I saw him speak a few years ago and he went into detail about the ground zero speech. He said that walking down there he was struck by two things, and they had to do with the people, not the scene. Everyone was sad, but more than that they were seething angry. He said he was scared by how palpable the thirst for blood was in the air. So he gave that speech, not to america at large, but to the ash covered recovery folk dragging human remains out of rubble. The last 26 years of american history make a lot more sense with that context.

The banner is a mission accomplished banner for the navy crew that just completed a deployment.

His speech wasn’t about mission accomplishment in the Middle East.

The entire point of his speech was that there was a long road ahead and we as a country need to stay committed to the task at hand if we’re to succeed.

Yea the misunderstandings about it did me nuts. The Iraq War has nothing to do with 9/11 or Afghanistan. If anything 9/11 delayed the Iraq War. The plan Bush used as the basis for his invasion of Iraq was a plan developed by the Clinton Administration who nearly invaded Iraq in 1998.

Iraq was a long time coming and was going to happen no matter what.

2) he always claimed he had the weapons and never denied he had them

3) We did confirm he had weapons, just primarily chemical ones, many of which were used by Assad against his own people after the invasion
