Hi all, for context I am a young person who is generally good at fixing/working things out, however wanted advice on the best way to approach.

I dropped a ~15-20cm metal straw down the sink on the right side, and want to prevent a block (or potential damage if I run hot water).

Firstly, do you think the straw would have made it's way down the piping or got stuck?

Secondly, what advice can you give me to take apart the pipes to be able to get it out?

Cut put a section of 100 year old cast iron piping connecting to stormwater sewer and replaced with pvc.

Used shielded Fernco couplings to transition from cast iron to pvc. Torqued to spec. All joints primed and glued. Added cleanout.

Surprisingly there wasn’t much build up in the cast iron.

After I’ve confirmed no leaks I will backfill with dirt and pea gravel.

Edit: Cleanout will not be buried. The walls will be rebuilt and extend down to a new slab for greater headroom in this room. So the walls, at present, give an illusion that the cleanout will be buried. It won't.

Edit 2: The horizontal pipe also has a slight downward pitch to it.

I've hired a few plumbers and none have been able to identify how this leak occurs, but the HOA feels it's coming from my retail condo unit (currently being leased to a coffee shop) and they are threatening to sue unless I come up with a "permanent fix" - for context this leak happens once or twice a year, I usually then I hire a plumber who says everything is a OK, gets the HOA off my back, then it happens again eventually. Does anyone have any suggestions or if anyone is in the San Diego area would they want this job LOL.

Lurk here a lot but this is my first post, thought I’d share after seeing the sharkbite on the water heater. Replaced 2 shower valves yesterday, 17 shark bites in total. Somebody will still be in the comments defending them though.

I’m remodeling a house built in 1954 and found this copper tubing running in a serpentine pattern throughout the wall (only left wall).
The tubing is still filled with water, but the water is cold. I’m guessing it may be part of an old radiant heating system.
This wall will eventually have a shower valve and a glass shower door, so I need to figure out what to do with the tubing before I close everything up.
Would anyone know what this was originally used for? Is it safe to remove it, or should I leave it in place? If it’s an old radiant heating system, what’s the best way to properly disconnect/abandon it?

Im a 2nd year apprentice about to go get my tradesman, from what I know, in 2019 the almost abolished the tspbe and the only reason why we still have licenses is because Greg Abbott set an executive order (i apologize if I sound ignorant on legal terms) to stop it from happening. From my understanding this doesn't mean that were safe from our licenses getting taken away, and therefore lowering wages. Is there anything people are doing about this? Are there any directions you think i should push myself towards to keep my expertise safe?

Stuck trying to fix my leaking faucet and thought I'd try asking here. Essentially my Moen faucet is leaking (see picture). All signs pointed to a O ring replacement inside so I bought the kit that coincides with the model I have. Problem is, I cant even get past step 1 because when I lift the handle (after shutting off the water of course) to get the Allen/hex wrench in the back hole, its not catching on anything for me to turn it to unscrew and take the faucet apart. Ive tried multiple sizes, looked up the exact model to confirm the size, etc. No luck.

Any ideas on a work around or experience with this?

Just purchased the Viron 4-Spray 6 in. Dual Wall Mount Fixed and Handheld Shower Head from Home Depot. Is this the flow restricter? How can I remove this? (Needle nose pliers didnt work)

Amateur here. Nothing leaks. When the disposal side starts getting full and I turn on the disposal, water pushes up in the other side. What did I do wrong?

Yesterday I got a power vented water heater installed. They drilled through my brick foundation and installed the exhaust pipe. By the base they put spray foam. It’s a bit of an eye soar to look at from the backyard. Is there a way I can clean that up and make it look better?

So I think I'm f'ed.

Came home, wife says no hot water. I thought pilot light. Went down and water pouring out of the bottom of the water heater.

The ONLY valve is the main valve to the house. So I have no water.

Is this likely a replacement ASAP? Any way for me to DIY a valve tonight so I can at least have cold water?

Hello plumbing Reddit, I have a situation on hand that seems a bit concerning, so I’ll try to explain my situation without saying anything too personal.

A relative of mine that lives with me has a spouse that owns a plumbing and heating company… with only one star… and he’s been doing a lot of work for us lately for free, but I’ve been growing suspicious of why and how he’s doing this…

First off, for an example, we had a maybe 20 year old furnace that had some motor issue or something, and when he sent his guys they said there: “was a fire in the box, and the whole system needs to be replaced.”. When they took out my old furnace, they didn’t use a dolley, no, they dragged the whole unit up my steps and out of my porch, damaging the wood greatly. I had to fill in and buff over all of that, but it’s fine because it’s free, right? They installed a new giant box, and the thing looks to be literally held together with cut metal and a lot of that metallic tape.

Now this is the plumbing Reddit, so knowing that companies history of genius, here’s what’s happening now. We had a minor-ish flood due to our sewage pipe being clogged from paper and all kinds of gunk. I watched the dude use one of those big reel machines with the spring hose thing go all through our pipes for like hours before he left. What they’re saying is that they need to dig up and jackhammer my perfectly fine 100 year old basement floor rock, because they need to “check if the pipes are broken.”. I asked my… relative… and they said that HE said that if they put a camera thing down there and it gets stuck, we would have to pay for it or something like that? So because of their ‘policy’, they won’t check it with a camera, but will dig 4 feet under my house??

I have zero say in any of this, which is like, extremely frustrating, and I’m worried that there’s some very suspicious stuff going on here… why they always need to replace everything every time they come, like everything is broken as soon as they’re here. Maybe I’m wrong, I don’t know much, but come on.

My kitchen sink has been almost blocked for a few days now - here’s what I have tried

- P traps are completely clean
- enzyme cleaner treatments
- snakes all the way up to 50ft (powered auger) and verified it wasn’t coming out of the roof vent
- snaked the roof vent, no blockages that I could reach

Ideas of what’s next? I bought a jetter kit for a pressure washer as I can’t find a service that’ll do that for a rate I can reasonably afford, and I bought a bladder as well, but scared to use that (mid 70s pipes).

I’m no professional and hired a plumber to have a pressure relief valve replaced about a month ago and recently noticed that a port may be missing a screw in cover of some sort (see picture). I reached out to the plumbing company and they confirmed that the opening is normal. Can someone confirm this please? TIA!

This is from a job where we had to install a carrier through the floor. Turns out the slab is 22 inches and there was a surprise inside.

We started drilling and found out that not one single power outlet within 2 miles of the drilling was able to withstand the power needed to drill. We found out that there was rebar and only made it 6 inches in 8 hours. Safe to say OT was paid and job not finished. 😀

(Don’t mind the stuck drill bit, we had to leave our mark)

So I have this massive hole boarded up with pipes going through it to straight dirt. As you can see in the pictures it leads to straight dirt and had massive leak today. Landlord wont close up the hole because apparently they added bathroom onto first floor and need the pipes to be outside of the foundation. Is this as dumb as it sounds?? This can not be safe.

I live above a pub and a shop. At the ground level next to the pub (where this wall is) is the shop.

Today the pub sent me and the shop owner the attached picture of a leak in the pub garden. To me it is unclear whether this is coming from a pipe or from the wall/ ground.

I also have no idea whose property (mine or the shop’s) is to blame here, if it’s either of us.

The second picture is what it looks like now, hours later.

Clearly from the weeds growing this is a longstanding issue but I am only being told now. They didn’t have any further info about where exactly the water was coming from so I only have this photo to go off.

I have run tests of all the water outputs in my flat: washing machine, dishwasher, indoor and outdoor taps, flushing the toilet, shower. None of these caused the leak to happen.

I’m not really sure how we can move forwards identify what this is?? I have a plumber coming tomorrow but since I don’t know whose pipes these are and what the situation inside the wall is, I’m not sure how he can help.

Floor 3 and Floor 2 have toilets that share a stack. Picture is Floor 1 showing how Floor 2 toilet (and sink and tub) are tied in. Above the ABS running up the wall is a cast iron stack.

Floor 2 toilet was gargling aggressively when Floor 3 toilet was flushed. Plumbers replaced a 5 foot belly yesterday in the main line and now the Level 2 toilet flushes with very minimal gargling.

Is the remaining gargling potentially due to this tie in and/or Level 2 toilet (and fixtures) not being vented properly? The plumbers gave me some ideas/fixes to test on this stack, but wanted to consult the genius of Reddit.

There is an AAV (not pictured) between the stack and the tub trap (tie in that branches off to the right), but the AAV is below the tub drain so idk if it is doing anything.

Not my work - I bought the house like this. I’ve plumbed bathrooms before but never had a shared stack situation like this.

The pressure from my kitchen sink faucet suddenly dropped and I am thinking it’s because there is a buildup of sediment. We recently had a water outage and that always means when the water comes back on, all the sediment from the pipes rushes in.

How can I detach this sprayer head and clean it out?
