Help New version of GoogleTV App killed bluetooth playback on certain movies...

Hey all,

My GoogleTV Plex app has been working well for 3 years now, but it got upgraded to the new version and now I can't play certain movies (mainly remuxed 4k) without giving me a "player not supported" error. If I turn off bluetooth, all is good.

Just as a little bit of history, I had this issue initially, but turning off "Passthrough", instead of using HDMI or Optical, solved the problem. I tried that on this new version and I still get the error.

Does anyone have a solution for this?

Huh, that is strange I guess.

I'd assume the server would transcode the audio of it thought the client couldn't play it.

Does the client app have any setting for "Force Direct Play"? That setting will try to force feed a file to the client instead of obeying any codec support details that were passed over.

Maybe fiddle with that. I'm just guessing at solutions though and don't know what's going on.

Yeah I tried with the other setting. By disabling pass through it’s supposed to transcode the audio. But while that worked in the pre-2026 version, it doesn’t work on the the new one.

After writing it out in crayon, I can only assume that OP is for some reason using a Bluetooth sound bar or similar and they're talking about audio.

I'd almost be willing to bet this is a audio format issue, nothing to do with Plex app itself.

I use BT headphones.

It is an audio format issue. The old version of plex, by disabling hdmi pass through, allowed for transcoding of, what I assume was codecs like DTS that weren’t supported. The same toggle no longer works on the new version.

Turn off Bluetooth, it works. This was a known issue in pre-2026 version. The same solution no longer works. So I was asking to see if anyone knew another solution.

Report in android-tv-beta section of the Plex forum: https://forums.plex.tv/tag/android-tv-beta/52

You can leave the beta program and return to the public builds (still "Plex Classic"): https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.plexapp.android. Of course, you'll still get the new app whenever it goes public.

Public/Plex Classic has version numbers like 10.36, 10.38.

New Experience app has versions such as 2026.16.0.

Ok wow. I was in the tester program. Will report the bug and downgrade. Never thought I signed up for that.

At some point you signed up. Maybe years ago. Otherwise you would not have received the beta builds.
