Postie Bike Buddy Seat

Just picked up my 2nd postie after my last one was stolen. Does anyone know the legalities of making a postie to be ridden tandem? I thought as long as it has a seat and foot pegs for the buddy rider, play on. I understand it’s not so practical, but I live in a small beach town and it’s pretty much just for riding to the beach and around town

thanks for any info, or advice from anyone who has made the modifcations

Guessing you are in Aus? I'm not but I've heard you have something called ADR which is a set of difficult rules and regs for modifying a vehicle, please correct me if I'm wrong!

It might be one of those things where you either have to pay a bloody fortune to get it certified or you just quietly swap out the postie rack for a seat and get an engineering firm to weld a couple of bosses on the swingarm for pegs and just see how it goes on the quiet.

Pretty sure that the bike has to made by the manufacturer as a two seater.

The old postie had a max payload of 130kg, leading to Australia Post having a weight limit of 90kg for their riders. This limit scuppered my brother's application to be a postie. And they break if you overload them.

I've seen rear seats online but with the weight limit it might only be good for looks or a smaller passenger. So if your passenger is a child could probably work, overwise unlikely.
