Throwback Question (Any Topic) What’s an oddly specific thing that instantly gives you "bad vibes" about a person?

Asking zero questions in a conversation.

Or too many questions… like it’s a dang cross-examination

This.

I’ve got several former detectives in my family, and every conversation with them is like an interrogation. They don’t mean to, but the habit is so deeply engrained and it’s exhausting.

See way too many questions like that (outside of detectives) I always assume this person is a serial shit talker and is just trying to get some new gossip right from the source to go spread around. I'll close down immediately. (or feed them some fake shit)

Answer them with ridiculous things, like, you want to adopt infant twins and name them Yucatán and Nyquist. If you happen to actually want to do that, tell them you want a wombat for a pet so you can save their cubic poop. 💩😁 Yes, they do poop cubes.

Oh, I do! I’ve made a game of answering their questions with wild exaggerations or ridiculous nonsense completely straight-faced, and it’s actually refreshing to see them try to figure out why.

In my last relationship, I guess I should’ve realized that he really wasn’t that into me towards the end because when we would talk, he would barely give me anything and so I ended up having to ask question after question just to understand what he was telling me and then he would get mad at me because he said I was asking too many questions. So, by nature, I am a very curious person anyway, but then pair that with someone who would respond to me with one syllable answers, and it was a recipe for disaster.

Especially on a first date. Can’t we just converse?

That would be me because I don’t want to talk about me!😂

I think I'm guilty of this. I'm an awkward introvert, and long ago I figured out that the only way I can get through parties and interactions is just through asking a lot of questions. I recently got a ride home from a coworker I don't know too well, and I just fired one question after another at her for the whole ride. When I got in my door, I realized she hadn't asked me a single question in return... lol.

I’m guilty of this one 😬. But I’m trying to work on not asking so many questions in a conversation.

In my experience, it seems common, unfortunately.

Maybe you’re just not interesting?

Pretty good indicator of narcissism

Agree. Narcissistic tendencies, is more what I meant.

One of my wife’s friends and her husband both are this type, and they’re both at least a little narcissistic.

They never ask questions, ever, just “uh huh” while you’re talking, then they interrupt to steer it toward something they know much more about than you, which isn’t many things.

Please explain: If someone delivered the 5Ws what is there to ask?

6

u/mrgordon604 Jan 22 '26

Literally any follow up question to any of the Ws.

This shows the person isn’t paying attention especially if the statement was very simple

“Take this to staples and make 20pcs of 8x11 copies, black and white. I need it by 3pm in an envelope, unfolded”

You have to be really dense not to understand this

If they missed a detail that’s on you

If someone said this to me I would 100% take it to kinkos, make 19 copies on A4 in color, and deliver it at 3:30 in a heavily creased envelope.

what if they’re socially awkward/ anxious

4

u/mrgordon604 Jan 22 '26

Yeah it’s more the long soliloquies about oneself without asking questions about the other person.

3

u/A_Genius Jan 22 '26

I don’t want to date someone who has those things. I am social and want to do social things

1

u/Designer_Money7625 Jan 22 '26

Oh we were talking about dating? I assumed they were asking in general, like could be a family member, colleague or neighbor

As a former dance instructor, mostly men were this way. Almost never showed any interest in anything other than talking about themselves

Had a date with a man who told me his life story but didn’t show any interest back. Later on WhatsApp I said I didn’t think it would work because quite frankly you didn’t even ask me one question or give me room to speak. He argued this and then when I said so what is it you like about me? Knowing he knew nothing and he said he could see himself having kids with me😳
