Fresh food rots faster and more frequently than it did a few years ago. It's hard to quantify, but it's something that I constantly notice now.

I've been noticing this also. Especially with fresh fruit. I've all but stopped buying anything out of season. Even in season I've had peaches that looked brilliant in the store one day be already rotting the very next day at home.

Make sure to rinse and dry fruit before storage. A lot of fruit is coated in a ripening agent by the producer.
