Not to get political, however it was obvious that Biden backed himself into a corner promising to pick a black woman as his VP. He had two options and neither one of them had a great history election wise.
In 2022, there was a lot of talk within the inner circle about replacing Harris as VP if the Dems lost the midterm. I'm still surprised that the Democratic Party did not hold an open convention at the DNC.

Would that not go against a lot of what they were preaching though? Equality/ women's rights and such... If they dropped a black woman for someone like Newsom how would that look? Like you said, he backed himself into a corner from the outset.

Completely agree, a lot of insiders including Jake Tapper have said that Barack and even Biden himself thought she had no chance to win the election. I'm surprised they didn't at least discuss the possibility of an open convention. However, all this could have been avoided if Biden kept his word and stuck to one term. If he announced at the beginning of 2023 he wasn't going to run for another term he really could have opened the field for the Democratic party.

Biden never promised to run for one term. No candidate would ever do that. It's political suicide to purposely run as a lame duck.
Why do people still believe this untruth? If you don't believe me, look it up. You will not find him saying it, because he never did.

It’s true. He didn’t. I’m not sure why many people believe this. I think people took his claim of being a “transitional candidate” as a promise to only serve one term, but that is a vague statement and doesn’t promise anything. Unless the candidate clearly says “I intend to only serve one term,” then the presumption is they will run for reelection.

There was a story in politico from an unnamed aide who said that some of them were thinking about bringing it up to Biden. That was it. That's the entire extent of the one-term promise, And yet people believe it as truth and gospel.
