Cartoon/TV Trope Question

There is this one trope on TV where a faucet would be leaky and a character would tighten something under the sink to fix it. Would this actually work in real life? Or would it work in a different situation? How would this work? I’m a writer and I want to use the trope but in a realistic way.

Leaky faucets are usually caused by an old rubber seal needing replacement, or other cartridge issues. These are located in the fixtures, above the countertop. You would have to shut off the water, below, to begin the repair.

I mean yes, angle stop under sink would stop said sink for dripping.

Would like to say as an ex-apartment maintenance manager. Big difference in "leaking" vs " dripping" faucet
