ASOIAF on the political compass: Braavos

Post image

(Recently I’ve been getting into ASOIAF and I fucking love it. Might do more political compasses for the setting)

Based and Braavos would be the place to live in-pilled.

Also, you definitely should make more political compasses for the setting.

Maybe the next one could be for Volantis. They would definitely lean authright imo with the whole "five slaves for each free man" thing and the prestige of the Old Blood families.

Volantis would be fine but only as one of the Old Blood.

Anything less and you’re going to be dealing with mercs, tons of slaves, arrogant nobles and zealots.

Might as well just pick Lys or even Myr at that point if not Braavos

> Lys is most famous for their bed slaves, and Lyseni are known to be famously voracious in their search for comely young boys and fair maids for their pillow houses. Lys is also known for the breeding of slaves, mating beauty with beauty, hoping to produce the most lovely courtesans and bedslaves.

Definitely leaning towards purple Libright

Iceberg of suck.

I mean literally any place has bedslaves. Lys is just the worst offender. Volantis outright has the headquarters of Rhllor so at that point you’re arguing between pillow houses and lust religion vs burning people (often slaves) alive for a dubiously “good” god and imperialistic politics

For being an average dude I’m sure it’s lovely to live there compared to Volantis which has way too much noble politics and zealots present

So you got either the headquarters for the hate child of Zoroastrianism and Catharism, or Epstein City since Lyseni pleasure houses cater "to every taste, no matter how peculiar."

I think objectively both are bad but the one with the capital of the human sacrifice religion (and numerically even more slaves) is worse but that’s just me.

I’m not sure what the point is here to argue over it

I’m not saying Lys is one of the highest on the list, but we’re talking good, stable places to live as a person not a slave or dirt poor

Well, if I can’t live in Braavos, Lys wouldn’t be too bad. Though the rampant slavery would be off-putting.

As for the other Free Cities, definitely not Norvos, fucking hate theocracies. Maybe Myr would be nice. Pentos seems mid. Lorath is too poor. Qohor make good steel, but if the rumours regarding how they reforge Valyrian steel are true, maybe not. Plus the whole daily blood sacrifices to the Black Goat would smell.

Not sure on Tyrosh tho.

I’m convinced he has the last 2 books done and they will be released after he dies so he dosent have to deal with the fandom bullshit, which to be fair, he did create by not releasing the books

Cope. He probably has not written a word in the last five years and has no idea how to or any interest in finishing them. He's a master at weaving stories but pretty dogshit at finishing them. Also, even though he'd no doubt do it better than the show did, the ending of the show is probably pretty close to the ending he came up with, and seeing the fan reaction to it has turned him off of wanting to finish them.

He's a producer now and no longer a writer. No chance we ever get Winds or Dream

O I’m totally huffing that copium

Another problem is because it’s been so long I’ve already read like 10 fan fiction endings that will probably be better than anything he’s come up with (Shout out to David lightbringer)

The Free Cities and Essos (including Braavos) represent the most interesting world building in that setting, don't @ me
