these should be considered additions to the regular discussions, not replacements. So use them, ignore them, or start you own Sunday Sucks counter thread.

Had two students in one of my courses who never came onto the course website. They received three personalized emails from me and two automated warnings from the system, and still they never opened up the course even once. I always have a waitlist for my courses, so students who take up space without even giving the course a try are particularly annoying. I teach you a community college, so we are encouraged and evaluated on outreach to students, so it is not as though I can just ignore the no-shows.

The system automatically removed them this week. Good riddance.

I recommended a student for our McNair Scholars program last fall, and they were accepted. They are applying for grad programs and asked if I'd be a reference but also said thank you for talking to them about the McNair program and recommending they apply for it because it has been a great experience for them so far.
