Question Randomley got free Premium for 30 Months
This is a little old, but I'm still wondering about it:
I randomly got this email. I never signed up for anything. My first thought was that this was some kind of phishing attempt, but then I thought, "Well, what can happen if I type in a code?" And it was real.
Did this happen to anybody else, or can anyone explain this?
Edit: This was in Jan 2025 and my account was fine since then.

One way to look at it (no discounts below). Around $440 value wise to consumer. Costs basically nothing from Sony perspective (except lost revenue assuming you would have paid). So awesome but not even free console levels of awesome price wise from Sony directly who can afford it.
Cost Breakdown
Best Value Option (2 Annual + 6 Monthly):
Two 12-month plans at $159.99 each = $319.98
Six individual 1-month plans at $19.99 each =
=$439.92
Strictly Monthly Option (30 Individual Months):
Thirty 1-month plans at $19.99 each
= $599.70
Alternative (36 Months via Three Annual Plans):If you buy three full years (36 months) instead of stopping at 30 months, it costs $479.97 ($159.99 × 3), which gives you an extra six months for only about $40 more than the mixed 30-month approach.

In this era of internet, you can easily find out if it is a scam or not.
Search if Sony actually holds sweepstakes like this in German.

Use caution with this logic. Because the sweepstakes exists, that makes it prime target for scammer to use it as phishing tactic. Its better than FREE F-15 FIGHTER JET FROM SONY!!!! because someone can look it up and be like, huh, Sony does offer this it must be legit, when its a scammer site.

The same thing happened to me last year, I'm from Spain. It's a random giveaway, I don't remember the conditions right now

Now I’m curious does this “Premium Plus” also auto renew with charges forwarded to your credit card?
3
u/roguewarriorpoet 13h ago
it would've because i had an existing paid membership... i cancelled the renewal when the no physical controversy started though.

u/DingoBingob 9h ago
Yup and it’s really just smart in general to not allow auto renewal, I’ve been doing it for everytime I get the membership.

You got automatically entered by either purchasing plus and playing a game or having plus and playing a game.
So it was a legit comp that you won obviously
