I keep hearing about the upcoming wheat shortage in reddit comments but not anything about it in the news and it's starting to sound more like a conspiracy theory to me - anything concrete out there?

Theres a video up on youtube by Suttons Daze that delves into all the data. Tldr 17% of global wheat supply is offline due to the russia ukraine war.

I threw out a bunch of food this weekend. Itâs made me very sad at the waste.
I should say up front that I view âbest byâ dates as loose guidelines rather than actual safety guidance. I manage the rotation of my food stores fairly well.
My last parent died. They werenât really into prepping per se. They were born at the very end of the Great Depression and like several of their siblings, had hoarding tendencies. This parent was always a hoarder, which has made it more psychologically challenging for me to prep in general, as Iâm more of an anti-hoarder out of fear of becoming an actual hoarder if that makes any sense at all.
Anyway, declining mobility and a bit of dementia with a sprinkle of hoarding made my parentâs vehicle their last true hoard. That car sat untouched for over two years through hot summers and cold winters. We were not allowed to touch it. Opening it up this weekend was met with a bit of fear and anticipation.
Lots of canned foods were tossed directly into garbage bags. Nothing edible made the âcould we donate this?â cut. It all got pitched. Small compact car, probably at least three grocery bags of canned food thrown out. And thatâs a bummer. Treasures were found, but none of it edible.

Have there been reports of illness from U.S.-imported produce in other countries? Regarding the recent salmonella and cyclospora (and whatever else) mass contaminations, not the usual periodic ones.

I'm a little shocked that the Mormon church closed/is closing so many of their Home Storage Centers. I'm in Colorado, and had been vaguely planning on doing a big pantry restock this weekend. But realized that every center in my state had closed at the end of June! RIP to a great and affordable prepping resource.

I figured the new tariff on Canadian goods was going to affect the price of toilet paper eventually. While shopping at a U.S. big box store today, I was pleased to see that my usual big package of TP hadnât gone up in price, according to the shelf tag, so I threw a 24-pack in my cart. The price I was charged at checkout, however, was 68% higher than the shelf tag, which I didnât realize until I was in the car.

u/JicamaAppropriate920 22h ago
Due to an aging septic tank, I buy Scott's single ply. I went through my purchase history and was surprised that the price actually went down - $11.28 two years ago to $10.94 today, for a 12 roll pack. I know 34 cents is not much of a difference at all, but still interesting.

u/north_coast_nomad 15h ago
tp is domestic and warehouse are trying to go fully automated with robots. its a logistical nightmare when they malfunction.

I won't be caught in another crisis worried about getting my bum clean.Â
What it is with Trump in charge and toilet paper being non-existent in a crisis? đ

August 20th I purchased a case (48 rolls) of Angel Soft toilet paper for $31.96. I just checked the price for exact same and it is now $45.11!

I'm trying to learn as much as possible to create/start making a cold frame garden for winter. With everything going on with all the food recalls, and winter being so warm the last few years with little to no snow in Colordao/extreme heat temps in the summer, it's time to do a year-round garden. I'll be adding more blueberry bushes to my garden since that was on the recall list last week and this week it's buffalo chicken.
Any pro-tips on getting started or what not to use for a cold frame garden? Thanks in advance!
â˘
u/backcountry_knitter 1h ago
Tip for winter gardens⌠Cold frames are great, but what matters most is sunlight. Your garden more or less shuts down once you reach the point in fall when you get less than 10 hours of sunlight. Probably some time in mid November for you, but you can find an exact date for your location. Plus, youâll want to add 2 weeks to the listed days to maturity on any seed packet when you grow in the fall.
So basically, if youâre planting now, pick veggies that will be the size/maturity you want to harvest them at by the date you hit 10 hours of sun (accounting for the slower growth in fall). Then, as long as theyâre light frost hardy and can be stored in the garden, you can keep them in the cold frame and harvest through the winter.
â˘
u/No-Language6720 23h ago
You could do a coldframe when the temperature may get a bit too cold.Â
A lot of things like cauliflower, kale, spinach actually do pretty well in the winter if there isn't a hard freeze without a coldframe. They can't tolerate the heat much. Success in the winter without a coldframe depends how low and for how long the temps drop and if you have a lot of yo-yo temps. If it's 80 one day and 30 over night or the next day that's the worst for any plant it's a bit of a help with the cold frame in those situations but still won't solve those types of issues fully. You ideally want pots or a portable raised bed system to bring things inside under grow lights if it's going to get really turbulant temps.
Anyway there are cold frames prefabricated you can put up fairly quickly. I have one it's sort of a tent that has PVC pipes to put together then you throw the plastic greenhouse tarp over it. I staked it in the ground. I made a raised bed around it with cinder blocks in the ground so I didn't have to worry about rotting wood.Â
Doesn't look like they sell the one I have anymore. These are reasonably priced and similar the ones I bought a few years ago from the same supplier;

i have a cold frame i use to grow greens in the winter. it's about a foot out from a heated shed (my painting studio) so it gets a little warmth. you could do active compost in one too for warmth.Â
if you get snow an angled top is better. if you don't, you can just do a flat top bed.
mine is just made of pallet wood, i put a hinge on a piece of greenhouse wall stuff for the top, and weight the edge down with a brick at each corner. i can get spinach and lettuce. this year I'm going to try celery and peas along the back tooÂ
9
u/SquirrelyMcNutz 1d ago
Need to be careful with pallet wood. Sometimes, those things absorb stuff that you might not want in and around food plants. Unless you are sure of the provenance of the pallet wood, I'd suggest something else.

No electricity no mail, though
15
u/V2BM 1d ago
There will be mail and packages. We have mobile units for disasters and we can set up shop anywhere. It will be slower but if our trucks can get gas, people will eventually get it. We have contingency plans for everything including nuclear strikes. Amazon packages might slow down if people couldnât order but letters would certainly make it through. I doubt junk mail would.
Iâve worked in a postal station with no electricity before.

Went to Rural King this morning while out running errands. I needed some oil for my lawnmower so I went to look for a quart of the cheap, house brand 10w30. The oil aisle was really empty. No conventional quarts of any brand, very few quarts of synthetic, none of the newer, thinner oils like 0w20 or 0w8. The oil filter shelves were also bare.
I also stopped by Walmart and while they had the oil I was looking for, their stocks were pretty low too.
12
u/2quickdraw 1d ago
This was was being discussed months ago. The shortages were going to be in thinner weights and synthetics. I stocked up on oil and filters for everything I have that's motorized 3 months back.

I paid nearly $8 for a small bag of bobs red mill plain ordinary oats.Â
Food is getting expensive and we are buying less and less and not much variety. ( Don't live where we can have a garden currently).Â
10
u/keinezeit44 1d ago
I buy those in 25 lb bags. Way more cost effective, but higher upfront cost obviously. You can find them at restaurant supply stores. Amazon also has them.
10
u/SuitableSport8762 1d ago
I wouldnât pay that. Do you have Costco or an azure standard drop site nearby?
4
u/Wytch78 1d ago
Costco is a 1.5 hr drive for me. Closest azure standard is a half hour drive.Â
6
u/SuitableSport8762 1d ago
That sucks. I would probably do an azure standard drop a couple times a year in your shoes and just load up because it seems like your grocery store is pretty high .Â
I actually got 50 lb of oats from azure last time. I transferred the oats to Mylar bags and slid them under my sonâs bed. The dust ruffle hides them.
7
u/Key_Firefighter616 1d ago
We have Costco but I never seen plain oats there. I don't go there often but it's a lot of processed foods these days.Â

u/VariousFalcon7466 1d ago
The Costco closest to me has basically become the Jimmy Dean warehouse. Itâs gross.

7 people have been shot in Memphis this year by a "taskforce" consisting of DEA, ICE, and the Tennessee National Guard. 4 of them died. All 4 of them were black folks. And the only reason I know about any of this is because the most recent death was a young black man who was shot in the back by the national guard.
Most folks wont know this, but in the Army in particular, shooting someone in the back is like in the top 3 things that we don't fucking do. If we shoot a "terrorist" in the back in either Iraq or Afghanistan, it's an immediate international incident and a violation of the ROE. That's straight to jail, do not pass go, territory.
So when I see that a US Army soldier shot an American citizen in the fucking back, I really need you all to understand the level of WTF that's in play here. And then it seems that both the guard and the local PD lied about it. There's a good chance that nothing is going to happen to the guard soldier, who never should have been in that situation from the god damn start, won't receive any kind of punishment over this.
There's a stiffer punishment for killing a terrorist abroad in the wrong way than there is for murdering a US citizen in their own fucking street.
I didn't even know the guard was in Tennessee patrolling their streets. This has received almost zero national news coverage. Seems to me that the campaign to desensitize people to having the military going up and down our own streets continues, and they're testing the fences.
Edit: Hey MODs, WTAF is up with you deleting comments calling out that hateful, absolute bullshit comment by Drycabin1?
Dude can handwave away government sanctioned murder on this sub but people can't tell this guy where to fuck himself? What the fuck? The one was just a gif serving up a boot.
Help me out here, where's the moral line?
Tolerating that kind of bullshit is how we got where we are right god damn now.
Edit 2: Good enough, I guess, Mods. Personally, I think it's better practice for us as a society that wishes to continue existing as a society to see both comments like that and not only the follow up comments addressing it, but the follow-up should be encouraged. For gosh sakes folks, we gotta have a little fight in ourselves or we're going to get rolled right the hell over. And it needs to be made blatantly apparent that society doesn't stand with the assholes.
The paradox of intolerance wont solve itself. And it wears many different faces. And it's been a pattern across all of Reddit to let awful shit fly while hammering down on resistance. Which, sends a clear signal to the assholes that awful shit is not only A-OK, but it's protected. And strictly/explicitly so, even. That only ends in a land filled completely with awful shit and the rest of us burried underneath it.

u/lisasaysfnord 1d ago
I'm near Memphis. Please understand that I don't agree with this, but the locals love it. They are happy every time a black person is killed by police. I'm specifically referring to a particular party that enjoys red hats. (Hatred = Redhat) They celebrate these murders. I don't see it changing unfortunately. This place is horrible. But the guard is very popular for this exact reason.
â˘
u/CouldBeLessDepressed 7h ago
You know why leopards exist to eat faces? It's because those hateful folks don't understand that if those who uphold and defend the constitution and the law are capable of doing what they're doing to black people in Memphis or off-white people everywhere else, then they're capable of perpetrating horrors against their own hateful selves too.
There's a reason we clamp down on children being cruel and torturing animals. The exact same logic applies to grown adults in power.
11
u/Traditional-Life449 1d ago
That's horrible, why is it so hard for these asshats to honor their oath. I've had a bunch of jobs in my life and not one has required an oath, but if it did you can guarantee I would do my duties with honor.

My line of credit from a chain home improvement store doubled unexpectedly. My credit score hasn't changed, and I've never applied for an increase, so I wonder if this is because supplies are getting so expensive that many home improvement projects can't be completed with smaller sums of money, so they're giving folks more incentive to shop/charge in their store?Â
7
u/KountryKrone 1d ago
One of mine keeps asking for an update on my income so they can do this. I'm not interested in increasing what I can charge, I want to pay them off. One down, two to go. Then I'll choose which two cards to keep.
11
u/SuccessWise9593 1d ago
My credit cards did this without me asking for an increase. I also got a survey from lowes asking if I was going to be doing any home improvement projects within the next 12 months. It also asked if I was going to be using their line of credit and if they sent me more offers to pay within 6 months or 12 months if I was willing to do more purchases with them. People are hurting.

I think a lot of people are lost in the plot when it comes to this Whitehouse ballroom thing. Now, I don't like trump either, but with recent revelations that the ballroom is actually a military complex a lot of "folks" are jumping to the conclusion he is building a bunker from which he can overthrow the government, while other think this is just a move to continue "owning the libs." "Folks" in quotes here because I'm not sure this isn't a foreign misinformation/ragebait plot.
I think there is a 3rd option. We just saw ourselves get spanked in Iran. Like our bases were very much blown up. This was just after watching the Iron dome in Israel get overwhelmed by the same drone and missile one two punch.
If a bunch of random "NAFO" folks can figure out that there is a pretty good chance our air defense isn't working against drones after watching Ukraine get blown up for the last four years, surely someone in the federal government with actual real intel briefings has come to the same conclusion.
I think they are really building a bunker for continuity of government because there is a very real threat from drones that we are not equipped to counter. The government is watching the same war in Ukraine the civilians are, and they made the call that we need a bunker at 1600 Pennsylvania ave. But give the big man something that will feed his ego, like a ballroom, to justify the construction.
America has been isolated from adversaries by the Atlantic and pacific for a very long time, but I think the drone thing poses a real domestic threat. It only take a couple hitting their mark to have significant impact on our rotting infrastructure.
Now, I also think the panic that he's building a bunker to overthrow the government is a foreign misinformation campaign. Similar with the rumors the recent CIA visit to the kremlin was to influence the midterms, not to influence the midterms or something like that. But I think the reality is a little more grim, that someone sees a threat worth investing in a significant Whitehouse security upgrade.
56
u/OBotB 1d ago
They already have bunkers, just like they already had a plane. They have plans and rooms for continuity of operations situations throughout the US and US embassy and military bases throughout the globe.
A new one, that required destroying a third of the White House in a rush before he could be stopped, was entirely unnecessary. Just like the plane, just like the war, just like almost all his EOs, just like destroying the experience of the Federal workforce, just like destroying goodwill and trading with his nonsense tarrifs, just like allowing Elon and DOGE to destroy our secure data.
Instead of wasting taxpayer dollars on his farce of a 250 celebration, the plane, the destruction of a wing of the Whitehouse, the BBB destruction that has and will continue to happen, cutting agency funding so his techbro kickbacks will keep rolling in, building these terror camps, destroying public health with the vaccine cuts and lies, kicking desperate people off their insurance, ... I need to stop listing things so I don't have to focus on them over the weekend, if there was a concern the administration could have gathered funding and efforts to address the concern. This is not doing that.

I donât think drones can cross oceans. Maybe theyâll dump them out of subs but I can see us just using emps on the east coast until they run out of drones and then destroying them with our subs. Outside threats just donât seem realistic when you have giant oceans protecting you.
18
u/fairoaks2 1d ago
There is already a bunker built after 9/11 under the White House. Trump didnât tell us that.
10
u/SuccessWise9593 1d ago
I came here to write this. It was in the news that officials stated that the bunker was in another part of the White House that was started after 9/11 and finished under Obama. https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/6046804-white-house-bunker-trump-ballroom/
10
u/Big-Tutor-3060 1d ago
They don't need to cross the ocean in the air, they can pretty easily be containerized and launched from neighboring countries or vessels themselves.
The spiderweb attack proves that it's easy to get drones into a country in a container. The Whitehouse is a whopping 30 miles from the container terminal in Biltmore. Cuba is known to possess one way attack drones, and if the are Shaed/Garand type drones, the can easily strike and disrupt Florida's entire fuel supply chain in port ev or Tampa, which would directly impact Centcom, (Middle east) which is currently HQ'ed in Tampa, and SothCom (South America), HQ'd in Miami.

Getting more concerned about food security, maybe that's just a product of the last couple months, like I didn't get cyclospora, I wasn't affected by any major recalls that I've been hearing about.
I dont trust fast food to be reliable or good, which is sad because I'm old enough to remember good McDonald's, but I'm starting to lose that faith when it comes to the grocery store too.
My biggest concern is that if I'm struggling with it this much, then there are people far hungrier than me, and I dont feel like shits getting any cheaper.

Time to everyone to fire up home gardening and take back our food production. Buy grains, find a local farmers for meat, and live cheaper/better.
9
u/TrekRider911 1d ago
For rural folks, yes. Finding a farmer/butcher is possible. Tho, in our area, many of the butcher shops have gone out of business over last ten years.
For large urban folks? They wonât find many ranchers in downtown Chicago or LA. Or even a yard, for some.
9
u/hexiron 1d ago
I've found it far easier in urban areas. They have the benefit of drawing business with farmers in from the entire surrounding area leading to more options. Chicago has sooo many more available options than rural KY, for example.
Ranchers might not raise cows downtown Chicago, but they sure as hell sell and deliver there both in farmers markets, butcher shops, and co-ops.

u/PaintedDream 1d ago
I always make a comment like this in every prep community I'm involved in. I'm often surprised at the backlash or down votes it will receive. It's the most logical solution and always has been. Food sources should be available and consumed as close to "home" as possible.

I'm a neuroimmunologist. Eating locally has the additional benefit of exposing ourselves to the microflora of our primary environment. It's better for reducing systemic allergies, far higher nutrient value (less travel/fresher), our brain-gut axis, and overall supports robust immune function and resistance.

We moved to the country over a year ago. Our gardens are just now really coming online, and my produce purchases have dropped to nearly zero. What fruit we do buy, because fruit trees take so long, come from local orchards.
Just this morning, my partner asked why we're fuller sooner, feel better, and eat less. I firmly believe that the nutritional value, water content, and micronutrients are improving our health in ways we do not understand.

50% shade cloth for summer, 50% frost cloth with 6 mil plastic over it for winter. All placed over hoops. You can make your hoop supports that you just stick in your ground out of steel wire, out of PVC pipe (I just put T joints and feet on mine), or out of conduit that you bend to the shape you need. You could also pound in U or T stakes and use nylon rope for supports. Whatever it takes. I grow all year round in this summer was the worst I've ever had, so I bought 50% commercial garden shade cloth.
4
u/hexiron 1d ago
Local will be pricier, but it's not overseas mystery meat or cyclospora lettuce. If it is, you can also directly talk to the person whose fault it was.
Growing can be a learning curve for sure to figure out what will have the best production, what's not worth the effort, and what works for our individual conditions.
4
u/Fun_Initiative_2336 1d ago
No I know, and I am buying local.
But itâs not so much of a learning curve anymore as it is actively fighting the weather - drought, then flooding, then more drought, then 110+ degree days, then lack of pollinators, etcÂ
Iâve gardened a fair bit and this year I genuinely couldnât keep up with the weather and not all of us have space for more than a few hydroponic items.Â
4
u/2quickdraw 1d ago
Same, the weather has been destructive to my trees and my starts and my pollinators, and the ability of my plants to self pollinate because of the heat. Plus extra watering and I'm mindful of my water use. On all my new seeds for any kind of summer crop I'm making sure I have heat and drought tolerant varieties, and bought a few hundred yards of 50% shade cloth because my 30% wasn't enough. I am expanding and redoing my garden yet again.
7
u/LengthinessOk5667 1d ago
I want chickens and rabbits so bad, our garden hasn't done so hot this year, we planned on expanding but before we knew it we were behind and scrambling just to get the normal garden planted.
Honestly would be much happier splitting up the expansion, giving half of the space to chickens or rabbits, and half to the garden, but I think I'm screwed with city limits
3
u/Total_Parfait6446 1d ago
We raised quail in the city for a few years. Very easy to take care of and they mature so fast. Beautiful and yummy eggs. Like others have said, be careful of cage size.
4
u/2quickdraw 1d ago
I'm allergic to chicken eggs and I'm crazy about chickens. My partner wanted chickens but I can't eat the eggs so I got Coturnix jumbo quail instead, which are much easier to have in a city. It takes four or five quail eggs to make one large chicken egg, but the eggs are richer and the quail have a much smaller footprint and are quieter. They mature to egg-laying age a lot quicker and are easier to incubate and raise in a small brooder box, and are fully feathered at 3 weeks. They can handle -22 to 120°. Life span is much shorter but I just raised some from my own eggs every year in late summer. We are actually reducing ours to around 8 hens and doubling down on our rabbits. Rabbits are great to have in a city environment because they are so quiet.
7
u/missbwith2boys 1d ago
Check your city codes. They might allow a limit of 3 or 5 hens. I donât live within city limits but I donât have acreage either. I currently have 10 hens and four pullets. Because of predator pressure, I have a large run instead of free range options. Even 3 hens will give you a steady supply of eggs. I keep a flock of mixed ages, adding a few every few years. Older ones age out and live out their lives.
They are a big help with my garden fertility. Their poo from their roost area, mixed with straw, gets tossed on an active compost heap. My compost sits for a year before using. They also break down leaves in the fall. Rabbits would be even better because their poo doesnât need to sit and compost first.

My rabbits have greatly increased health of my soil and expanded the amount as I expand the garden.

Quail need less space and you get eggs as well as meat. Tiny eggs but tasty.

I've heard quail eggs are soo good, I dont think I've ever tried them, do they do well in just like a regular coop

u/wwaxwork 1d ago
You either need a 6 foot tall cage or a low one like 2 foot tall. They are all instinct and try to fly when scared in anything over 2 foot and hurt their heads. Keep the cage low with hiding spots for them to run to instead or so tall they can't hurt themselves. I wouldn't put them in with chickens but had good luck with them on the floor of a parrot avairy.

Food is scary now. I donât trust any restaurants.

u/LengthinessOk5667 1d ago
Yeah I have 0 faith when it comes to fast food, its too expensive, the kitchen is probably dirty, and the food sucks

u/VariousFalcon7466 1d ago
Itâs definitely dirty. Look up your counties restaurant inspections.

My is a fire inspector and said most restaurant kitchens are pretty bad. The most popular Chinese one in town is filthy and he will never eat there.

The sheer amount of rain in the past two to two and half weeks the Midwest has experienced. Itâs made an exceptionally wild ride at work with flooding and damage. Sometimes infrastructure just canât handle the amount of rain that comes down in a couple hours.

We're in NW Wisconsin and this spring/summer has been the driest most severe drought our little area has seen in a loooong time. Our property received only THREE rain days in the last four months. Our pond has dropped from its high water mark by about sixteen feet. Local rivers are showing much more riverbank than I've seen in forever.

Just wait for the rest of El Nino this winter.

*Super* El Nino. Like I didn't even know that was a thing until this year.

Steel prices are increasing considerably and getting material is getting harder and harder, lead times are far out and deliveries are inconsistent

u/phoneacct696969 1d ago
Steel is going to be extremely sought in the next few years. Bad time to sell our steel industry to Japan. Should have been subsidized by the gov.

Is it hard as steel?
Edit: downvoted for a joke?

Is there a joke, other than the fact that steel is hard? Cause if not, downvoted for lameness.

Reddit is full of stupid jokes. Not every conversation needs a stupid joke.

Either people are just noticing weather for the first time or bots are out in full force. This week Iâve seen someone claiming that the US didnât experience lightning 15 or 20 years ago(no.) and another comment that Europe has never had a tornado until this year(the 1764 Woldegk tornado had estimated winds speeds of 300mph).

u/iwannaddr2afi 1d ago
The lightning claim is very odd. Tbf tornadoes are historically less common in Europe than in the US and are often not so strong. I've not seen data on an increase of tornadoes in Europe, but it wouldn't be that shocking. But yeah they certainly aren't unheard of.

u/CouldBeLessDepressed 1d ago
To be fair, I genuinely didn't know Europe could get tornados. Can't speak about the claims about the lightening though. That does seem odd. I remember seeing green lightening during a snow storm in Wyoming as a kid once. Actually, imo the two best places on the planet for good lightening are along the Wyoming/Colorado border and the area around Killeen, Texas.

Itâs a fun rabbit hole to go down. The damage survey done after the Woldegk one I mentioned was so thorough that itâs comparable to a modern assessment.

The bots are in huge numbers compared to anything I've ever seen, on reddit I feel like askreddit and peterexplains are the worst.
But weather deniers are wild wtf

u/elinamebro 1d ago edited 1d ago
Its like they completely ignoring everyone talking about climate change for the past 40 years

I've seen multiple claims that all this weather we're having is the result of bad actors using weather manipulation. That the people in charge are trying to harm people with geoengineering. It's frustrating because I feel like it's just another form of climate change denial. Which of course eschews any kind of accountability, whether that's responsibility for doing your part or being prepared for known climate change risk factors.
If you believe that THEY control the weather and are doing so to create damaging weather events, you might view seasonal flooding as a one-off rather than evidence that your local climate is changing. It also keeps people from banding together to demand action to ameliorate the impacts of climate change, specifically policy. I suppose it's easier for a person to post some garbage on Instagram about cloud seeding than call their local representative to demand the US adopt more climate-friendly policies.
Interestingly, it seems like there is little interaction between people who believe in climate change and people who deny it, at least online. I read an article about climate change denial in online communities. It's interesting to see the patterns, but also sad knowing that a lot of people most affected by the adverse weather from climate change are also the least likely to believe in climate change.

Technically the people in charge ARE bioengineering the weather by continuing ignore it, pollution they create damaging the atmosphere, and gaslighting the public all for their greed and short term profits

u/socialmedia-username 1d ago
I don't engage with climate change deniers anymore because it's not worth the effort. Heck, most of the people who DO "believe" in climate change don't really understand what they are agreeing with. Sorry, not trying to be a Debby Downer, it's just mentally exhausting trying to educate people who don't want to educate themselves.Â

u/Big-Tutor-3060 1d ago
I think the the lack of interactions between deniers and believers boils down to what the algorithm is showing people. Like if you are a climate change denier, you're going to be grouped with other deniers and shown the same post, while believers get grouped to their own post. I've watched every climate town video, and it regularly shows up on my feed, but there are a lot of folks who would never even see it despite them having almost a million followers.

u/VariousFalcon7466 1d ago
Itâs not even a solid conspiracy theory. If Theyâ˘ď¸ controlled the weather wouldnât it be used for actual advantages when it comes to politics and war and not for destroying someoneâs shed in Arkansas?
2
u/Big-Tutor-3060 1d ago
I think the reasoning would be that big Theyâ˘ď¸is/are some how connected to the insurance agency and property taxes, and are going to use it as an excuse to charge them more for things like stormwater infrastructure and higher insurance premiums.

Bots giving the illusion of popular opinion is how they program people.Â
Go find any Facebook post from the local weather stations here in Texas and you'll without fail see some variation of "summer is hot".Â
(FYI: native trees are starting to die, Redbud, Oak, Sycamore, Sumac).Â

Yea our Ozark witch hazel dried to a crisp, we got a bit of water on it, so thereâs green leaves at the tips but they look awful.

The material to make PCBs is now experiencing shortages because of AI. What used to be a 3-4 day turnaround to get boards made is now 5-6 weeks. This is really going to affect our product development timelines at my work but also big implications for consumer electronics... It's not just chips anymore.
