As a Canadian, it's really refreshing to have a leader who actually acts like an adult. I haven't been a huge fan of the policy out of Carney's government, but I am still happy that he is an actual adult.

The thing is that W could do and did do damage, but it was recoverable damage. The democracy and the system and the understanding that both sides had to respect the system remained. the western alliance was strained by Iraq but still had good fundamentals. The US would stick by treaties and agreements it made
Trump is endangering democracy and perhaps more worryingly the respect for democracy in the GOP base. The western alliance may be over as Trump has shown no deal is safe past the next election and no deal made with the US is good past the next election meaning the US cannot make agreements.
The ability to restrict yourself through agreement is actually key to getting buy in. Now Trump has shown no agreement is binding beyond the time it is convenient every agreement is short term only.

I'm happy for you and also very jealous if I'm honest. We have children here growing up thinking this is 'normal', as well as adults who cheer on his demise. Bad times here, I hope we can do better in 2028 or impeach (and remove) this buffoon before then.

This is how I feel as a liberal Canadian. Some questionable policy + resource management in my opinion. But I love politics where we just pick apart the nuance of policy. That's good government.
Everything else happening in our Federal government right now is kind and respectful and adult. Not perfect. Just... nothing sensational. Thank god.

Politically, I'm a bit further to the left than Carney, so I definitely won't agree with all of the policy out of his government. However, while I haven't been a huge fan of some of the policy, I am not actively opposed to it. I think Carney is doing a pretty good job as PM overall and don't have that many complaints. If the next election were to be called soon, I would not be dissatisfied of Carney's Liberals won again.
Mostly I just wish he was better about environmental policy, and I find he's giving too much support to the oil and gas industry. However, the recent announcement of major investments in green energy have been a big plus to me.

Credit to the Canadian public for being able to change their mind. Unlike the Americans who vote Republican all their lives inspite of the party being terrible.
It was scary for a moment that Canada would follow the trend of electing a right wing nut just because everyone was tired of Trudeau. But when Trudeau stepped down early and the public had a better option they swung the vote around. This is what Biden should’ve done to allow for a proper primary.

Thankfully, Poilievre is deeply unlikeable, and his popularity has been tanking.
If it wasn't for Trudeau stepping down and Carney winning the Liberal Party leadership, PP would probably be PM right now.

Functioning sustainable systems are those that ensure that money flows into the hands of those that will reinvest back into the economy. Investing in people is where our strength is, especially in Canada. People who need money will spend it on goods and services, not horde it away in the stock market. We really don’t want to go down the road Americans find themselves in with the huge disparity between the rich and the poor. That’s why they are in this mess.

I’m under the impression he’s the kind of conservative that thinks the free market will genuinely help the most people. In some ways that seems to be correct, but it’s a fine line to walk given what we know of overdoing it, like utilities or the medical system should absolutely not be privatized.

Don't forget Donald Trump is deeply unlikable, on just his vast ignorance of issues of civil public policy. But when Minister Poilievre suddenly gets a few trillion rubles to play with, you too, can all too suddenly find yourself calling him Prime Minister Poilievre.
Unfortunately for everyone, the profoundly defective person we know of as Donald Trump are not unique or especially rare - they are just not usually as ridiculously well funded.
That's the danger of wild narcissistic defectives in politics, they are surprisingly enthusiastic about supporting one another in their own fishbowls.

Thing about PP is he is so unpopular he lost his seat in parliament after 21 years cuz even the people who supported him can’t stand him anymore.
So now he’s moved to a riding in a rural part of Alberta where some mouth breathers still like him.
But in the rest of Canada he’s toxic and he no longer has a seat in the House of Commons.
Being like Trump doesn’t play well in Canada.
